What do you recommend? I know that K->T is a monster and I know how good it is. But what about A->F? I`ve heard they`re very good.
Wich would you recommend?

Pyrenk 08-22-2003 01:41 PM

Assassin->Fighter, for the immense backstabs You can also use armor, bracers, etc. in the beginning of the game, rather than level 21(??), and you get a nifty poison ability that goes through Stoneskin

Xen 08-22-2003 01:47 PM

Yes, that is correct. Also I can get all those niffty profisencies. Celestial Fury +5.

Pyrenk 08-22-2003 01:53 PM

Heh. You're supposed to put up more of a fight, Xen. If that's all it took to make you decide, did you really need to ask the question? :D

Xen 08-22-2003 02:00 PM

No. I want to know advanteges and disatventeges of both.
Experts?

Adv. of K/T:
1. Higher offensive power, especially when you obtain UAI.
2. More thief HLA's.

Dis. of K/T:
1. You're stuck without armor/bracers/helm (is that it?) for a large part of the game, less if you're soloing. However, it's worse if you're soloing.
2. Very munchkin (with UAI).
3. Not unique; sort of cheesy.

Adv. of A/F:
1. Incredible backstab multiplier
2. More proficiencies
3. All of the good Fighter HLA's (GWW, anyone?)
4. Poison goes through Stoneskin
5. Can use armor at all times.
6. If you want, a trap or two from the Thief HLA's.

Dis. of A/F
1. If soloing, it will take you a long time to regain your levels, and it's dangerous...if with party, it will take longer, but at a lower risk.

Not many disadvantages, though

Why was that low? :1pondering:

Hmm. I can`t decide... yet. Hmm if I consider it,I might just play F/T. And i have both HLA`s. But i already played one so I was thinkhing about something fresh.

Pyrenk 08-22-2003 02:15 PM

How about a Thief/Mage? Or, if you want, get Open Locks and Find Traps to 100, and dual to a Mage. You can backstab with Mislead, too :D

If you've already played a F/T, I don't see how you could have fun with a slight variation on the idea. Basically, same skills, more power.

P.S. "That was low" = "That was mean".

Very interesting idea. Backstabbing galore. I like it. I still have some things to consider about it.

Anything I can help with?

Yes,you may help me. :D Should i make a new party or continuoe with my current party. The agony of choice.

Pyrenk 08-22-2003 02:24 PM

Well, it depends. First of all, who is in your party?\

Personally, I don't like parties. I hate when I'm walking somewhere, and 1 person becomes lost 5 miles behind, making me wait for him. I also dislike having to make sure that nobody dies, and reviving the dead person upon...well...death. This is especially bad with chunking/freezing, as you can't revive them. Then, Imprisonment and petrification require counter spells that you may not have. Also, if your PC has the Boots of Speed, and is moving across the map, you have to wait hours for your party to catch up and lead the stupid ones around if they get stuck.

You also get more money this way, but it's not much use late in the game. A Mage can always buy scrolls, however ;)

As you can see, I like soloing

ADD-Try saying "Xen Pyrenk" 10 times, fast :D

Wich party are you reffereing too Pyrenk?

About soloing:I like it. I soloed many games, but i was bored so I decided for parties again.

In that case, I'd take along one or two characters...easier to manage, especially if they are spell-casters You also get interesting interaction.

But, yeah, soloing does get boring after some time ;)

ADD-This is almost like having a chat room...replies within ~5 min of the previous post :D

ADD2-You just had to contradict me, didn't you?

Assassin 08-22-2003 03:21 PM

An Assassin -> Fighter isn't cheesy? If you jack up the levels for the Assassin enough for the 7 x backstab (which I think you'll be doing), as well as for a certain HLA for the Assassin, it could easily be also called 'cheesy'. True, it's more unique than a Kensai -> Thief, but it'll still have plenty of combat power (actually, probably more, seeing as you can't get Fighter HLA's as a Kensai/Thief)

If you insist on using a small party, then try out taking along Tashia/Kelsey and Aerie. A Sorcerer and a Mage/Cleric become very useful, as well as having two Mages.

ADD] Actually, if you jack up the Kensai levels enough for the Fighter HLA's, then it will be quite worth it as well. However, aside from the Traps, there really aren't all that many good Thief HLAs that can be taken more than once. The Fighter's GWW/Hardiness/CS are all abilities that, the more you have, the better they are.

An A->F is not cheesy, it is munchkin. Cheesy is abusing a limitation in the game's engine.

I think he what he meant was, that he was answering your questions, and then you ask for the "experts" opinion, thus making Pyrenk a "non-expert".

nothing serious, if i understood correctly...

Xen 08-22-2003 03:46 PM

Hmm. Well sorry. I didn`t want to look Pyrenk as non-expert. I just wanted to hear people who played both sides. So sorry Pyrenk if i insulted you.

True_Moose 08-23-2003 11:29 PM

My personal opinion is the Assassin=>Fighter. You can get the best HLAs as an Assassin, then dual over to a fighter. There really isn't much difference, except that most Assassin=>Fighter builds dual a lot later on. I personally like the A=>F better.

Raistlin Majere 08-24-2003 05:07 AM

Im playing a Fighter/Assassin multi-class right now. yes, it required a bit of tweaking and might be considered cheating. i really couldnt care less, cause its fun to play ;)
