Hi I recently started playing BG again, took up from my last save at the entrance to Baldur's Gate. I'm using a guide because I find it too damn confusing with one zillion quests at the same time. Howerver in the walkthrough it says I should get 2000xp for using the antidote on my party, I used it on everyone in the party and nothing happens, which of course makes me wonder if I'm cured at all.

Any ideas?

Have you found both antidotes ? You need to get some from two different people.

I've got it from both of them.

You dont need to drink the antidote, when you get it you are automatically "cured". That bottle is just a nice reward.

Ok, thanks for the info. But what about the xp?

When I go to see/kill Marek at the end of the poison quest, this is what my version does: I talk to Marek, and he goes off on me on how I expect to take his special antidote and survive his attempt to slay me, but now he's angry, and in oder do get the antidote I'm going to have to fight him (Oh no). The dialogue ends, and if you pause right away (or scroll back up afterward), there's a text message that says "You have been cured of Marek's poison." This is *before* I take any kind of antidote. Then I think it says I get 10,000 for completing the quest, and after I kill Marek I get another 2000 for him. If you have a saved game to go back to, Wrathchild, you could double-check me on the EXP thing.

In other words, I just expanded a whole lot on what Ertai said.

Hey! Why are you stabbing me???

Perfectly said SixOfSpades !!

I think ill have to concentrate a bit on replaying the game (though i dont have time now http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif), i havent played in more than a year now, ive forgot some details. Anyway, with this lot of helpful people around its not necessary that i know every detail http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Good work everybody ! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/No...ons/icon14.gif

Yeah, thanks a lot!
Now I'm sure I've got the quest xp & I don't have to run around fearing the death of poison http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

And if you somehow have a bugged version or whatever, and you somehow get poisoned anyway, I think you can export the character(s) and re-import them (you may have to do some folder shuffling), as it's INCREDIBLY unlikely the "poisoned" status will stay with you.

bavvo 11-02-2001 03:43 PM

Is there a bug where this doesn't work? I just had my whole party drop dead from it (after all the warnings about throwing up dinner etc) and yet I had got both antidote bottles after seeing to the 2 asassins? I even had a slurp from them both.... whats gone wrong?

SixOfSpades 11-02-2001 04:37 PM

It may, of course, be a bug. Just about anything in the game can be caused by a bug. Barring that possibility, however, chances are that you somehow annoyed Lothander--he's a pretty finicky fellow, and sometimes, if you don't do things just right (and Lothander doesn't tell you what "just right" is), he says that you screwed up, and now all of you are gonna die--your party from the poison, and Lothander from the geas. And even if you go kill Marek, you're still suffering the effects of the poison. Bummer! After fighting Marek, ALWAYS scroll upward and look for the text message "You have been cured of Marek's poison." If it's there, you can rest easy. If it ain't......well, let's see if you can beat the rest of the game in under 10 days, game time.

Well I can't finish the game in under 10 days (I just ain't that good) and I re ran the last save game from just before the whole poison quest and did it again, and nope - no you've been cured message, despite dealing with both assasins. Think that game is doomed unless I can find a hack to take out the poisoned flag. Can such things be done?

SixOfSpades 11-06-2001 04:48 AM

YES, it CAN be done, thanks to the brilliance and generosity of those who have gone before (and I'm not talking about me). Get thee to this page, young man:

http://www.execulink.com/~cmohan/aru...g_scripts.html

and download the AI script that magically rids your party members of Marek's poison (by conveniently juggling a few Global Variables).

bavvo 11-08-2001 02:27 PM

Tragically it didn't work! The script does indeed do what it said it would ("you have been cured of Mareks poison" popped up, but 2 days later all my guys promptly drop dead. I guess the whole install is probably stuffed, so I will have a go at a reinstall. Thanks for your help though.
