Im having real truble with sarevoks acolates on the top floor of the iron throne building when im doind a quest for duke eltan, no matter what i try i always seem to get my but severly kicked by them, in my party i've got
Me - Fighter/mage Imoen Khalid Jaheria Minsk Dynaheir - she has a wand of holding (or sumthing similar) i really need the help coz im getting real ticked off by these guys |
Use explosives: arrows, neclace. If situation is difficult you can go back downstairs and return using second staircase!
|
Summoning monsters is a tactic I use when it is really tough. Engage the guy with with the bow in hand to hand ASAP. He seems to know who your mages are. Use magic missle on the spell casters to disrupt thier spells.
------------------ Baruk Khazad! Khazad Aimenu! The axes of the dwarves! The dwarves are upon you! |
Why you don't have a cleric (for stinking cloud + summon undead), I don't know. But you and Dynaheir can let loose a couple of fireballs, then send two fighters in (with ring of free action and the other with spidersword), as your mage webs+horror+sleep (just for the hell of it). That should make it a lot easier for you.
|
Ummm.....Clerics can't do Stinking Cloud. I've never taken out that floor without doing the cheesy tactic of having my Thief go up a staircase, perform a backstab or bowshot, and retreat. But there are non-cheesy ways to do it: The spellcasters are kinda bunched up, so a few Arrows of Detonation should disrupt them pretty well. And arrows of Piercing for that guy with the bow. Expensive, I know, but what else were you going to use that money for?
(I find that Stinking Cloud works best on a bunch of bad guys when I have my Thief/Mage Stealth around to the OTHER side of them to cast it. That way they're in the Cloud, and my archers are out of it.) |
clerics can't do stinking cloud, but the cleric can animate dead while you mage casts the cloud. That way, within one round, you have your first attack set in. Furthermore, if Dyn is a high enough level to cast it (i.e. maxed out), though I doubt it, cloudkill is a nice touch...

It's a tough one alright. It had me going about it the wrong way several times, but the best option in the end i.e. one which prevents you having to obtain a raise dead of four, is the brute force approach.
A doppleganger will try to attack your mage, for my Dynaheir, in hand to hand, so I had to cover her with my fighters whilst moving my archers in for some explosive arrow-related tomfoolery. The advantage I found was that you do not have to roll back too much of the fog of war, so when all of the unpleasantness was over, there was two bodies on the floor that I had never even engaged. Nice. For spells though, the family favourites of Horror, Fireball, Web, Stinking Cloud, and of course Magic Missile should all do the trick. I don't recall using anything other than those. Sometimes the simplest plans are the simplest. Or so They tell me. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif ------------------ Making running away an art form |
Thanks for the help aint got past it yet but almost, i think though i have to disagree with Telchar of Nogrod coz that guy with the arrows never seems to pick on Dynahier he always seems to go for minsk or jaheria, also what spells are the two fighter/druids using when they call down big colums of fire, they kick arse (mine usually), the two mages arent that much of a hassel i can usually ignore them, they jst seem to cast horror spells which dont bother me (i have all my characters on potions) + the fireball spell aint really any use if you come up the left stairs coz then you end up nailing your own players
|
That spell is Flamestrike. It's a Druid spell, and also comes in the Wand of the Heavens, purchased at Sorcerous Sundries. Only Clerics & Druids can use it.
|
MINOR SPOILER
- - - - Oh, yeah. StarVid? How the hell can you equip one of your fighters with the Ring of Free Action when you don't find that ring until AFTER the fight in question? Potions of Freedom and the spell Free Action do the same thing, though. ------------------ "How do you define 'fool?'" "I don't attempt to. I wait for examples. They inevitably surpass my imagination." |
Yep dex-man, I've always gone up the stairs to the right of the screen. That way you have more room to manoeuvre and distance with which to use missile weapons. Your fighters should stay close and deal with the bad guys that come towards you (that pesky doppleganger for starters).
Flame Strike's a good spell, but it isn't directed if you cast it - though you can choose your target if you use the wand. At least I think that's how it works. Tell me if I'm wrong. ------------------ Making running away an art form |
Well after still not having such good luck with the acolytes i tried something different, i sent my thief up with stealth on, sure it worked i got past the acolytes got all the papers needed, talked to one of the leader of the iron throne and got the hell out quick. but now im back in baulders gate in chapter 7 and about to enter the iron throne building again, ya think that the acolytes will still be there now?
