After charging after these things and battling them with melee' weapons (and suffering the effects of the noxious Cloud for my efforts), I found an exceptionally easy way to kill them.
Just purchase the Reflection Shield from Diedra in the Adventurer's Mart (bonus merchant CD or download). I was fighting the first Adamantium Golem in the Planar Sphere and getting beaten up badly because I didn't have many weapons that would even hit it. Then I remembered this shield I had purchased and given to Jaheira. So I did a quick re-load and sent Jaheira ahead of the party to face the golem by herself. As soon as it saw her, it started throwing boulders (since it was too big to fit through the doorway to advance any closer). Jaheira didn't have to do a thing but stand there as the boulders were Reflected by the Shield back at the golem (doing anywhere from 2-4 hit points per hit). Naturally, it took quite a while to kill the golem this way, but Jaheira was far enough away to avoid it's Cloud attack and the rest of the party just sat back and watched as the golem slowly - but surely - killed itself. I used this same strategy on the lower level of the Sphere. Jaheira killed every golem down there singlehandedly. Her Gauntlets of Ogre Power, Sling +2, and Bullets +2 made very short work of the Stone Golems (avg 14-15 hp per hit). Meanwhile, the Adamantium Golems took care of themselves once again. :D |
Hmm, I never knew that adamantite golems even through bolders! I just simply had Jaheira walk up to them and kick there A$$ with the rod of smiting. Either they save vs. death, or they're gone (adamantite golems seem to almost always save with death, but the rod is effective against them still). What's required to hit them...like, +4 and higher?

Go the reflection shield it is indeed a good help, but yeah you said the golem threw boulders?!?
I never knew that, neverhappened to me they just stood in the doorway, have you got like a mod or something installed that would change monsters attacks at all? ah i dunno what im talking about.... |
Golems only throw boulders with the Tactics mod installed.

So it was Jaheira and her Reflection Shield to the rescue. |
Ahh so thats it i was indeed confused haha so what types of mods are there? This shouldnt contain spoilers should it...nah

For most enemies, using the Reflection Shield like this would be an abuse of the game's poor AI. No creature in the game is scripted to recognize that its own attacks are being used against it (unless Weimer had written that little tidbit in for them), but since all Golems are supposed to be only slightly more intelligent than your average earthworm, it should be OK in this case.

im playing assasin now and indeed they kick these whatchamacaulit? GOLEMS arses. just hide in shadow... poison thy weapon ( i used a +2 sword) then voila!

I'll see Six's statement about AI-abuse and raise it with a piece of cheese ...

Cerek, isn't the Shield of Reflection just at the Adventurer's Mart, from Ribald? Or is that a different item?
|
Nope, you're quite right Attalus

Shield of Reflection is a contender to the title of Most Ridiculously Underpriced Item. Scroll of Protection from Magic is hot on it's heels though.

My usual tactic against these dumb creatures:
As stated earlier, Adamantium Golems cant pass through doorways or pass over bridges. I just stand far enough away that their cloud damage doesn't effect me and throw my best axe or hammer at 'em! (My personal choice is the Dwarven Thrower +3 hammer, I believe). I also makes quick work of the Stone Golems that are with them, which usually get stuck behind the Adamantium ones, yet you can single them out before taking out the big boy! |
Just out of curiosity, am I the only one whose computer calls them AdamantITE Golems? Or is this simply a community of people who were exposed to Wolverine before D&D?

It's definitely adamantite.

But who cares if we all know what we're talking about ...

Even easier way to beat (non-tactical) Adamantium golems:
Azure Edge - just stand back and throw |
