im having a problem with doing away with the umber hulks in Nalias keep.
SPoiler --------------------------------------------------------- i have the dog stew but i dunno where to put it! in any case i cant kill them enough coz they keep confusing my players. help. |
Cloud Kill is the easiest way to kill them. If you have that spell.
Have a cleric with Sanctuary enter the room, with the umber hulks. Use a mage to cast cloud kill into the room. The Umber Hulks will die. for those at the back make them spot you and run through the cloud. They should all die. After you kill the Umber Hulks.... (minor Spoiler) Assuming you made the dog meat stew. - - - - - - ... you can still get experience for placing the dog meat stew in the dirt found in the cell with the underground passage for experience. (Cells, found to left of room with Umber Hulks) If you still find the cloud kill method difficult have your cleric with sanctuary cast, carry the dog meat to the underground passage. The Umber hulks will go in to the dungeon section leaving the room they were just in empty. [ 06-10-2003, 06:34 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |
Yeah, ya' know, I've never actually done the dogmeat thing... What I like to do is cast A) Cloudkill or B) Fireball, then the ones that don't die come out of the room and attack me, and I have my fighters kill 'em. If there's any left, I do it again.

Yip,
Umber Hulks can be a pain in the posterior first time through SoA. They're pretty strong and cast that ugly Confusion spell. To avoid them make the dog meat stew and have an invisible (Potion, Hide in Shadows, Invis spell) or sanctuaried (cleric spell) party member take it to the left - close the door - tadaa. To kill them easily: Cloudkill into the room and close the door. To kill them in man to man combat - buff up your party (Bless, Chant, ...) have the tanks wear Charm protection items and be sure the mages have no serious weapon so they can't do too much damage if they decide to attack the party. spoiler on dog stew - - - - - - - - - - - (kill the dogs outside and make the stew in the kitchen) |
I always send in my thief with improved invisibility cast on him to put the stew on the thing...that way, they munch on the stew, and not me ;)

Death Spell is also very effective.

I never have had serious troubles with them. Cast Web (Chant) or something else to hold and/or Slow them , then cast your favorite spells on them Fire balls, Cloud kills, Ice storms - whatever (two are enough), also an invisible cleric with blades shield will do the job just fine, also ... etc. - there are so many ways. get them one by one in a room kill one at the time...
thats how i do it, also do dogstew so you get extra EXP |
do the thing with the dogmeat then lock them in the room and lure them out one by one. ;) It works

Trap their way to the food.

using a thief with invis potions, or good HS/MS set up an empty room to whack em in, minsc with Liracor (or anyone with it for that matter) is waiting in it while the rest of your party waits in a room farther away, keep doors closed at all times... have the thief behind the door, open it with warrior type, and lure 1 or 2 hulks in, have the thief slam the door before more than 1 or 2 go through, then drink potion to avoid confusion, a good level (8-10 fighter) with high str can usually take out one or two without too much harm coming to him, a higher level fighter should have an even easier time of it. Of course send in a priest to heal up the fighter, or use potions, whichever you prefer before starting round 2.
wands of cloudkill can substitute for the fighter if you feel lazy (the cost of recharging them is well worth it, due to the fact that wands ignore MR, not elemental Resist, but all MR) |
try giving someone the stew and castn haste. let him run to the cell and place the stew. make sure the critters follow then lock the doors
