Just came back after seeing the movie Phone Booth (pretty good suspense with a crap ending), and one thing that caught me instantly was the narrating voice in the beginning. It is positively the same guy who does Sarevoks voice throughout the BG series. Pretty cool that some of the voice actors in these games actually seem to have some sort of Hollywood career, especially the guy who does Irenicus voice.

ShadowChild 04-15-2003 04:04 AM

Irenicus sounds like Jeremy Irons

Dace De'Briago 04-15-2003 05:38 AM

Did any of you guys see the movie 'Time Bandits' at one point? I think the guy who plays the 'evil one' sounds the spit of Irenicus.

Actually, I'm suprised that no soundpacks get the soundbytes from this film because it is quality all the way.

Dundee Slaytern 04-15-2003 07:24 AM

David Warner does Jon Irenicus' voice.

Mark Hamill( popular for his Luke Skywalker role, has a voice role in Icewind Dale)

ShadowChild 04-15-2003 08:12 AM

Hehehe, it would be great to have a voice like Irenicus! especially over the phone, t'would intimidate anyone!

Xero279 04-15-2003 02:46 PM

I'm with you Shadowchild hehe. By the way, i know who does Irenicus's voice.. but what else has he done i would know?? anyhting famous?

He played in the TV show Hornblower in the latest season, and he played Billy Zanes aging personal assistant in Titanic.

The voice of kevin Michael Richardson (Sarevok) is one of my favourites. Click the link to see what "Sarevok" looks like and also what films/other games he has done the voices for. It turns out that he's done voices/acted in some 70+ films and games, and has had another 70+ notable TV appearances!! (his deep unique voice must be very popular!)

You can spot his accent a mile off, especially if you've played the BG/IWD series a million times over and know exactly what he sounds like!

The first film I noticed his voice in was Lilo and Stitch a couple of months ago (he played Captain Gantu). BTW Rataxes, I don't think he played a role in Phone Booth, I checked the whole cast listing and he wasn't there....

Nah, I know. For some strange reason he isn't listed anywhere at all on IMDB. But I challenge anyone to see that movie, listen to that introductionary narration, and tell me it's not him

Really??? i never knew my (least) fav mage was in a wussy movie like Titanic :D

Aren't the voices a little bit tinkered with?

Like adding sounds and making it more deeply and harder... It aint just a guy that says some sentences and walks away.. BioWare crew saying ''Okay thats a wrap! now were done...''

Surely it is that those voices have been altered and edited to be used in BG II, and make it so that they fit the ''atmosphere''

Not..?

Don't know about that, Irenicus sounds exactly like David Warner himself, at least when he played the crazy captain in Hornblower. I doubt they actually fiddled with his voice that much. They are actors you know, they can most likely alter their voice themselves sufficiently to fit the atmosphere ;)

The guy who did Sarevok also did DEMONGO in Samurai Jack?!??!?!?... at's a seriously soprano voice... wow! Great range.

Wumpspawner 04-22-2003 12:01 PM

I was watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze yesterday with my son, when a certain voice caught my attention. This dorky-looking, middle-aged scientist spoke with the voice of Irenicus. I don't think I'll ever be able to take Irenicus seriously again... So, if you want a good idea as to what the man that talks Irenicus looks like, watch TMNT II. David Warner plays a pretty big part in it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go smack around a certain little sissy mage/scientist we all know...

Well, I saw Phone Booth over the weekend (liked it) and I have to agree with Rataxes here, the narration voice at the start of the film is most definately Kevin Richardson's (Sarevok).

I don't think so. The NPC voices AFAIK are true to the actors portraying them. Sarevok's is definately true to Kevin Richardson's voice, as is Jeremy Irons to Irenicus' voice. Other than compressing the signal, and running them through various noise reduction/removal filters, the voices should be unchanged.

Com. Officer? Was it the enclave you can get contact from Gecko's nuclear plant? That "The-United-f**king-States-of-f**king-America"-guy? (IIRC, it was something like that, once had a screenshot of it ) That was so hilarious when I heard it first time. Not that I like cursing but it just came so 'good'.

BTW, offtopic (like this whole post was not?), but does somebody here play Fallout 2? IMO, it is the best CRPG. (Oh forgive, second best, BG2 is better, not much but still. )

Geez.. Now I don't wonder why I found that Pyro's sound so oddly familiar, although it's been modified quite a bit. :D

You should see all the stuff on the guy that did Minsc, Jim Cummings http://us.imdb.com/Name?Cummings,%20Jim

Dundee Slaytern 04-23-2003 02:29 AM

The voice of Minsc is also the voice of Tazok and Gorion in BG1? Twisted... not to mention Arundel in IWD.

Rimjaw 04-23-2003 02:36 AM

David Warner played Helena Bonham Carter's father in Planet of the Apes.
The voice of Fry from Futurama (Billy West) is also the voice of Lehtinan.
The whole actor's voices in crpgs isn't a new thing, Fallout and Fallout 2 had lots of celeb voices as well.

Trau 04-23-2003 02:55 AM

David Warner is also Ra's Al Ghul from the Batman animated shows.

I could tell that right away. Jim Cummings is also the spirit that you meet before seeing Yaga Shura's mother. He's also in probably every modern Disney film or television cartoon. Guy gets around, he does, and I've never liked his voice. Look for him as the bulk soldier/guard/policeman in Aladdin, and also, he takes over from Jeremy Irons at the very end of Scar's song, Be Prepared, in the Lion King.

Throrgrim 04-23-2003 02:08 PM

Minsc plays winnie the pooh? lmho, he is a weirdo!! he did arundel as well from Icewind Dale! I really dont believe that! They sound NOTHING alike.
hes been in tonnes of disney films as well by the looks of things.
they all seem a bit wacko apart from some of the serious ones like... i cant find any.

Dreamer128 04-24-2003 06:36 AM

Can you believe it? Mazzy Fentan plays Junko in Freelancer!
