ok..i had yoshimo in my party and went to the asylem place..(first time i've kept yoshi) and i was wondering if theres any way not to loose yoshimo? as quite frankly imoen is the suckiest character int he game, a pathetic mage and a bad theif....

if there isn't, are there any adversly bad effects of cheating him back into your group?

RoSs_bg2_rox 10-19-2003 10:50 AM

there is absolutely no reason why you have to take imoen, except for maybe roleplaying reasons. And as for cluaing (im presuming this is what you mean to do) Yoshimo back in, I dont think there is any adverse affects.

Tyrion 10-19-2003 12:48 PM

in multiplayer there is a bug that makes him join your party again (sometimes) but i guess you are playing sigleplayer...

Sonic 10-19-2003 12:52 PM

Hmm i think if he would play multiplayer he would cr8 his own thief and own characters(But maybi im wrong).

Sagramore 10-19-2003 01:18 PM

You could just petrify him before going into the asylum..... SPOILER

he still dies at the end (not 100% sure though...)

Sonic 10-19-2003 01:25 PM

Hehe i gotta test that to petrify him hehe.

Xzirox 10-20-2003 02:25 AM

sounds like a GREAT CHEESE IDEA :D

Dragonshadow 10-20-2003 10:49 AM

I just leave him in an inn and get him later.

Yoshimo: After patching and BaldurDashing your game, there is supposed to be no way to keep Yoshimo in your party beyond Spellhold. If you dropped him off someplace (such as the Copper Coronet), he will die as soon as you enter that specific map area. If you manage to run up and speak to him before he dies, he will still die, and also be kicked out of your party at the very same moment. I imagine that BaldurDash wrote in similar precautions for any possible Petrification/Imprisonment/Maze loopholes as well. Also, If Yoshimo is in your party, but *dead,* at the moment that Irenicus reveals himself, he will be dropped from the party at that point.

Imoen: A bad Thief? In some senses, yes. She can't set Traps worth beans, has no points at all in Detect Illusions, only a fool would try to Pickpocket with her 35% score, and she can't Stealth too well, either. But, looking at her strengths, you see that she's actually a decent Thief: 100% in Open Locks and 95% in Find/Disarm Traps is all you will ever need. Really. With a few good items (which you were likely going to get anyway), her Stealth skills can easily be brought up to par.
A bad Mage? That all depends on when you get her. If you miss your childhood friend and do everything humanly (or elvenly, or gnomishly....whatever) possible to rescue her as soon as possible, then Imoen will only be half a Mage level (or thereabouts) behind someone like Edwin or Nalia. If you happen to be toting around a Level 17 Nalia and a Level 13 Imoen, well, Guess Ya Should Have Rescued Her Sooner, Ya Heartless Bastard!

Jan: Don't like Imoen as a Thief? Take Jan. If you want it done, he can do it. (Provided it doesn't involve Necromancy, of course.)

Bruce The Aussie 10-21-2003 01:22 PM

well about party level....edwin is about 18, my mage/cleric is about 13/13 viccy is about 17-18 yoshie baby was about pfth..dunno 19?20? asomehwere about there.

its just i find imoen obnoxios.....always complaining...not as bad as anomen (who i usually blow up with a fireball or something so i can on no accounts EVER get him)

and besides, i'd spent a REALLY long time getting yoshi's skills up and he had nearly 100 in all the useful ones.. (pick pocketing, hiding, setting traps etc.)....

If you are a hardcore Role-Player, why would you want to take Yoshimo back? He's a traitor!

Userunfriendly 10-23-2003 03:47 AM

jan is best thief in game...if you can stomach turnip stories...

imoen can absolutely take care of all the thief stuff you need in the game...and no turnip stories..

Faceman 10-23-2003 05:36 AM

Jan is the only thief in the game who can level up AND you get to keep.
Imoen can take care of the stuff you absolutely need a thief for (traps, locks).
If you really want a good thief you'd have to play a thief PC or cheat in Artemis Entreri.

Simply because he was forced to be one through a Geas. It is far easier to conceive that the PC will forgive Yoshimo were he/she of good alignment.

Bruce The Aussie 10-23-2003 03:57 PM

well my PC is chaotic neutral and i'm semi roleplaying....sometimes evil sometimes good...wherever my mood takes me

also THANK U! i'd forgot about jan....i might pick him up...then i'd still get to have a nearly all spellcaster party (only tank is minsc, and thats jsut becuse i'd miss him too much to let him go)

i'm gonna have to decide between jan and yoshi...but thanx for all yoru help....

Of course, you could use a Valygar/Imoen combo. Covers both locks/traps and backstabbing. You still miss trap setting and detect illusions, but still hit both big areas.
