NPCs contradict what they say just a second ago. For instance, I'm doing the Unseeing Eye quest right now, and I am talking to Gaal:

I told him that I wasn't interrested in having my eyes removed.

"Gaal: Hmmmm. It is a sign of weakness to resfuse the enligntment. Would you walk about willingly with out arms, with out feet? I do not think so."

Well, would I walk about willingly with out eyes? I do not think so :D

In Unfinished Business, Minsc says something along the lines of:

"Minsc: You reek with a certain stink of something for not helping me find Boo. I will find Boo on my own and get my revenge on him when I return."

Then he leaves my party, and right away, he says:

"Minsc: You do not want Minsc and Boo to leave now, do you?
Me: No, get back in the group, or maybe it was, 'it was a mistake."

And Minsc came back into my group just like that :D .

Any more of these contradictions? They're kinda funny if you ask me.

Valygar's awfully quick to condemn magic, but when he's fatally wounded he has no problem asking for a healing spell.
"Healing aids", healing spell, whatever.

Minsc asking me to save Viconia and soon asa I did he tells me to "change my ways" or he will be forced to leave (seeing how Vic drops rep by 2)... Similarly Jaheira.

karlosovic 02-19-2004 08:00 AM

yeh.... save her... not consort with her

also the seeing eye thing is because when they remove their eyes, the beholder gives them some replacement power that lets them 'see clearly' or something... talk to the guy in the Liche room, he explains it a bit

the funniest one, although everyone knows it is nalia. "How are we helping the less fortunate, trudging around in here ?" while clearing her home of trolls

ZFR 02-19-2004 12:18 PM

OK how about this...

I give Tolgeiras Valygar's body which brings my rep down to 3. So soon as I go out a cowled enforcer sentences me to death for my committed crimes. I just did them a favor and they call it a crime.

karlosovic 02-29-2004 09:49 AM

How about Imoen's comment while in the Ust Natha: "I seem to have lost touch with the people of the city..."

I should think so !!! although, considering her current condition...

Pirengle 02-29-2004 07:14 PM

Along the same lines, it's odd to hear Aerie freak out in the Underdark, considering that would give the party away instantly if the drow paid attention.

Lord 02-29-2004 07:46 PM

In the Windspear Hills, one of the Hobgoblins said something about me getting destroyed or something while it was running away from low morale :D

What about completely redundant dialogue? Like when Bodhi introduces herself twice...
"Greetings, I am Bodhi [...] but first, I shall introduce myself: I am Bodhi".

ZFR 03-01-2004 11:36 AM

What about reputation. Soon as it changes the NPCs talk accordingly to the new reputation, not to the change that brought it about.
So, many times if your reputaion is 20, you do something evil which brings it down to, say, 16 and all the good NPCs start talking on how good it is.

e.g. Nalia: "It's just as I thought it would be. Helping others and doing good things." After insulting her aunt.
Imoen "Now I remember why travelling with you was always so much fun" after changing to slayer.
Keldorn "[cant remember exactly what he says]" but it was funny when he said it after you killed the slave in that rune game in drow city.

How about Irenicus - he spends all that time trying to get you to realise your true potential and use your soul, but then his plan all along was to take it.

I can understand the experimentation in the dungeon - he's just finding out what the soul is capable of. But why all the dream sequences encouraging you to to make better use of your soul etc when he's just planning on taking the thing anyway?

When you're encouraged to use your power (Imoen does it in a dream, a fake Imoen though), it's after you've already lost your soul. Imoen tries to convince you to become to Slayer and use your power that way. The Slayer takes over you because you no longer have your soul to fight it off.

I believe shamrock means those dream sequences before you rescue Imoen i.e. while you still have your soul. And in at least two he definately encourages you to make full use of your god powers.

Yup, just started running through yet another game and it just occurred to me.

There's the one where he brings that woman to life and asks if life is enough for you. If you turn down the power he's trying to show you because of the consequences, he says "you *will* accept the gifts offered to you"

Also the one where he tries to get you to embrace what you are and rise above being mortal - "even creatures mysterious and magical will fall etc"

karlosovic 03-06-2004 07:29 AM

I dont think those are really Irenicus. I think its the taint and your mind puts his face on it.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 03-06-2004 06:18 PM

I was thinking along those lines, Karl. That's why the person doing the tempting can 'switch'... I won't delve into a discussion of the mind and dreams for a computer game... without being asked... but suffice to say that dreams are full of symbols, and the mind will attach faces to things that aren't always what they are in the waking world.
