hi im planning to buy a new game and ive narrowed down the choices to Icewind Dale 2 or Black Isle's upcoming release Lionheart.... could somebody compare Baldur's gate 2 with Icwind Dale 2 ?? so i have an idea of how much fun the game is.... (baldur's gate 2 is considered REALLY fun)

*points this to IWD II forum, but that place is usually dead* :D

Xen - I think jinny wants it here to get BG2 gamer's opinions on what game to get, so this is a fine place to post it.
I bought IWD2 about 8 months ago and played it once or twice. The beginning seemed very boring...walk here, walk there, talk to person A, talk to person B. After that I couldn't get into it. So I dediced to just stick with BG. From what I've heard you're not going to get anything as good as BG, so don't expect to. There's my two cents. |
SpongeBobTheDestroyer-OK. Good point thanks.

I throughly enjoyed (and still do) IWDII. I much prefer the 3rd edition rules, and using feats and skill points means that you can tailor your character to suit your playing style perfectly. The combat system rocks, and the added value of Heart of Fury mode (meaning tougher monsters, more XP, and much more powerful versions of the weapons found in normal mode) means that the game has a high replay value. It is linear however (much like the first one was), but if you fancy a game with intense combat and mindless looting, then IWDII is your game.
As usual, the infinity engine grinds to a halt when things get busy on the battlefield, but the artwork is excellent, and the musical score is absolutely fantastic. This game has my recommendation. |

on a scale of 1-10, in terms of story/plot where is iwd2 at ? (baldur's gate 2 being a 10)
|
It has a plot, but its completely linear, and the emphasis is on the combat rather that the roleplaying. If your faveorite part of BG2 is the fights, go for IWD2. If you like the conversations and such better, try Planescape:Torment.
|
what do u mean by "completely linear"?
|
He probably means that is absolutely clear what is happening and there aren`t many sidequests.

I heard from my cuz who played IWDII that it is the battles would be heaps tougher as they are based on your current xp pts and level of your character...
so the monsters that appear relative to your xp. Thats all I can tell you :/ |
Personally i would go for Lionheart. I heard its a cross between diablo and baldurs gate.

So basiclly another hack`n`slash. Hehe BG II is older but better.
I think they screwed up IWD II and NWN. NWN is saved by MODders and Multi-Player,IWD II is saved by |

I'll make it simple.
Character interaction, interesting quests, dialogue: BGII. Hack 'n' slash, being a servant: IWDII. Happy? |
