From what I can decipher, and assuming my deduction is correct, you have misunderstood what the others have been talking about. What they are looking for is the Girdle of Frost Giant Strength, which is a component to make an unique weapon in the game.

Feel free to down as many Potions of Frost Giant Strength as you want.

jamalez 03-05-2003 11:48 PM

ooooooooooo that makes sense. well what does the Girdle of frost giant strenght create? is it any good?

BWUAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!?!?!??!?!!?!?!
Is it good????! Alas, I myself used to be uneducated in the ways of Crom Faeyr. Yes it is good. Ridiculously good. The girdle of Frost Giant Strength is a component needed to assemble a REALLY good hammer that can kill golems and ogres (and ettins? but i've never come across one of those) in one hit and raises your strength a LOT. Weild it well.

Decurion

P.S. I think it also does a few points of lightning damage that aren't mentioned in the desciption? I heard that somewhere.

jamalez 03-06-2003 12:00 AM

could you tell me what the other items where but not where they are located?

Thanks

firithwingion 03-06-2003 12:54 AM

The other items are the Gloves of ogre strength, the crom faeyr scroll, the hammer of thunderbolts, and the aforementioned girdle of frost giant strength. (take the items to cromwell to assemble in case you didn't know)

Yah, ShadowKeeper's description sez it does 5 "electrical" damage in addition to the base damage - well not literally lightning, but same thing

I've never understood why, in the description for the Hammer of Thunderbolts, it says that when the necessary components are merged, the weapon is capable of doing an additional +8 damage...?

Both done before you can assemble the hammer.

Seraph 03-06-2003 06:36 AM

Does the Paladin Stronghold HAVE to be done before chapter 6?

Tyrion 03-06-2003 08:33 AM

dosen't it instantly kill trolls too?

Annatar 03-06-2003 10:36 AM

To forge the all-mighty Crom Faeyr, you need the following recipe: (Spoilers)

*
- Hammer of Thunderbolts +3 (Can be found in the Illthid/Mind Flayer Lair in the Sewers of the the Temple District, it's in the fountain in the last chamber of the lair)
- Gauntlet's of Ogre Power (Can be found in the Planar Sphere, a halfling warrior named Entu carries it)
- Girdle of Frost Giant Strength (Can be found in the Underdark->Kuo-Toa Lair, sacrifice ritual to Demogorgon, 5 Demon Knights will spawn, the most South Demon Knight carries it)
- Crom Faeyr's True Name Scroll (Can be found in the Temple Ruins->Shade Lord Dungeon, Thaxll'ssyllia (Shadow Dragon) carries it)

Take all the componends to Cromwell (He can be found in the Docks District, look at your map), he will forge to Crom Faeyr for you.
*

Here are the stats of the Crom Faeyr:

Crom Faeyr

This is the true name that the dwarven weaponsmith, Silverblade, gave to the weapon he intended to create for his son. Alas, his son died before the weapon was ever completed, but here it stands complete... forged from the combined magic of the original hammer with the Gauntlets of Ogre Power and a Girdle of Frost Giant Strength. Crom Faeyr gifts its users with all the powers of the original Hammer of Thunderbolts, in addition to enormous strength and the ability to kill golems, ettins and trolls in one blow.

STATISTICS:

Special Abilities:
grants 25 Strength
kills Stone Golems, Clay Golems, Ettins and Trolls
Thac0: +5 bonus
Damage: 2D4 + 3 (adds +5 lightning Damage IIRC, isn't shown in the Description)
Damage type: crushing
Weight: 4
Speed Factor: 1
Proficiency Type: War Hammer
Type: 1-handed
Not Usable By:
Druid
Mage
Thief

For further Questions/Comments... just let me know ;) .

It is possible - you can still do the quests to find both of those.

You can still do the Umar Hills quest & the Windspear Hills quest (which gets you a key you need) after the Underdark.

the Shadow Dragon in the Temple Ruins part of the Umar Hills quest drops the True Name scroll & Tazok in the Windspear Hills quest drops a key you need to use in the NE part of the Temple District Sewers map (to open a secret door) that leads you to the Hammer of Thunderbolts.

Incidentally, it's been a *long* while since I plyed the PnP game, but didn't the Hammer of Thunderbolts have the characteristics of Crom Faeyr, minus the STR bonus, but mainly including the "Slays..." such-&-such on one hit? The HoTB was slightly underpowered compared to what I was expecting when I first found it (though CF was overpowered compared to what I was expecting, as well).
