I've been reading posts on the board and I'm wondering how many (in game) days it take people to finish the game? Do most people do all quests, or is it a case of getting the money together to get to Spellhold quickly?

Alson 02-19-2003 09:01 AM

My average SoA game takes about 50 to 70 days, since i suffer from a basic flaw of BG2 perfectionists -- do all quests, garner every XP point. Fortunately, after quite a few games now, i no longer talk to each and every person in the map. :D

It depends on the kind of party you're playing with, as well... I'm currently soloing a solo blade, and it took me 45 (!) in-game days to get out of Irenicus' dungeon. Why, you ask? I overlooked the part that a single rest to get fully healed took 15 (!) days, so all of this time, Irenicus and Imoen were waiting for me outside to begin their little sketch. Hope they didn't catch a nasty cold. ;) And it also depends on the number of quests you want to do, of course. If you're playing really straightforward and don't do any quests that have nothing to do with the final plot, you could go through BG2 in a lot less time. I've heard about people finishing the game in 20 in-game days or something along those lines.

It often takes 40+, even though my party has the most wicked sleeping/resting habits. They decided to camp to underdark for 4 days and somehow nobody in the caves heard their storytelling and laughing, or smelled the smoke from the campfire. It seems to me that most of the monsters in BG are deaf anyway.

it depends if I do all the Quests... but most of the time it is 40 - 50 hours when I finish the game...

Hrmmm. One of my longest games took about 150 days.

Solo Skald. He had to rest a lot to get back much needed spells. He never really rested because he was injured, just because the magical tank was empty and needed a refill.

Rataxes 02-19-2003 10:54 AM

With my new party I am currently 48 days into the game and in Chapter 6. I've dealt with just about every major quest and encounter available in SoA + Tactics/Solaufein Mod, except for The Ritual, Watcher's Keep and Stronghold quests. I reckon I'll kill Irenicus before Day 60.

I never sleep more than 8 hours at a time. Healing potions, Rings of Regen, Draw Upon Holy Might, and Lay on Hands keeps my party healthy without the need to sleep.

They do get fatigued very often though, since I like to keep my party hasted at all times and have thus devoted Solaufein's entire Lvl 3 spellbook to Haste spells. Cumulative Fatigues will give you enormous penalties to your THAC0, so even though my party is rarely badly injured, I have to rest pretty often since my fighters can't hit a house from the inside after running out of Haste 4-5 times.

geez..... it stacks?
no wonder.... this explains a few weird situations.
(i to keep haste at all times)
preciate that.

Hmmm, since I downloaded TDD and ran and beat my most recent game, also going through Watcher's Keep, it took me about 95 days I think. Though this doesn't include the side quest of Trollford on TDD, with the patch doing that anyway. Don't know if this is good or bad, but I don't really care anyway.

First game was about 214 in-game days.. Later games were faster, I can tell you that..

Vedran 02-19-2003 05:49 PM

My current game is in its 184th day.

Aahhh, you mean INGAME!

:D :D :D

About 50-60 and 70-80 with ToB. Im currently playing a solo sorcerer and she used 15 days to get out of Irenicus Dungeon so I guess she has a quite long journey in front of her...

Grammar 02-19-2003 10:13 PM

I'm currently at around 22 days and doing chap3... Didn't do all the chap2 quests though.

that seems like quite a bit of time for a sorceror getting out of irenicus' dungeon...Did u by any chance forget about summons? :S when i played solo sorc it only took me about 3-4 :D

Yeah fatigue is pretty annoying. It works in more subtle ways too, which many people don't notice. As you become fatigued, your chance of scoring a critical miss increases, so even if you have a bitchin' THAC0 that can overcome the THAC0 penalties associated with fatigue, your swings are forced to miss. There is also an "anti-KAI" ability that starts to kick in, where each successful attack deals minimum damage!

As for game days for me, I tend to do all the quests too, including completing the stronghold quests. This can be mighty annoying if you're a fighter-type, since I usually end up spending weeks on end in the keep waiting for the next quest!!

I think 60-80 game days is a fair average to get to the end of hell, although my personal best was 30-something days, where I stormed through only doing the quests that were absolutely necessary.

Sir Goulum 02-20-2003 05:42 PM

My worst: 250 Days
My best: 70 Days

each time you rest two shadow thieves and some dogs will spawn. They go invincible and usually carry some annoying wands like, wand of paralyzation, or wand of fear etc. + Theres also a few shadow thieves running around in there. And the improved Ilyich..argh. Cast skulltraps, rest, cast more skulltraps, rest, cast more skulltraps, rest. Each time you rest you also have to battle the darn shadow thieves. And each time I rest wounded, I spend a day or two to recover :( . Well I finally got out of that hellhole and Im in Darnise Keep kicking some spirit trolls arse, which also is a pain in the ass. Kill two or tree trolls. Rest to get sunfire rememorized. Kill another two or three, do the same over again. Oh man... Cant wait till Abi Dhalzim...

</font>
Just a tip for your next run through Imp Ilyich. You don't have to fight the thieves, especially not if you're a sorcerer. A simple casting of Invisibility after resting in an isolated room should take care of them with minimum effort ;)

Dundee Slaytern 02-21-2003 12:13 PM

Alternatively, turn off the "Rest Until Fully-Healed" option and start abusing the mod. Kill an initial batch ASAP and grab their Potion(s) of Invisibility. Drink one and sleep. When you wake up, you are still invisible, and they cannot see you but you know where they are.

This is the time to casually cast a Skull Trap at their location.

Rinse and repeat. Stockpile a HOARD of Potions of Invisibility, kill hundreds of thieves if necessary or until you can carry no more. Hell, just kill them for the XP if you want to.

Oooo... did I mention that you can use theirs Wands too? As a Sorcerer, you most probably picked Identify as one of your spells. Use the Wands liberally or stockpile them too!

Nothing says cheese like lugging around more than 50 Potions of Invisibility.

Brennihelvete 02-21-2003 08:19 PM

Yeah their wands are great. I like turning them intos squirrels :)Never thought of the invisibility trick. Smart trick. I spent alot of uneccesary time fighting them thives :( . Next run should be easier then
