Yes, my little "problem" is back. I'm getting bored again I need an interesting character idea; something that isn't used often, but is fun to play (doesn't have to be powerful, as long as it can solo the game). This character will start in BGI, however (higher rolls, and better for rp). I want something like a Kensai specializing in throwing daggers or darts (I know, it's very powerful...that's just the kind of idea I want. I prefer finesse to power).
I'd like an idea that includes a class capable of using Flesh to Stone, however. I love decorating Amn :D It isn't necessary, just prefered. [ 08-19-2003, 10:18 AM: Message edited by: Pyrenk ] |
Then make a Kensai and Dual Class him into a Mage at level 15 in SoA. You will be a good range attacker with Darts/Daggers and you can still turn a human into a statue. :D I am so evil...
|
It is a Kensai/Mage! What are you thinking?! I prefer finesse to power, not the other way around!
ADD-That avatar looks great All the good ones have a high post requirement :( [ 08-18-2003, 03:47 PM: Message edited by: Pyrenk ] |

Aww, poor Xen. Will you ever forgive me?
No problem, I just wanted something a little bit more...unusual. |

That doesn't help me, though.

If you want finesse, the only option is some combination of proficencies/items/classes involving the Assassin kit.
|
I once created a PnP dwarven fighter named Dirk that was specialized in the dagger. He was a lot of fun to play.
A straight dwarven fighter with Grand Mastery in dagger is something you don't see everyday. You could do ranged attacks or melee', depending on the dagger(s) you chose...and your dwarven Constitution (along with the fighter hp's) would enable you to withstand a lot of damage. But that might be more power and less finesse. If it's style and finesse you crave, how about a halfling thief (LE) for BG1. Then convert him to an assassin for BG2. It would make good roleplaying sense for him to specialize in the dagger (or dart), and when he gets his first HLA, you take the ever-popular Use Any Item and purchase some scrolls of Flesh to Stone. Or - better yet - have someone craft a Wand of Medusa for you that does the Flesh to Stone without the scrolls. |
That wand would be great. Instant Feng Shui. Who could make it, though?
The Assassin would be nice. I love the class, and I like daggers, as well. Which would be better, dual weilding short swords and daggers, or single-daggers? I don't want a halfling, though. Humans looks so much better in Shadow scale :D How hard would soloing an Assassin be, through ToB, on Core? Tactics mod installed. |
Hard but not impossible. SoA is easy, even on Insane. Now ToB and Ascension is another thing.

Heh, M. will be a pain in the _ _ _. Hangman!
If only I could backstab dragons...Grr. |

Yes, but you can use a certain cloak against them, can you not? :D
|
That cloak still doesn't prevent Imprisonment, bah

I'm currently playing an assassin in BG2. I had planned to have him dual-wield Celestial Fury and Sanchodooku(sp?), but I found that I liked the Stiletto of Demarchess (from the Planar Air Prison) and it's ability to HOLD a target very much. Also, Torgal's Claw (from Tactics Mod) is very nice. It won't prevent attacks from your opponent, but it can weaken them to the point that they can't follow you..so you back out of melee and fill them full of arrows.
So - even though I had a couple of nice short swords - I ended up dualing these daggers more than my swords. And if you're still wanting to be unique, how about an elven assassin? |
I know...sigh. I want a challenge, though
Damn floating sacks. They remind me of manatees. I hate manatees. |
Hm, that might work Do Elven Assassins look good in Shadow scale? I don't really like the frail image, but Shadow scale makes almost everyone look better :D
|
If you want style pick Jan`s Armor once you get UAI.
Note:Dryclean only. :D |
And it's effective armor, to boot
I prefer the Shadow scale, however. New question. Dual weild daggers, or use single weapon? Scoring more critical hits is always nice, especially on backstabs, and IIRC, there is a THAC0 bonus, as well. Second-what would be a good roll? I usually get a ~98 in under 10 minutes, so I can roll while watching t.v. (darn commercials). [ 08-18-2003, 05:17 PM: Message edited by: Pyrenk ] |
In the spirit of Artemis Entreri, I would love to suggest dual wielding...but Thieves can't put 3 points in dual wielding, or enough points in the weapon of choice to nullify the offhand penalties incurred by less than 3pts dual wielding. On the plus side, with dual wield you could have Neb's Nasty Cutter or Pixie Prick and Demarchess, a devilish combination.
If you are feeling pragmatic since you are soloing, I would say single weapon, long swords. If you are feeling positively RPish, I would say dual wield some kind of sword with dagger. |
Dual-wielded daggers it is. :D I must roleplay!
Would dual wielding the SSoM and the DotS be viable, though? Somebody (Moosey?) mentioned that I wouldn't have a decent ApR with them...I think. [ 08-18-2003, 05:37 PM: Message edited by: Pyrenk ] |
I'm thinking of switching to a Mage/Thief. Nice spells, Mislead, buffs...sweet
|
If you are going to dual-wield a thief and don't feel that thieves should be limited to only two stars in two-weapon fighting, download the rogue re-balancing mod. I'm using it with my assassin with no problems so far.
I guess if all you wanted were two-weapon fighting, though, you could assign 3 stars through SK and not even bother with the mod? ADD] OFF TOPIC -- Hey, I leveled up! Yeeeaahhhhh! That guy's much better than a simple Dungeon Master! [ 08-18-2003, 05:55 PM: Message edited by: Borg ] |
What does the mod change, and where can I obtain it?
|
Damn game. I want to be a Fighter, Druid, Priest of Talos, Assassin, and Mage at the same time. ARGH!
|
You can find many good mods on Weimer's site: http://weidu.org/weidumods.html (sorry, don't know how to do linked text yet). Specific to the Rogue ReBalancing mod, go here: http://www.gamesector.co.yu/avenger/ It has a good description, so I won't list it all here unless needed.
|
Can you be an Assassin --> Druid? That would be a wierd one. You grew up in Candlekeep being taught the fine art of dispatching your enemy in one motion. One day you left the comforts of the keep on a mission in the deep forest. You returned more in tune with nature and it's ravaging forces than you could have ever imagined... (or something like that).
|
Druids can only dual to a fighter IIRC and you need very good stats to do so.
|
They aren't hard to get, though. Especially with BGI :D
|
Alternatively to going via Rogue Rebalancing (although there's certainly nothing wrong with it), you might consider being a Fighter for your first 2 levels. The hp and THAC0 benefits would be negligible, but it would allow you to put your weapon starts anywhere you wanted, and also open up those nifty Warrior-only Potions.
