This may seem like an odd idea and berate me if its been thought of before!...but...would it be possible to edit Boo and make him into a ranged weapon?

I don't know what rules would apply, but maybe some sort of confusion would be involved? ie. lash Boo at an opponent, and while he/she/it is trying to deal with the hamster thats running riot in their armour you could simply run up and beat the snot out of them! But then again i suppose whilst your smashing them to bits you may well harm Boo....thoughts anyone?

TaSSaDaR 05-16-2003 07:59 AM

Usable once per day, cuz Boo gets tired of being smashed into a platemail And possibly lowering rep (or a chance to get -1 rep) cuz Minsc would surely be upset

But I would make Boo cause feeblemind instead of confusion. Think of the effect he has on Minsc Maybe Boo is somehow akin to mind flayers??

ShadowChild 05-16-2003 08:03 AM

Aye, and only usable by Minsc...seein as he gets so annoyed when you try to pet the furry little fella! and a brain eating hamster! i shudder at the thought!

If anyone could have a bash at making this i'm sure it would be a funny addon

Not sure about the feeblemind tho, as the reason Minsc is such a cretin is the fact that he's received one too many bumps to the noggin!

Who knows, who knows... maybe Boo is indeed a space hamster, an alien lifeform which parasites on Minsc's body (remeber how Minsc explains the fact that Boo was not taken from him when your party was captured by Irenicus men), slowly devouring his brain. I think I've read a book about some kind of those parasites (science fiction), but they occupied a place just below the neck of a victim, right on the spinal cord, not the quickslot

Anyone read the book? I wanna recall the author/title and re-read it

You're ruining everyone's opinion of Boo now!

ShadowChild 05-16-2003 08:47 AM

True! maybe Boo is actually a shape shifter who has taken on the form of a small fury animal to appear more innocent!!...and maybe a charm spell or two has aided his cause!!

ShadowChild 05-16-2003 09:19 AM

Boo is still a loveable little rodent! nothing will change that!

TaSSaDaR 05-16-2003 09:29 AM

Heh... loveable... you mentioned some charm spells, if I am not mistaken?? Then your feelings are quite understandable Let me cast a Dispell Magic on you, my son. Here you go. Feel better?

I'll post some information on space hamsters when i get home, there are many varieties, the giant, fire-breathing phase doppleganger space hamster is one of my favorites.

SixOfSpades 05-16-2003 12:51 PM

Ranged? Certainly not! Boo is a melee weapon, with the range of a Dagger.

ATTRIBUTES:
- Does 1D2+1 Piercing damage
- Each hit is an automatic Backstab, at x3 multiplier
- Strikes as a Normal weapon
- Victim must Save vs. Wands or become permanently Blinded
- Victims not wearing Helmets take a +3 penalty to their Save
- Because Boo gets tired, he can only fight 3 times per day, and then only for 4 rounds.

GO FOR THE EYES, BOO! GO FOR THE EYES! RAAAAAAAAGH!

I bet boo is really a bronze dragon! its in the nature of bronze dragons to polymorph into innocent wild life just to be able to be around mortals without frightening the hell out of them, isnt it now?! heres proof:

Bronze dragons are inquisitive and fond of humans and demi-humans. They enjoy polymorphing into small, friendly animals so they can unobtrusively observe humans and demi-humans, especially adventurers. Bronze dragons thrive on simple challenges such as riddles and harmless contests. They are fascinated by warfare and will eagerly join an army if the cause is just and the pay is good.

Straight from the monstrous manual!

McHaggis 05-16-2003 02:54 PM

Would it be possible to make Boo as something like mage's familiar? I know only protagonist can have familiar via spell, but would it be possible to do it? He (She? Is Boo male or female hamster? Or perhaps both? ) would be a perfect scout with some special abilities, let's just say something like Blindness spell (we all know why..).

IranicuS 05-16-2003 04:06 PM

we will see it in Bg3:P:P. Perhaps boo becomce the great evil. Hope not ofcourse:d

You might be thinking of Puppet Masters by Robert Heinlein

On topic: I think Boo should be modded to be a summoning object, usuable once per day, to summon an UNminiature giant space hamster

Gnoman 05-22-2003 03:11 PM

O Yeah! That'd be sweet! P.S. Gaea Space Hamsters appear in Dragon Quest Games..any relation? What do you think?

Hecate 05-22-2003 03:28 PM

I would definitely say give Boo a blindness attack since one of Minsc's war cries has always been "Go for the eyes, Boo!".

Another thing - since he eats so much crackers, maybe a gas attack as well?

