I have Arbane's Sword (i think thats the name) equiped which grants free action when held. However when I cast web and wander in the web, I still get held. What gives? The sword is equiped and the little free action icon is there. I thought this would be a great little combo.

Read the Item Description.

"Immunity to Hold Person while equipped."

Always read the Item Description.

Yea, the item may present a Free Action icon in your character's portrait, but it doesn't make your character immune to web, entangle, plant growth, and so forth.

And then there's Firecam Free Action, which seems to be absolutely worthless. I was moseying through the Sewers yesterday and discovered that it doesn't give Keldorn immunity to Entangle--it just gives him immunity to the Portrait Icon of being Entangled, and the Spell Graphic that usually shows the vines trapping the person in a cage. So, there he was, unable to walk, with that good ol' "Firecam Free Action" icon in his portrait.

</font>
Its only real use, if any, is to keep in a extra weapon slot, never to be used, but kept there for the haste once per day ability. That, or some gold ;)

Xen 05-03-2003 04:50 PM

Yes,but once you get Boots Of Speed it is worthless and then you can have that extra slot for another weapon

::hijacks the thread::

AFAIK, the boots of speed increase movement rate, while Haste/Improved Haste doubles movement rate and adds attacks per round. Is this still true?

I enjoy stealing things that aren't mine, Annatar. I also don't want to make a new thread for a similar question.

So what happens if somebody wears the boots of speed and is under the influence of Haste? Does only one effect apply? Do neither of the effects work? Does the character explode into chunky nibblets?

Dundee Slaytern 05-04-2003 01:57 PM

Eh... not sure if the BoSpeed will stack with other Haste sources, but I do know that the Oil of Speed will stack will other Haste sources. A Blade with Improved Haste, Oil of Speed and Offensive Spin is an absolute speed demon. Easily zipping across maps in an eyeblink.

SixOfSpades 05-05-2003 07:54 PM

Boots of Speed: Faster Movement Rate
Haste: Faster Movement Rate + 1 extra attack per round, tends to Fatigue the user
Oil of Speed: Just like Haste, but without the Fatigue
Improved Haste: Faster Movement Rate, doubles their Attacks per Round, does not cause Fatigue.

Despite Arbane's Sword being a disappointment in the Free Action category, it's still a +2 weapon that comes your way pretty dang early in the game.
