First off I know there has been alot of this type of thread lately so if it's boring anyone I'm sorry... Anyway I'm looking for suggestions as to what class I should play now as I'm ready to play BG2 again after a break. I'm looking to play a character that I haven't played before so this is the classes I have played -
Sorcerer Beserker (X2)(one evil one good) Undead Hunter Illusionist Archer Please suggest a class you think will be fun and remember I'm not looking for necessarily the most powerful but one that will be FUN! At the minute I'm slightly leaning towards a spellcasting type character but I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks! |
my suggestions is not to play a character that are similiar to the npcs.and if u want to have fun, try to use a unique one,for example: monks, or assassins.those 2 are fun characters for me.
edit:also try a kensai or kensai/mage [ 08-19-2003, 12:05 PM: Message edited by: BaRoN NiGhT ] |
I suggest soloing SoA and ToB with Tactics and Ascension on Insane with C/R.
It`s doable! Ask Leslie! |

Since you want a fun, spell-casting character, try a Blade. It fits, doesn't it? You can also use any weapon that you want, along with *** in Dual Weild...another plus |

The offensive spin is my favorite class ability, and later in the game you can get the UAI ability, and the improved bard song, which makes up for the lame bard song. They are good as front line fighters if you use their magic as part of your defense. I don't teach a blade offensive magic like fireball, I teach him armor, shield, haste, imp. invisibility, etc. Defensive spin is good too on certain occasions. Just give them good con and dex and you'll be fine. If you can get good strength too, that would be great, since when in offensive spin you do maximum damage. Also, in offensive spin, you move very quickly, so you can often attack a mage before they get their spells off. |
Hint: A Blade can move during Defensive Spin if he has Free Action...equip the Ring of Free Action, run away, cast a spell, run away...even if the enemy does catch up to you (unlikely) they will have trouble getting through your AC, let alone the protections

Pyrenk: I wasn't suggesting that your threads or threads like this are boring I was just aware of the fact that there has been alot of this type of thread lately. There's no need to apoligise. I share your pain ;) I just can't decide what class to play! There's so many choices!
Anyway thanks for the suggestions everyone, yes a blade sounds interesting although rolling stats would be a pain because you'll need pretty high stats across the board... Hmmm maybe a fighter/mage would be good? I'll have to have a think. Xen:Thanks for the suggestion although the tactics mod isn't an option as I have a very slow internet connection so it would take an age to download it. Baron Night: Yeah it would be a good idea to use a class I've never experienced with one of the NPC's. Kensai/Mage is definetly an option. I don't really like thieves but a monk is another interesting option. *Sigh* So many options! Keep the suggestions coming! |
So many options is right. I wish that I could narrow it down...I'm playing a Fighter/Mage now until I come up with something more interesting. I just love Flesh-Stoning NPC's in my strongholds :D
You can try a Cleric/Mage. Since you wanted spellcasting, this should be the perfect class for you Almost all spells, and you get to create combinations with your triggers and contingencies. |
Why don't you try a priest? I love playing clerics, and druids are an interesting class.
|
Fighter->Druids are great...Grandmaster spear, and use the Impaler/Ixil's Nail. Iron Skins, Fire Elementals, the swarm spells, Greater Elementals, Greater Whirlwind, great melee, and more-great character to play.
|
Fighter/mage/cleric is also great, there are hardly any situations you can't handle, you get some great and unique contingencies, and with all the buffing spells and the fighter HLA's you can really tank.
|
Any multiclassed character is fun, and a possible cannon in battle. So you might wanna try those.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
A thief/mage would be good and yeah a cleric sounds interesting I was thinking about it over night and a cleric is actually one of the classes I was thinking about. Another is the stalker I know it's not a spellcasting character which I was leaning towards but I am tempted to play one. Besides stalkers can cast priest spells and can get a few mage spells. Has anyone played a stalker is it perhaps to similar to the archer? Or should I go with it? Thanks! [ 08-20-2003, 09:46 AM: Message edited by: Zarr ] |
I've soloed a Stalker before, but it is not similar to an Archer. An Archer specializes in sniping his victims off before they reach him; a Stalker has to get near them for backstabs. The Stalker does get some decent spells later on, and has access to most of the other benefits that a Ranger possesses. (So many s')

Although I've never played one myself, the Swashbuckler also looks like a fun class. He doesn't get the Backstab multiplyer of other Thief kits, but this is balanced out by improving his melee skill. A Swashbuckler is the strongest thief kit when it comes to a front line fighter.
Just another suggestion to add to the list. |
Front line fighter? I must disagree. When you`re playing on Insane,Tactics and Ascension when each hit does 20-30 dmg on Critical 60-80 you can belive me that he will get hit no matter the AC. Especially in ToB.

And if you're playing solo, then your character is a front-line fighter. ;) |
Not if you're a Mage/Sorcerer...although you can be, it's not viable.
|
I've decided I'm going to play a stalker and then a cleric of Lathander after that. Thanks for the help choosing my character.
