Which is the toughest dragon in SoA (no mods) in your opinion?

This is my fourth time through the game. I am now playing a Blade. I have killed in the following order Adalon (se started the fight - she was angry because of her eggs), Firkaag and the shadow dragon (sorry, can't remeber the name).

So far, for me Adalon was the toughest.

Butterfingers 04-29-2003 02:10 PM

Angry Silver Dragon is the toughest, because I find my self revoltingly evil for killing such a creature. While I always play my evil characters are true to character as possible, I always have a hard time with this one act.

Vedran 04-29-2003 02:12 PM

Shadow dragon is something like Thaxl'sillya.

The toughest dragon is the first one you meet. Whichever that is. When battling the second, you will have better equipment and abilities.

Xen 04-29-2003 02:40 PM

There is no such thing as the toughest Dragon,so i fully agree with Vedran

Agreed 100% with Vedran.

DRAGON SHORTHAND FOR THE SPELLING IMPAIRED:

Shadow Dragon: Thaxy
Red Dragon: Firky
Silver Dragon: Addy
Black Dragon: Nizzy

And for those who can say Thaxll'ssillyia, Firkraag, Adalon, and Nizidramanii'yt without looking them up, I suggest professional help.

Hardest one for me is Firkraag, has always been Firkraag, and will always be Firkraag. He's a tricky little devil no matter your level.

Gangrell 04-29-2003 03:46 PM

The Silver Dragon in my opinion is the toughest dragon to face. I've been able to put up with Firkragg and the Shadows/Black dragons but she was by far the hardest.

P.s.- Vedran, Xen, there is such a thing as the "toughest" dragon to face if you're not equiped to handle them

I did it pretty good without checking with NI, don't you think ;) .

True, but that doesn't depend on the dragon, but on your party. The question was "Who is the toughest dragon for majority of parties?"

Gangrell 04-29-2003 04:27 PM

So, what you're saying is that it all depends on the party. So all the creatures in the game are hard, just depends on you? True I guess, but don't forget it all doesn't depend on party statistics, you also have to have a good knowledge of most monsters, but if you don't technically it makes them "harder." ;)

Vedran 04-29-2003 04:36 PM

Of course, we mentioned that:

With mostly the same party.
Player XP is often much more important than a well equipped and skilled characters.

Xen 04-29-2003 04:49 PM

And Dragons can be relative hard becuase:
-like Vedran pointed out,if you have the right equipment they can be a piece of orange cake
-sooner or later you find the right tactics/strategy to beat them(Ask here )

it is really a question of knowledge and a little luck i guess

Xero279 04-29-2003 05:19 PM

If you are prepared none of them are hard. and when your my lvl they arent hard anyway ;)

But for the hardest, i allways had the hardest time (compared to the other drags) on the Black dragon. Why you ask? One of his Black Dragon special abilities, Plant Growth. Its like a powerful web spell that traps my fighters. i guess free action would work, but i never bother with that spell.

mmkay 04-29-2003 06:41 PM

No questions asked, Firkragg. He also dishes out the best equipment and XP:D

Thuram 04-30-2003 04:34 AM

Thanks for the replys.

I will check out the Black Dragon next, hopefully I find time to do it today. I have a ring of free action so I will see if this makes me immune to plant growth. It probably should do to the entangle part, but didn't this spell also damage or was it the dragon itself?

Anyway I am not planning to get near the dragon. My plan is to have the skeleton warriors distract it and cast spells from afar.

I am soloing and I often find it easier this way because you do not neet to take care about your weaker companions. I believe it is easier to kill them with a mage or fighter/mage type of character than with a straight fighter, because you can weaken it with spells and protect yourself with skins and images.

TaSSaDaR 04-30-2003 07:47 AM

The Black Dragon only managed to throw that Plant Growth at me right before he died. He hit the ground in the same time the spell hit my tank. So, as you see, his Plant Growth ability is of no problem

Never killed Adalon. But for the rest of the dragons, Firkraag is the toughest. The Shadow one is a piece of cake (well, almost ), and by the time I get to the Black one any dragon doesn't pose any treat to me. Firky is the one that made me reload twice

Raistlin Majere 04-30-2003 07:54 AM

If you beat one Dragon, youve beaten them all.

Raistlin Majere 04-30-2003 07:55 AM

Wohoo! Level up

Anyone got TOB?. Wandering a little from SOA there is a dragon that is alot thougther than any in SOA although I havn't fought adalon before. It the a green one I think and it has an annoying habit of casting invisibilty on itself whenever you cast a spell causing you to lose it. Took a few goes to kill it.

In SoA, I find either Firkraag or Adalon the hardest. Killed em both...not sure which is harder though...

Gangrell 04-30-2003 10:59 PM

Ohhhh, Improved Abazigal. *shudders*

Yea, Draconis was a pain with his Invisibility tactics though True Sight takes care of that little problem ;) Adalon was really very hard for me so I never bothered fighting her. Her breath weapon always killed my characters in a couple of rounds so I said screw it :D

Russ 05-01-2003 10:58 AM

It's weird... no matter who it is, it seems to take me three tries.
But that's okay, I like the music...

ToB WK and 4th fight spoilers! *The first time I met Draconis and fought him in my human form, I paused the game to gear Aizawa and Imoen for spellcasting, then thought, "why is the dragon music playing? It's just a mage and some stalkers...and the room is rather big...uh-oh..." I had the same sort of double-take in Watcher's Keep in the Githyanki lair when I stumbled onto the Demi-Lich. I had the game on auto-pause: enemy sighted and chuckled the chuckle of the damned.*