Good to find sumone who agrees with me Lord Brass |
That is the cheekiest thing I've heard of in a long time, dex_man http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Well done, I say.
As for those wretched bad guys, I would imagine they will still be there. Of course, I've never had the gall to go sneaking around like that, so I'm learning from the master on that one. Just keep telling yourself that they're dead before they entered the ring and you should be fine. Though, if memory serves me, the cleric gave me a harder time than the mages, but of course they never really entered play. Killing off-screen. Now THATS comedy! ------------------ Making running away an art form |
SPOILER
- - - - - The funniest thing is thet in chapter 7 there are some new entertainments at the last floor in the Iron Throne building. Tell us how it ended! |
That's odd.....I'm well acquainted with using my Thief on the top floor of the Iron Throne, but I've never let them live before. I just kicked everyone off my party, and sent in my main character (a Fighter->Thief) to slaughter them all by himself. _MEGA_ EXP! Then go get everyone back on the team again. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/smiles/338.gif
***SPOILER*** - - - - - - I would NOT recommend letting those 6 bad guys live. If you come back during Chapter 7, either A) They're not there, which means you've lost a good chunk of EXP and some really cool items, or B) They ARE there, which means you still have to fight them, AT THE SAME TIME you're tangling with the mage and her Ogres that appear there once Chap. 7 opens. |
Wow! You guys are evil. It would never occur to me to try that tactic SixOfSpades. Nice plan though. Is it hard to reform the party afterwards or do they just mill around a bit in the Iron Throne building?

Well, I've only done that in Multiplayer, so I was on the safe side there: All booted party members will stay exactly where they are, even if your Rep. is completely at odds with their Alignment. In Single Player, there are risks: Any Neutral character (such as Jahiera) will leave and never come back once you boot her if she's been complaining about the party's reputation. Kivan might do the same thing no matter what your Rep. is, as he's Chaotic and a free spirit. Minsc and Imoen (especially Imoen) are very dependable. It's a "Save, Try It, and Find Out" kinda thing.
Slaughtering groups of bosses with your Thief is extremely effective, but VERY cheesy, and poor roleplay. Look at it from the bad guy's side: "OW! Hey, guys, somebody just Backstabbed me! It really hurt!" "Well, should we attack him?" "Nah, he already ran back down the stairs. Let's just wait for him to come back." so they do..... "OW! Somebody just hit me with an Arrow of Detonation!" ....etcetera, etcetera..... |
First up thanks for the compliment Lord Brass
and now on to more important matters, yeah they were still there except for the doppleganger there one minute gone the next, but i just used imoen in stealth and arrows of ice (no saving throw, took out both fighter/druids with 4 shot each) , biting and detonation and slowly cleared the room out making sure i didnt have that other mage attack me left her to later, but the strangest thing did happen one of the mages never seemed to die, i killed him, went down then went back up and killed him again, it wasnt till i stormed the 2 fighters left alone that i finally killed the guy, I did at the start try to pick pocket the other mage with the 2 ogres but coz i had focused on picking locks and stealth when imoen went up a level i never quite got it, i was hoping to avoid fighting them all but hey got the exp |
Silky skills! Well done that man. Another anomaly within the game, but as you say, it's the finish that matters as much as the getting there. Know what you mean though, I've had attacks from people that I can see on the periphery of the Fog, taken consistent damage but couldn't hammer back unless I wanted to move in closer. Much closer. Too close.
Enjoy the MIs did we?http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif ------------------ Making running away an art form |
Speaking of strange things, I've seen a freaky bug in two games so far: On your first time in Feldepost's Inn in Beregost, Marl comes up and picks a fight, etc, etc, and if you talk to him the right way you can get 900 Exp, and if you're a bastard like me, you can then fight him for another 650. So I left his corpse slowly cooling to the ambient room temperature and wandered around town for a bit, and when I got back, there was Marl again! He wasn't even hostile! Annoying NPC doesn't want to stay dead, eh? WHACK! Leave, come back. Still there. WHACK! Still there. He'd be there to this day, with 650 Exp. for each kill, if I'd kept the Saved Game. Anybody else encountered this?
|
yeah did enjoy it thanks Lord Brass.
Nah SixofSpades I never encountered that bug, i let the guy live you get more experience that way i think. Well thank you all for helping me out in the Iron Throne building especially Lord Brass, SixOfSpades and the guy who e-mailed me (I'm not saying his name just in case he doesn't want it said, but you know who you) but if I have any other problems this will be the first place I come. once again thanks |
