Theives are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have so many advantages. When i started a new game my theif did 44 damage with a backstab! with a good theif you dont need to worry about paying for items at shops because you steal them. Pickpocketing.I think Assassins are the best kit class.

from apollo

JrKASperov 08-07-2003 07:27 AM

My assassin did 266 damage lastly ;)

Xen 08-07-2003 08:23 AM

They`re not the best. There are many much better classes. Take a Sorcerer for example.

no, elvin archers. a fighter afar. with low leval priest spells.
lots of health and cool arrows.
so SHIZZAM i win

Pyrenk 08-07-2003 09:01 AM

You had to start that again...As SixOfSpades likes to say, the best class is the one you enjoy the most Btw, iirc, a Kensai/Thief can do ~360 with ToB ITEM SPOILER

the Staff of the Ram (backstabbing).

The highest achievable legal backstab in SoA-ToB is 532 damage. You will need a ToB NPC and a ToB item though.

ADD] The highest a Kensai->Thief can backstab is 408 damage.

An Assassin->Fighter however, trashes the K->T with 462 damage.

Dundee...you meant S. using Backstab with his D.A.? lol

I'm going to use an Assassin/Fighter in my next game. I have a new-found love for crossbows, so the Poison Weapon skill should come in very handy...especially with Bolts of Biting :-D

a little off topic - (although its a fairly rambly topic so far - for some reasone that simple sentence - gave me a really nice character idea - a sort of gentleman thief kind of assassin - a bit like the assassins in the diskworld books maybe . . . very concerned with appearance and the company he keeps . . . a little dismissive . . . i see the blade of roses . . . i see being embarassed by minsc and disgusted by dwarves . . .

thanks for that

Pyrenk 08-07-2003 01:31 PM

Um, glad to be of service?

Yeh but have any of u actually done 532 damage or even know of anyone who has? that could kill anything in the game right? Im pretty sure anyway. But what is the biggest amount of hitpoints that any creature has?

Dundee Slaytern 08-08-2003 07:30 AM

All numbers are supplied by Jim, courtesy of his testing for the most damaging single attack in the entire SoA-ToB game. ;)

shadowhound 08-08-2003 08:03 AM

This Jim fellow obviously has too much time on his hands

People should be glad and thankful that individuals like Jim, Alson and SixOfSpades, to name a few, are willing to go through all the trouble of finding out everything about the game and recording it down for the benefit of other gamers. ;)

It is mostly a thankless task, and they solely do it not because of profits or fame, but because they genuinely love the game, and that people, is all the more reason we should cheer for them.

is jim actually on ironworks? I know Alson is and Six.

Pyrenk 08-08-2003 12:04 PM

Yes. IIRC, his avatar is Red Wizard of Thay. He is the God of Numbers :D

Jim doesn't post all that often that's probably why you haven't encountered him but he is it's safe to say he's one of the most valued members on the BG2 board. His posts I find very interesting and informative although some of the more number heavy ones hurt my brain :D
