From the first time that Imoen opens her gob she really gets on my nerves..Matter of fact she was the original reason for my playing solo..It took a while for me to click about gaining all the xp's LOL. She just doesn't stop moaning and when she takes a breath it is to say something as inane as "smell those lovely books"...come on, no matter what she has to offer it is not worth it..Well this is just a little rave as cant see that anyone has discussed this before!!

Welcome to the board Master_Rahl! I can understand your frustration concerning Imoen, because after a while you *do* get a bit tense about her constant babbling (but there are worse characters in Baldur's Gate 2!!).. I can vividly dream about the day I didn't hear "Heya" when I clicked on her portrait.. It sounded like heaven, it did! :D

Dadams1 06-15-2003 05:55 PM

I agree, Imoen is very annoying. I wish there was a "Shut the hell up!" option in her dialogue... But even then she would just ignore you. She can't take a clue. If you tell her that you have no time to listen to her morbid fascinations, she'll say exactly the same thing as if you had pitied her. What a dumb NPC...

spydar 06-15-2003 11:48 PM

to give her some credit she is fairly mentally disturbed, but why can't she be the quiet kind of crazy who just sits in the corner twidling her thumbs?? and speaking of annoying I wanna smack Anomen up-side the head every time he opens his self-righteous holier-than-thou mouth. which is exactly why I'm trying to install Kelsey.

Master_Rahl:

I echo every word. I find most detestable trait is her penchant for stalking you. In BG1, she pops up right outside town with that annoying "Heya!" Then in BG2, no matter how mercilessly you gutted her in BG1, no matter how carefully you destroyed the corpse, no matter which plane of Hell received her black soul... she's back! It's inexplicable! Unnatural! VILE! The first mug you see after your daily torture is... HER! The Bratqueen of Candlekeep!

Well this is just a little rave as cant see that anyone has discussed this before!!

Like you, my first posts here were anti-Imoen in nature. If you hate Imoen as much as I do, I think you'll enjoy this. (Imoen discussion begins at 10-22-2002 11:03 AM.)

As far as Imoen is annoying, Kelsey is even more. He constantly brags about his father, his spells, his feelings... ahhhh *shut up*.
(NHF JC ;) )

Tashia is nice and quite, a fine NPC after you change her portrait.

Grojlach 06-16-2003 02:44 AM

Of course, it's only a little bit of work to disable NPC voices in the game sound settings.

Faceman 06-16-2003 07:10 AM

well I don't wnat ot start a flame war but I like li'l sis :D
She can level up to a powerful mage and has all the basic thieving skills.
Also there is nobody you have to care so much about (except for Aerie maybe).
Hey it's older borthers/sisters duty to look after the younger, that's what my siblings did for me.
As for her banter. IMHO she sometimes takes you out of battle to a quiet peaceful place.

TaSSaDaR 06-16-2003 07:24 AM

Neither do I want to start a field of flame, but I definitely like Imoen, mainly *for her party interaction* !!! From the very first second of BG I ch1, when she joins me, I was wishing BioWare made an Imoen Romance (that time I didn't know that there were no romances in BG I).....

And I am definitely happy with it.

Jan 06-16-2003 07:34 AM

Isn't it just a matter of time before all the different NPC's become just a little annoying? Sometimes Imoen is a pain, then it is Minsc and ...... (you get my point, right?).

Master_Rahl 06-16-2003 07:49 AM

Thx for comments..especially those who don't agree with my humble viewpoint..everyone is entitled to their opinion!

Well that nonsense out of the way..how can anyone say that they enjoy her babbling.. I will admit that she is a looker, but a gag wouldn't change that and prefering to play as Chaotic Evil who cares what she has to say anyway.

The thing that really is annoying though, is that in Jon's dungeon you tell her to bugger off and she does, but she then reappears in spellhold. It is very upsetting that you cannot gain XP for killing NPC (GRIN)

waverider 06-16-2003 08:21 AM

aerie can be ****
i dont think so that
imoen is realy a ****
aerie is even worse

Dragonshadow 06-16-2003 08:37 AM

Welcome to Ironworks Master_Rahl!

I prefered Imoen in the first one- she was cheerful back then. But now she's disturbed... :( She can get annoying.

Whailor 06-16-2003 09:59 AM

Heh.. If you think that Imoen is annoying, then wait till you get Ms. Whiny - Aerie with you. Imoen is quite silent next to her...

