Hi. I posted about using the subraces mod, but the thread kinda died out before i got an answer... so does anyone know how to use it? i installed it, but i can't find the subraces when i'm making my character.

someone had something about talking to a dwarf in the game, but they didn't say where to find him...

Did you read the readme?

Ixtab 08-02-2003 08:33 PM

um, yeah. i'm not a total idiot.

Ixtab 08-02-2003 08:35 PM

it told me how to install it, which i did, but not how to USE it.

True_Moose 08-02-2003 09:05 PM

Make the character, choose the base race and go into the game. Someone will talk to you, and it will all make sense. ;)

Thank you. do i have to start a new game? and do i have to find the person, or will they find me?

True_Moose 08-02-2003 09:33 PM

It will find you. And you shouldn't have to start a new game. Just wander around, and it will find you, at least it did for me.

grr... i musn't have it installed correctly then... i did get this error:

ERROR: Sys_error("dialog.tlk: Permission denied")

any ideas on how to fix that?

True_Moose 08-02-2003 09:38 PM

Hmm. No, but what other mods/changes do you have installed? If you have a heavily modified dialogue.tlk file, that may be it, or if you haven't run it in the main directory. I'm not really a mod guy though.

Ixtab 08-02-2003 09:47 PM

no, i haven't heavily modified it... i always get that error, too, whenvever i try to install a mod. and i always do it from the main dir.

perhaps i am doomed. DOOMED, I say!!

I didn't say you were. The readme should've had that kind of information, that's why I asked. Since it didn't, it's not your fault. ;)

I'm not sure if it would make a difference, but make sure the file (i.e. dialog.tlk)isn't checked as Read-Only.

Also, make sure you aren't running the game while you are trying to install the mod.

When you unzip the file, try running setup inside the folder-it should give you the option to extract some files. Do it, and check the box that says something along the lines of "Show extracted files". When it shows you the files (should be in a seperate folder), copy them and paste them in your Black Isle/BGII-SoA folder. Then run setup from there. If you need anything cleared up, ask.
