Hi I have done the following so far:-

I have encountered the so-called guardians of the
dungeon below.

I have been in the temple and looked at the alter and found nothing resembling the 1/2 rod, when I go back to the temple of Helm - they tell me I am not finished - I have beaten all the nasties down below....

What haven't I done.

When you entered the Temple, was there anything to fight?

After you defeat it, the avatar of the god should come and talk to you about the half rod.

Make sure you are visible when you enter the Temple, otherwise the sequence may not trigger

When you go 'downstairs' and when you get to that 'temple' place, go inside and cast a healing spell on the Demon there. Then, an Avatar will appear, and tell you some stuff. Ask for the part of the rift device, and you should get it.

all you have to do is go down there where gaal is, take his key to do his quest (he teleports away), attack one of his guards, then their god will appear, kill it (you dont need the rift device), gaal and a few guards will teleport in, kill them, loot the bodies, return to the surface [img]smile.gif[/img]

only then you miss out on the XP from half the quest (including repairing the rift device), some decent items (including bracers of dext.) and one of the 3 liches to complete the kangaxx quest. all good otherwise though.

Just to add my two cents, and to be just a little bit picky; it's the Empathic Manifestation (the Demon which they were talking about earlier)that you need to 'kill'. Now why is it called like that anyway?

Empathic = characterized by empathy (entering into the feelings of another)
Manifestation = display, exposure, expression

The "demon" is actually the expression of misguided faith or lack of faith of those people around the temple. They are feeding it with their hate and despair, so Amaunator is losing his power and waning.

Dazza, first off, you should Reload and try it again. Baldur's Gate is a big game, with the potential for lots of bugs--but sometimes things will work properly after you Reload.

Give us some background: Is Gaal dead? Is Sassar dead?

masteraleph, while you're mostly correct on your reasons why Xero's idea isn't a good one, I should note that that plan does NOT screw you out of the Kangaxx quest.

i take it the reload didnt work?

so they both still live
and u managed to kill the empathic manifestation by healing him to full health.
you have the official patch n the baldur fixpack installed to?

sounds like a bug, if it doesnt clear out i reckon cluaing amanoutor in would be your only option. either that or clua in the other part of the rift device, but youl wont receive the xp for that part of the quest i think.
maybe somebody else has other suggestions

First, reload.

If doesn't work, create another Empathic Manifestation
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("riftcr04")
and heal it to death.
Avatar should appear.

If doesn't work, set global:
CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("avatar","AR0203",0)
Avatar should appear (but Emp. Man. must be dead).

If doesn't work, create the Avatar
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("riftg03")
and hope that the quest procedes as it should.

BTW, the quest should unfold as follows (spoiler, select the text to read):

-go meet Gaal and he sends you to find the part of rod
-go meet Sassar who explains everything and asks you to bring the rod
-go left and down the stairs, you emerge into an impressive cave
-go right over the riddling bridge and up to the temple
-guardian should start the conversation and tell you some things
-enter the temple, heal the manifestation, talk to avatar who gives you half of the rod
-backtrack to Sassar . he will send you to talk to spy
-go back to sect area and talk to spy, give him a password and he shows you the way
-go down, kill undead and go right
-beholder area - go to far right, the part of rod is in the tunnel
-kill the Unseeing Eye, exit down, talk to Sassar, talk to avatar, go kill Gaal, go to the temple to get a reward</font>
