I have killed the big orb with the rift device, and now I have taken the door that takes me back to the tombs where but the door at the bottom is locked - is there a key (i have looked but can't find it) or should I just back track?

also the orbs (Can't remember their names but the floating thing s with the eyes) what is the defence against their blasts?

Thanks for your help

They are called Beholders/Eye Tyrants.

When you leave the Beholder lair you should be able to take the shortcut to the Tombs with the door... IIRC there is a key you must have to go this way.. (not really sure though!)

The Cloak of Mirroring deflects the rays of the Beholders (the shield of Balduran will do the same thing).

[add] You should be able to open the door in the Beholder Lair without a key...

Just stand in front of it for a while, should open automatically after some time. Also, spellshield (lvl 5) has its uses when facing beholders.
Check out Alson's Spell reference (link located in Dundee's sticky-thread) for more info on spellhield and beholders

Lilandra_Fury 02-26-2003 09:02 AM

OH YEA BEHOLDERS that's it, I just blanked on the name as I was typing. Ok i wil try the spell as I do not have thew shield (throne of Bhaal i believe and its not available on the MAC ) and I have not gone to the Underdark yet (still in chapter 2 doing side quests - this is the first time I'm doing the cult Quest - correctly anyway) But i got through the quest with a few hits from the various beholders around the place but they are easy to kill if you can get close to them with a sword, I was just wondering fr future reference

Thanks

The Shield of Balduran can be bought by the: (Spoiler)
*Bonus Merchant (Patch) Deidre at the Adventure's Mart.*

Nothing to do with ToB so you see...and you can get it in Chapter one if you want.. ;)

It is possible ofcorse you can aquire it again in ToB, but I am not familiar with ToB.

Vedran 02-26-2003 12:48 PM

ToB adds bonus merchants.

At least it adds the girl, the boy must be spawned with the console.

Nope can't back track when I tried that it said the slope was too steep to climb out !

Anyone got ideas or is this the end of my game and I have to start again?

Annatar 02-26-2003 02:56 PM

Ermm... this is not the end of your game.. you can always teleport your group out of there, this is however cheating but it is legatimate when you encounter a bug you don't have control over...

However I'm unfamiliar with ''teleporting'', so you should ask someone else for the specific details how this can be done..

You have all the latest patches installed (SoA,ToB,Baldurash)?
If not, than that could be the answer because than it is probaly a bug that can be fixed by installing the latest patches...

teleport can anyone elaborate on this - is this using the teleport field spell?

Vedran 02-26-2003 03:30 PM

You actually climb the stairs, but the wall is up. And you cannot unlock it. And you only have to step on the trigger to open it. A bug?
Search for traps - I think that the trigger is trapped (if it is, disarm it). Just walk a bit down, towards the wall, and it will lower so you can pass.

If I am wrong, open the debug console. You can find the procedure of turning the console on here. Once you have it on, enter this line: CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("OpenSecretDoor","AR0202",1). I am quite positive that this would work. The line must be entered as it is (case sensitive), if you have trouble, you can copy it from this page and paste it in the console by pressing Ctrl+V.

Or just point on the other side and press Ctrl+J. This teleports currently selected party members to the cursor.

No, no, no. He wants you to use an in-game debugging option. That is what makes infinity such a great engine. I posted a possible solution in the post above. If it doesn't help, I'll give you a console command for moving to another area.

Glad to help.
By the way, isn't it Lilandra_Fury's problem? ;)

Hi

Thanks for all the help I can't get to this right now I have to get to work and all (got to make a living after all to keep on gaming) but I will get back to this tomorrow, this is a most annoying bug.

thanks everyone

SixOfSpades 02-26-2003 04:55 PM

About the door: I find that trying to open the door and pick the door are useless--but if you just stand there for about 3 seconds the door will vanish on its own. Weird.....

Lilandra_Fury 02-27-2003 09:05 AM

Well its a bug in the MAC version of the SOA, the door will not open, there is no hidden door opener or anything and I hung around for an hour in the same spot and the door stayed, I ended up enabling the in game cheats and teleporting my characters to the other side of the door, and the game continues! There had been no bugs before this (and i have played the game through - just never sompleted this quest) so I guess i had to get one sooner or later.

On a final sad note I have just found out there will be no MAC version of the throne of Bhaal - even though there had been romours about it for some time but Macplay has stated that the window of opportunity has passed - I think they could not be more wrong, I'm sure all MAC fans whom bought a version of SOA would buy the final chapter. Oh well, guess we will just have to be happy that we are got SOA in the first place and othew games are coming or have come to tyhe MAC all ready!

Vedran 02-27-2003 04:11 PM

Glad it helped!

You could buy a PC to play it. :D
Not so good investion, after all.

We will not get in to a MAC Vs PC debate here (the most pointless debateever as far as I'm concerned), I'm a graphic designer and the design industry runs on macs so I'd be buying it just for gameing - which would be kind of silly.

Usually I do not mind to much if a game does not come to the MAC but its was just that we have part 1 and 2 plus we have tales of the sword coast, why not the last one, all the engine work had already been done etc - it sound kind of silly to me, anyways we will survive! Its just that this is such a great game that I really was hoping for the whole story to come to Mac

Vedran 02-28-2003 09:06 AM

I meant that you buy PC not for gaming, but to play ToB. Even sillier, ain't it. I don't blame anyone for having a computer they like. I was just kidding, that's why I put " :D " smiley.
