Sir Goulum 02-24-2003 05:31 PM

Instead of a 'sequel' they could do a 'prequel'! Have it set during the Time of Troubles, so you could battle Bhall, and Cyric and all them! ...or is this just a stupid idea

Annatar 02-24-2003 05:33 PM

You want us to take it up against Highter Deity's (Gods)?

When was your last visit to the Doctor/Shrink.. :D ?

It's a nice idea, but how would that go... what would be the storyline ect.?

[add] During the Time of Troubles the Gods where Avatars, where they not? (making them mortal..)

The gods were mortal; Avatars.

I dunno how it would go, I just had some inspiration!
I already corrected myself luckely :D ... but still when they where in Avatar form, they where amazingly powerfull, because they are not to walk the earth again because they created havok and despair in there time as an Avatar (whiping away city's and millions of people)... so it would be a hell of a battle taking down an avatar like Cyric...

It sounds nice though to fight the gods (Avatars).
Also, what if you could team up with Elminster or Khelben 'Blackstaff'? Or Drizzt? This could actually be really cool...

Annatar 02-24-2003 05:57 PM

This is starting to look really cool '' Heeey! Drizzt get those Ogres over there... Elminster hurry up with those Skeleton Warriors because Cyric is keep smacking them to pulp...!! Volo? You stupid Bard! begin your War Songs!..'' real nice indeed ;) .

You know what I mean!

What if, also, you helped get the main char for Baldurs Gate I & 2 and Imoen from wherever Bhalls got them?

Tancred 02-24-2003 06:09 PM

That's a fun idea.

Suppose your character was a young Harper, apprenticed or otherwise attached to Gorion... determined to prove your worth to the organisation. You could

- Battle newly-awakened evils in the Sword Coast, uncovering the sinister and determined new Cult of Cyric
- Search out Zhentarim and their insane schemes as part of your apprenticeship
- Meet a young Khalid and Jahiera, perhaps even working with them - Against Baron Ployer's slave network, perhaps?
- Meet BG2 characters yet to rear their heads; the Harpers Galvarey and Dermin Courtierdale
- Tie up loose ends - like who was Rielev before you discovered his brain in a jar? How was your mother, Gorion's friend and lover, seduced into worshipping Bhaal?

And, eventually, you'd be caught up in the battle between the Harpers and the Bhaalite priesthood, ending up with the guardianship of a young infant girl, and with a long, perilous journey to safety ahead of you - finally answering the question of how Imoen ended up in Candlekeep?

Annatar 02-24-2003 06:12 PM

You kinda rescue them or something?... That could be nice... that you meet Gorion ect.

Also do not forget about Firkraag and his encounter with Gorion and his Harper friends... that should have been in the same time era I think.

This could be a great mod or an actual new game... that would be great :D

Dace De'Briago 02-24-2003 07:08 PM

The main problem with this otherwise amazing idea (and I really do think its good) is that there is no way D&D would licence the Forgotten Realms setting to Bioware or anyone else for a God war - it would contradict too many of their existing publications.

If anyone felt like developing this as a free mod (and it is a brilliant idea) feel free to

Dar'tanian 02-24-2003 07:20 PM

How about Bhaal is your evil sibling and at the showdown at the end of the game you kill him, but by killing him he becomes an official god(because he life on earth is over) and u are just his unknown brother that turned him into a god of murder. And like Tancred said your hunting him down to prove your wroth to harpers but dont fin out that he was your brother untill the final conversation. Much like with sarevok.

Hopefully im not an idoit it probably would never happen thoug itwould altar all of the D&D world.

Butterfingers 02-24-2003 07:26 PM

Big Problem.

Drizzt and Volo were not even a dirty thought in daddy's mind during the time of troubles.

Trau 02-24-2003 07:51 PM

Cyric, a mortal, slayed Papa Bhaal.

They were just examples, but you should somehow meet up with influencial people.

mmkay 02-24-2003 11:04 PM

or maybe you could have them meet some NPCs from the former late 80s early 90s D&D games like Pools of Darkness and the Savage Frontier series???

Trau 02-24-2003 11:23 PM

Actually, I'm pretty sure Drizz't would have been alive, depending on the race of your NPC. Your character was conceived during the Time of Trouble.

Drizzt is quite alive durring the time of troubles. I dont rememeber which one, but the Time of Troubles occures durring one of the books.

A lot of those sound really good, but let us not forget how easily we can get distracted by overindulging in certain characters popularity. After all, a big complaint with the Star Wars prequels was the unnecessary including of favorite characters' histories that didn't belong there just to sell move movie tickets. I honestly think the BG team would be much more creative and witty about how they'd impliment this than Mr Lucas, but still... It happened once.

I'm just sitting here hoping that no one suggests a comic relief character, like a clumsy minotaur that talks like a Jamacian with marbles in his mouth... *cringes at the memory of how another Prequel was ruined*

Personally tho I like the idea, I just wonder if it wouldn't be overkill on what the game makers already know we like.

Sorry Sir Goulum, but I came first with that idea.. Dunno if you read the thread about it, but it was posted some time ago.. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Yup, I found it.

It really looks as if you've read this thread and posted a new one, Sir Goulum, because my idea and 'yours' really look alike.

BTW, The Year of Shadows (the year of the Time of Troubles), was 1358 DR. The year of starting the BG1 - 1368 DR.

Yes, I had read your thread and contributed, but they *are* two seperate ideas, though similar in spots. Yours is a completely brand new sequel, but mine is just taking the Time of Troubles, and seeing if a prequel could work. Also, mine has no characters(NPC's) from BGII or I, save Elminster and Drizzt.

Come on Fellow Dutchie ;) .... it is not like you have Copyright over it (doens't happen to be that you created the story involving The Troubled Time's did you?).. Sir Goulum just used a little piece of your idea and partly worked it out with us.

As you see Sir Goulums/Your idea has some fans... ;)

[add] I see Sir Goulum has already pointed out what he exactly means...

I actually came up with that idea as well. Although the date on yours is older my idea is my idea without reading anyone elses, as is probaly Sir Goulums. I am quite sure many people came up with this idea has very few people think it should go forward further but would like a story about the past. I actually got the idea from Magic the Gathering were they did all these expansions than came out with newer expansions by doing the Urza's expansions and the brothers war.

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...c;f=1;t=003123

As well I went out and got a patent for the idea so now it is legally mine. Just Kidding!!!

Link 02-26-2003 04:48 AM

It's mine I tell you! Mine!!! Nah, I was just reading this thread, and I thought: hey, I thought of that too But Sir Goulum: this "Heart of Cormyr thing was posted by Avatar, not by me. He wanted that sequel thing, and my post was about something else (read closely!!)

Tancred 02-26-2003 08:04 AM

It's an old, good idea. I see to remember seeing a thread about sequels that turned to the possibility of a prequel, oh, a good seven or eight months ago now, perhaps?
