Righty i know that after leveling up sumtimes you gain an ability. Mostly its charm animal - but i noticed that Minsc gained something else, i can't remember what it is because its been weeks since i played BG2 (POO!). But what i did notice is that it didn't stay there, and i know that it wasn't because of an item.

So basically my question is - Do rangers gain other abilities other than charm animal? (not worried about HLA as i don't have TOB yet) - Ooooh! and if possible does anyone know at what levels abilities are gained?

Just a question to see whether it applies to your case, but do you have Aerie in your party?

I am not familiar with Ranger class at all, but as far as it considers Minsc - he has Ranger's Rage (tm [img]smile.gif[/img] ) which is (IMHO) like the berserker's one but disables control of the enraged character, making him berserk indeed. Use with caution.

Aye i found that out - tis similar to the Berserker sword is it not? useful when fighting! but when all enemies are dead? RUN AWAY!!!

Minsc has a Berserker Rage ability. When he makes Aerie his witch, he uses it whenever Aerie is near-death.

Having levelled up a bit, Minsc starts recieving some priest spells. Any chance you messed special abilities with priest spells? They are mostly blue, you see...

Yes, that could be it. IIRC Minsc´s Berserker Rage ability has a red icon, not blue.

Aye i suppose that could be it, a few times Minsc has been drained in some way - and i know that when that happens you have to setup your spell book again....hmmm seems viable [img]smile.gif[/img]

? Ranger spells goes into the spellbook, not the special ability tab.

You may have looked into the spell section instead of Spec. Ability section. It sometimes happened to me too [img]smile.gif[/img] Too many hours spent speaking with Boo, I guess...

Naaah twas definetley in the abilities bit, ahhh well i'll have another look when i finally get BG2 working! hmph! need to format PC but me housemate is taking his time deciding what he wants to keep....i may just smite him and format it anyway!

Does the cloak of the sewers grant Shapeshift: Human (or whatever it is) as a special ability, or is that under the items tab aswell?

it is under items tab

actually, it is under the special abilities tab, but the icon color is white, not blue.

Just on the subject of Ranger Abilities, Archers do not get Charm Animal in the first place.

And I've never known Minsc to have any sort of mysterious blue-icon Special Ability that you say you're missing. So there. [img]tongue.gif[/img]
