And indeed Xen, your Sorcerer really did it all by himself... with the rest of the Undead legion and some minor Deitý's you summoned, only to be used as plain cannon fodder :D .

But you as director of the swarming mob... do deserve some credit ;)

Actually; your solo sorcerer did need help at every twist and turn, Xen, judging from the enormous amount of "Need help with Improved yadiyada" posts you made. Don't be too proud of yourself..

BlackJack21 03-22-2003 05:10 PM

Did you finally manage to beat the end battle?

pcgiant 03-22-2003 05:35 PM

Well done Xen, even if you did have to post for advice every few days. Now try soloing something less user-friendly than a sorcerer. At the moment, I'm soloing a Beastmaster.

LOL! =)

Rataxes 03-22-2003 05:54 PM

Better yet, try soloing something without reloads. I'm doing an F/T/M right now on insane with the full array of weimer mods. It's mighty frustrating when the slightest slip-up or stroke of bad luck forces you to start anew. Just this evening I was killed by a Shadow in the Circus Tent who drained my STR to zero after having cast Ray of Enfeeblement on me  not much you can do about it. But it also makes the game more exciting, reminds me quite a bit about Diablo II Hardcore mode.

What the game says is partially true. You can solo the game. However, you will have an easier time if you have a thief to disarm traps and pick locks, fighter classes who can wear items that mages can't, bards for lore, clerics/druids for healing spells, etc.

You also miss out on experience without other NPCs, but since you don't having them snorking it up, well, no real need to worry about that, eh? ;)

It IS a big achievement to solo BG2, and I'd never dream of doing it. Congrats.

Hmmm, I thought the summoning limit was five?
Due to the use of cheesy clone's (Project Image - Simularcm) can you now get massive army's (BG I wand of summoning days :D )
,because the summoning limit does not count for summons created by clone's.

[add] Check the Spells Reference Site for specific details how this is done.

Eh, hardcore mode on D2 is only challenging in a few battles (Mephisto, Baal). The only bad thing about hardcore mode on d2 battle.net is the insane amount of PKers, who invite you into a group to, lure you outside of town, the murder you. luckily, my necromancers could run fast from those barbarians ;)

Just having a little fun, I took a sorcerer and faced Irenicus. I used the Console to bring him up and see how tough he was mage vs. mage. Not too bad, the only problem is, is that Detect Invisibility and True Sight doesn't dispel his illusions, you have to cast Dispel Magic. Weird thing is that out of all the spells I had, only Cone of Cold and Visions of Pain are the only ones that actually hurt him.

pcgiant 03-23-2003 06:58 PM

Visions of pain??

Gangrell 03-23-2003 07:09 PM

It's a spell from TDD.

pcgiant 03-23-2003 07:17 PM

Oh, OK. What does it do?

Gangrell 03-23-2003 07:19 PM

Spoilers...

Visions of Pain
Level: 6
Range: 30 yards
Casting time: 6
Duration: Special
Area of Effect: Target Selected
Saving Throw: vs. spells

This spell causes the caster to send horrific visions of death, torture and pain into the mind of the target. The target will have to save vs. spells or his soul will escape him, and he will fall to the floor as a soulless corpse. If the target does make a save, he will still lose 20 hit points due to the extreme level that his soul was pushed just to survive. Whether the target lives or dies, 5 hit points are gained by the caster to his max HP for 1 turn. The effect is cumulative.

SixOfSpades 03-23-2003 09:05 PM

So....it's a Level 6 spell that combines an enhanced Finger of Death with Larloch's Minor Drain, where Finger of Death itself is Level 7?

Gangrell 03-23-2003 09:16 PM

You're asking me?

pcgiant 03-24-2003 02:00 AM

I too was shocked. When you consider that level 6 is probably one of the worst levels for spells, this spell is too good. So, it does 20 damage and gives the caster +5 HP if the save is successful. Does the +5 HP stack? And it also has a chance to kill? In SoA, this spell would kill almost anything, especially when combined with Doom/Greater Malison.

Thorfinn 03-24-2003 02:54 AM

I was wondering if anyone had won playing solo without disabling the XP cap. I mean, 2.9 million was probably specifically selected so that the SoA opponents never met a 9th level spell. Even if the scripting language was robust enough, it is encountering situations outside its coding.

Reading the threads, I see recommendations of Improved Alacrity, Time Stop, yada, yada, Wish, but that sounds like at least three more 9th level spells than the opponents were designed for.

pcgiant 03-24-2003 03:09 AM

Yes, people have. See Elmonster's journal on Baldurdash for an example.
YES! Avatar change!

Dundee Slaytern 03-24-2003 09:15 AM

If you take ToB into account, a solo Sorcerer cannot handle every situation.

Technically yes, you can, but you have a better chance of simultaneously striking the lottery, have a beautiful girl/guy fall into your lap and have world peace.

This is simply because of... something known as the...

Aargh! Don't you guys get me started about Wild Magic surges! It took me fifteen minutes or so to regain control over my party... Pesky little mephits.