Gnoman 05-22-2003 03:38 PM

What? He eats crackers? Ah well, you can't learn everything about a game like this, even if you spend six hours a day on it for a week... in the words of the Hard-Rockers that Neo meets, maybe I need to unplug.

Indemaijinj 05-22-2003 04:29 PM

Ridiculous!

Space Hamsters are not parasitic aliens. Anyone who knows their D&D lore, more specifically Spelljammer lore, knows that the Giant Space hamster is a rather innocious creature, though dangerous when provoked.

Space hamsters are bred by spacefaring gnomes who use them to drive their spaceships by ways of giant running wheels. The rigors of space have made this breed especially prone to mutations and it is rare to see a completely normal giant space hamster. Mutations can include anything from extra limbs and heads, tentacles, armored carapace, poisonous spines or even wings.

It could be perfectly plausible that Boo's mutation just made him incredibly tiny (making him indestinguishable from a normal hamster).

FelixJaeger 05-22-2003 04:38 PM

I think the only way to use Boo and keep it reasonably within the game would be to make him attack enemies that attack Minsc for say 1 point of damage, remember Minsc does not let Boo out of his sight...

You mean a la the Studded Leather of Thorns? Yeah, that'd be perfectly logical, except it would be some trouble to assure that Boo can only bite enemies who score <u>melee</u> hits. And I really hope we can work Blindness in there somehow....

Olorin 05-23-2003 01:29 AM

It really should only be half blindness since realistically, if Boo claws out one of their eyes, they will protect the remaining one and Boo will have to retreat. Of course, against the Pirate captain, Boo would inflict full blindness because everyone knows that all pirate captains have one eye and the other socket is covered by a patch...Arrrrr.

TaSSaDaR 05-23-2003 06:58 AM

Thanks, Olorin It is it

On Topic:

Maybe a 50% chance for permanent blindness, only dispellable with Heal spell?

spydar 05-24-2003 12:01 AM

When I think of Boo as either a melee or a ranged weapon I just envision the rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

"I warned ya, I warned ya! But no, you didn't listen to me. No, it's just a harmless little hampster isn't it?"
"With nasty big pointy teeth!"

Sparhawk 05-24-2003 11:30 AM

I´m sure that Boo is not a space hamster...instead he must be the infamous mini-furry-hamster-dragon...an odd offspring and the result of certain intimaties between a Gold Dragon and a Brown bear :D :D
Though I certainly like the idea of usin Boo as a ranged weapon I can´t help but think that U´d get brained by Minsc if usin Boo so!

Dundee Slaytern 05-24-2003 11:57 AM

If Minsc has less than 25% Hp, Boo leaps out squeaking from Minsc's armour and whips out his miniature twin vorpal katanas and proceeds to lay waste to those who dare harm Minsc.
<font color="#FFFFFF">
Boo's Blade( both of them)

1d2 slashing damage

50% chance to score a vorpal hit. Target must save versus death with a +4 bonus or die instantly from a fatally precise hit to one of his/her acupuncture points.

25% chance to stun the target for one round. Target can save versus death for no effect.

Only usable by Boo
Not droppable( even if it did, people would mistake them to be toothpicks or needles)
</font>
Boo is a level 40 Kensai.
<font color="#00FFFF">
Special Ability

Once a day, Boo is able to leap with great effort onto the target's face and proceed to lay waste to its' eyes. If the target has no eyes, the attack will have no effect. The attack lasts for a maximum of four rounds.

1st Round: No save, target is blinded for 4 rounds. Must save versus wands or panic/berserk.
2nd Round: Save versus wands for no effect, else suffer 1 points of bleeding damage per second for 4 rounds. Target is Confused for 4 rounds.
3rd Round: Save versus wands with a +2 bonus for no effect, else suffer an additional 2 points of bleeding damage per second for 4 rounds. Target suffer Chaos for 4 rounds.
4th Round: Save versus wands with a +4 bonus for no effect, else suffer permanent blindness unless Healed, and an additional 3 points of bleeding damage per second for 4 rounds. Target is rendered unconsicious from excessive bleeding for 1 turn.

Yes, I am speaking from the rear-end here, but hey, it's just fanciful thinking on my part. ;)

If Boo is to be any type of fighter, then he has to be similar to Hamatoyoshi from the Ninja-Turtles movie, and he knows martial arts. And he practices every evening.

Maybe BG3 could be about looking for Shredder...

That reminds me of a D&D adventure we played once, where we killed the ninja turtles. ahh, that was fun.
