So i'm in the underdark, running around killing stuff and acting drow-like, when edwin starts insulting minsc, like usual, only this time, he goes too far and minsc attacks him. I knew they didn't get along, but now I have to lose one? talk about frustrating, this is just about the worst timing possible. So, anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Edwin is my only mage, so I NEED him. I have korgan, so minsc isn't extremely important. But is there anyway to delay their confrontation or something until i get out of the underdark and can get a replacement tank for minsc?? Any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated.

Pirengle 11-15-2003 01:19 PM

Who else do you have in your party?

If Edwin's your only mage, I suggest reloading from a save and kicking Minsc out of the party. You can do this from the character screen by clicking the "party formation" button. Tell him to wait at the Copper Coronet. You'll lose Minsc, but you'll keep Edwin.

Kazilan 11-15-2003 01:40 PM

My party consists of:
Me- Thief
Viconia
Mazzy
Edwin
Korgan
Minsc
(I leave everyone as the class they start with)

I've really been enjoying the tanking ability of this party, but am willing to give up minsc if i have to in order to retain edwin. I just prefer having six people, for the character interaction as well as the damage dealing - im going to miss what minsc's capable of, especially in the underdark.

You can lose Minsc, Korgan is a better fighter than Minsc is. However, remember to take all of Minsc's equipment off and give it to you before you kick him out ;)

You should find a decent replacement for your party in a new drow you may have already met. ;)

the aerie korgan argument can be averted by editing

korganaeriegrump=0...

i think that a similar global affects minsc and edwin...

i used to know the var for keldorn and viccy, but forgot...

so i'm pretty sure shadowkeeper can help you figure it out and edit it for ya...

vesselle 11-15-2003 10:16 PM

waitaminnit!! doesn't mazzy get uptight, too? i seem to remember having her and korgan getting into each other faces so much so that i had to let one or the other go.

:(

V***V

Nah. Korgan actually tries to flirt with Mazzy!

Nerull 11-15-2003 11:49 PM

Did you try just reloading from the last save? From what I've seen, the banter that causes them to finally go hostile occurs randomly. Thus, if you reload you should be able to delay the arguement (you're bound to get it sooner or later, though). Lose Minsc, especially if you have ToB. Give Mazzy a strength belt and she'll kick butt on the front line backing up Korgan. Just remember what Lord told you about getting your stuff before Minsc leaves. That would suck being stuck in Chapter 5 without a bunch of your stuff!

Mods? I was talking about Solaufen (sp?). Isn't he available without mods? I don't use any, and he offered to join my party. (shrugs) i dunno, now.

masteraleph 11-16-2003 11:09 AM

Dron_Cah-

He will not offer to join your party without mods. He may say something wistful about joining, and you will get a dialog option to get him in, but he will refuse unless you have the mod.

Dron_Cah 11-16-2003 12:20 PM

oh, ok, i get it. it's confusing as hell, but i get it. sounds kind of like what i've heard about some of the romances. :D

later!

Kazilan 11-16-2003 01:54 PM

ok, thanks for the replies - I've been reloading every time they start to fight, and its working so far... I guess ill get rid of minsc once im done in the underdark. Should I use the sola mod and pick that guy up? does he work as a tank? I would take valygar, but, um, I sort of killed him already. I did say my party was evil.

And korgan does flirt with mazzy, its pretty entertaining.

If you are playing with ToB, don't replace him with anyone. Just use Mazzy to back up Korgan. I don't really want to spoil, so I'm not going to tell you why. However, if you insist on a 6 person party, add someone like Jaheira or Anomen. They are not thrilled by evil parties, but unless you let your reputation drop too low, you shouldn't have a problem with them (Anomen might become a problem later, depending on the path you take on his quest).

He is a multiclass fighter/mage - so yes, he is a good tank. ;)
Stoneskin alone - do you want to be hit for xx damage or for 0 damage ?

what mod? =]

Edit: by the way... what is the best mod? I've had darkest day but I think it's kinda lame... all the new places are old maps from bg1, and it is full of bugs... they have created some really overpowered kits as well...
Why, the Solaufien mod of course. It's one of the better NPC mods (along with Valen, Kelsey, and Tashia). He does eventually get some overpowered items, but they're balanced out a bit by extremely tough fights (in typical weimer fashion). Valen also gets wayyyy overpowered.

Dundee Slaytern 11-17-2003 08:49 AM

*cough* *cough*

Of course, by overpowered items, we really mean "OMG-What-Can-Possibly-Justify-This-MUNCHKIN-POWERGAMING-OVERKILL-OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD item?!?!".

Weimer has naturally replied to our aghastment (me and SixOfSpades), but personally, he has failed to convince me about the fairness/logic/sense of the item.

Then there is the matter where Weimer did not choose to follow the statistics of the in-game Solaufein, but chose to give him what I can only describe as "player rolled stats".

The only redeeming aspect I can say of the Sola Mod is the romance part, but for the combat part, it becomes a total mockery.

Finally, I would like to emphasise that this is MY opinion. Feel free to decide on your own.

Link 11-17-2003 08:59 AM

Item? Is this purely about the Solaufein Mod, or something more? I skimmed through the replies, but failed to find 'an item'...

Dundee Slaytern 11-17-2003 09:20 AM

It is about the Sola Mod. I just chose not to mention what the item's name is.

SixOfSpades 11-17-2003 02:36 PM

Out of curiosity, who would you say is more overpowered: Solaufein, with his combining the #2 most powerful class in the game, 90% MR, and the Godstick of Smiting.....or Valen, the level-draining Fighter/Assassin with permanent Draw Upon Holy Might?

I would say Solaufein. At least with Valen she will be blighted by traveling in the daytime (yes, you can just rest until nighttime, but that can be a royal pain sometimes). She also has relatively low HP, but killing her is very hard (she turns into mist while she regenerates above a certain level; this keeps her around but takes her out of action for a while). It is relatively easy to get her damaged until she turns into mist, and she is still vulnerable to magic in mist form (and can't move to get out of the way in that form, either). The level draining is very overbalancing, but she also "acts up" quite a bit, getting you in lots of trouble (can close off some quests, etc.).

Dundee Slaytern 11-18-2003 07:56 AM

Truth be told, I know nothing about the Valen Mod save details mentioned by the members here, so I cannot compare it fairly with the Solaufein Mod. However, I still have no intention of installing Valen, since well... the Mod does not interest me.

SixOfSpades 11-18-2003 08:43 PM

Ditto, except that I have no interest in installing either of them.

Nerull 11-18-2003 10:37 PM

I installed Valen, mostly because I wanted to play an "all evil" party, and did not want to play a thief (I was playing a necromancer, just because that is what I wanted to play). If you let Korgan tank, and have her come around the side, fights will be over very, VERY quickly (she'll drain them down in a heartbeat). In effect, she has her own version of The Paw, which counts as a dagger (and she has 5 stars in dagger) and does energy drain. Unless the enemy is immune to level drain, she can put a real hurting on anything you run into (especially if she backstabs a caster of some sort). Overbalanced, but I didn't want to play multiplayer and create my own thief, and there's not really too many other alternatives out there if I want an all-evil party (I read some threads, Six, where you were using Montaron. Did you start a multiplayer game and just create a character named Montaron, or have you cooked something up in this area?).

Sola I have never tried, but I have heard plenty of stories about how overbalanced he is. At least with Valen, she gets zapped during the day outside and she'll do things on her own that will get your party into trouble (she also closes off some quests for you, just by her being in your party).
