If I create a fighter then what would I need wisdom, intelligence, or charisma for?
|
Close to nothing.
Wisdom affects some dialogue options. Intelligence affects your Lore. Charisma affects how much discount you get at stores. Charisma is really the only one you should spend a few extra points on, as low prices can be quite useful. ;) |

Charisma affects the way people look at you and therefore some dialogue options and the prices in stores. However there are magical means (items and spells) in the game to improve char and you can still make a highly charismatic NPC your party leader. |
you can roll an infanite amount of times just go till u get good on all
|
Well you don`t need to worry ybout your Charisma becuase there is a certain Ring in he game wich sets it to 18. For Wisdom there are certain potions.
|
CHA modifies barterprices.
INT at 12(?)+ lets you use scrolls such as Greater Restoration. WIS does nothing for you: NO saving throw improvements, thats 3rdD&D. |
Alright so this is how I have my human fighter
Strength: 18 Dexterity: 18 Constitution: 18 Intelligence: 11 Wisdom: 8 Charisma: 16 I am actually going to play the first Baldur's Gate but I want my character to be made for Shadows of Amn for when I import to the second BG. Would those stats be good for a fighter? [ 06-22-2003, 05:35 PM: Message edited by: Intimadater ] |
Those stats seem fine. I'd maybe lower the charisma to 14 and pump up wisdom to 10. I don't like having any stat below 10 for roleplaying reasons but maybe that's just me .
|
Well I'm not the kind of the player that roleplays, I like every advantage I can possibly get.
|
If he's going to be playing through BG1, it makes sense to have a somewhat low WIS. I've got an Archer now that started out with a natural 18 WIS, and after *cough, cough*, I had an Archer with 17 DEX, 15 CON and 21 Wisdom running around Amn. He looked kinda lopsided.
|
I personally roll for a minimum of 93 stat points in BG 1 every time.
I like to roleplay the son of a God :D |

SPOILERS!!
Dont Look Or Get Spoiled! BG1 has a series of tomes that improve 1 stat 1 point permamently. For some reason, though the programmers put in 3 tomes of wisdom. therefore you can get 3 extra points in wisdom! That's what Six meant. Edit: If your only playing BG2, then it doesn't make a difference, but u mentioned playing BG1 and then importing. So depending on what your doing the relevance varies. ;) Later! You don't happen to know where they are do you?
|
Intelligence is good to be over 10 for another reason too: Illithids. With an int of 11 you can survive to of their brain-sucking hits, as with int of 10 you would be dead.
Yeah, yeah, I know there potions such as Potion of Genius in the game, but you might not have them at hand when you run into these son-of-a-bitches. :D |

Those stats are beyond fine... they're, in fact, wildly excessive.
Not that I do any differently, mind you, it's my cheese for not being able to engage in PnP-style subtleties... frankly, I agree with the other guy... what you've got now is kind of like a "show class" Great Dane... a physically perfect, beautiful physical specimen, without a thing between its ears to bother it... |
Personally, I feel those tomes are overpowered, especially when you use your BGI char to import into BGII. BGII has no permanent stat enhancers, so my guess is Bioware concurs on this. Getting +18 (19 when races come into play) on stats is just wicked.

I appease both my roleplaying and my powergaming sides with this system:
18(28) / 17 / 18 / 11 / 14 / 17. Kickass stats, sure, but I got them on a natural roll! :D [ 06-24-2003, 12:14 AM: Message edited by: SixOfSpades ] |
you actually dont have to max yer strength and charisma, since there are some items that increases those things.i made a kensai/mage with (after putting some cool things): 19/18/18/18/18/18 :D stats.

How much can you roll? I recently started a new archer and rolled a natural
18/90,17,18,16,16,15 If I´m counting correct it is even one hundred:) Is that a max you can have? Hope not cause after this it is difficult to settle with anything less than 35. And if it´s not the max I dare someone to roll better ones without osing - or + |
is it just me, or is it ALOT easier to roll high stats in bg1? all of my characters from bg1 have had stats over 92, and only after a few minutes of re-rolling! in bg2, i have to roll 10-20 minutes to reach something like 88 :( .
|
Actually, 108 is the highest stats you can have off a dice roll.
i.e. 18 (max) * 6 attributes Then we can add the tomes/moltm/domt/bhaal tears to increase stats to godlike proportions. |