LadyLuthien 06-16-2003 11:38 AM

NO character is more annoying than Nalia. I clench my fists and snarl whenever I hear her voice or look at her portrait. I really don't have any feeling at all toward Imoen, positive or negative. And Anomen... well, I've become a little fond of his arrogance, which I consider to be compensation for his insecurities. I find it cute.

I just really hate Nalia. Worst character ever.

(All my humble opinion.)

Terror Toilet 06-16-2003 01:14 PM

Hack them all to pieces and travel with Edwin instead.

Are we talking about the same Kelsey? Average mercantile sorcerer chap, widely reputed to look like a college student and sound like Kevin Costner? Bragging? Anomen's dialogue is an excellent example of boasting. Solaufein's banter with Sarevok has a decided arrogant "I can take you" factor. But Kelsey? The king of hot sorcerer rubdowns? I seem to recall Kelsey having some minor difficulties with his family, complaining that it was hard to grow up with the ability to shoot flames from one's hand, etc. Bragging about feelings? The only example of this that comes to mind is Buttercup in the Princess Bride: "I have loved more deeply than a killer like yourself could ever dream." Normally people don't brag about the depths of their feelings to uninterested third parties.

Of course, it could just be that I missed the sarcasm in your post. Nah. :)

Yep, that's Tashia :). Check out http://weidu.org/fandom/Compton-Drogo.html for a similar viewpoint.

spydar 06-16-2003 02:27 PM

like previously stated they're all annoying at some point or another. the most annoying thing, other than the attitudes of certain characters, is their innate ability to interrupt you with banter at THE most in-opportune times. when I'm trying not to get killed by a bunch of mind flayers I don't really feel like discussing anomen's family or aerie's circus past.

waverider 06-16-2003 02:53 PM

these are romance download a guide for it
well if you did it once if your a male you
can shut down these talk for ever but
if you want the romance well
then keep being nice to her

That should not happen actually. Dialogues are scripted not to occur in combat (like saving or resting) or shortly afterwards. Also some places are flagged inappropriate for them IIRC. however this is often mighty bugged especially with Anomen. I had him start a romance dialogue once in Mae'Var's guildhous while he was at the entrance and I was on the 2nd floor.

slicer15 06-16-2003 05:53 PM

However, some discussions are triggered after you rest, which can be after a fight. Regardless, I have to say I like both Aerie and Imoen. Sure, she can be annoying, but her personality is ok, and Aerie...well, I just like Aerie. Damn good NPC. Imoen is not only an excellent thief and powerful mage, but a decent archer as well! I like that combination...

I found Anomen VERY annoying at first. But ever since I took him to the Temple of Helm and he became Sir Anomen (he finally completes his 'training'), he has stopped his constant banterring. I think that he's only spoken once since then, and it was slightly arrogant (he told Aerie that some one of his importance knows how to speak to other people unlike she does, or something like that). So there's a way to adjust to every character in one way or another ;)

Nerull 06-16-2003 08:04 PM

My first game, I finished it with Minsc, Anomen, Imoen, Aerie, and Nalia. Talk about irritation. :puke:

Imoen can be irritating, especially in Chateau Irenicus. Almost worth getting Ease of Use mod just to install Dungeon Be Gone. However, later in the game, she cools down with the talking and becomes a lot easier to deal with. That's when I like having her in the party. In Chateau Irenicus, I just want to throw her off the edge of the air platform.

Anomen is incredibly annoying. He is downright boorish in his arrogance. The worst part is that he ends up in my party almost as many times as with Imoen, because he is a useful character in the party. I hate hearing him talk about the "ill-conceived group"; you're a part of it, aren't you? If anything, I find him to be worse after passing his test if your reputation is high, because he says that stupid line over. And over. And over.

Aerie, until you get to a certain point in the romance, is so incredibly annoying. She is beyond clingy; she might as well be Superglued to you. It drives me nuts. Once you get past that point in the romance, however, she is much easier to deal with. But she still remains irritating. And, considering I play good most of the time, she's pretty much my main squeeze... :(

Minsc is not too bad, mainly because he is good comic relief. However, he does get irritating at times. Still, I can't help but like the guy.

Nalia is truly obnoxious. They should do a mod where Nalia and Anomen fall in love with each other and run off from the party, just to have a boulder fall on them and kill them both. Nalia is mildly less annoying than her aunt, and combined with the stupid Roenall involvement in your life, just makes you not want to have her in your party.

Other really irritating NPCs: Jan (some people love his stories; I find them incredibly irritating), Cernd (waste of oxygen), and Haer'dalis (the next time he refers to himself as a sparrow I will get a rifle and go sparrow hunting).
