This has been brought up a few times. A missle specialist Kensai. With high strength, his Kensai bonuses, and, a decent missle weapon, he should be a master of casual disembowelment, at range.
I have put a lot of thought into this. I do not like how the Kensai is implemented in game, I have made my feelings known in other posts. The Kensai in SoA is a false Kensai, with no feeling of role play that is true to the Kensai's origin. So instead, I am going to make my own Kensai with his own story. Inspired by Mazzy, I am going to make a Halfling that is going to set out and try and get the tall folk to take the little folk seriously. After reading the discription of the Boomerang Dagger, and, how it was made by Halflings for Halflings, I decided daggers should be the primary weapon class. I also plan to use axes, mostly for Azure Edge and the other prized few throwers out there. (BTW, any good throwers in ToB axe wise? ) Strength should not be a problem. There are belts. I will have good saves. I have several fighter templates from BG1, of different races and slightly different characteristics. The one I have in mind is a Halfling by the name of Klessil Hedgecrawler, with simi decent stats. After completion of BG, he has 16/20/19/12/10/15 stats. He is reasonably brainy, has some strength, good dex, and great con. In BG1, he used Slings mostly, gaining 4 stars in them over time, as well as daggers for backup. (2 stars) He is also Lawfully Awfully Good. Planned skills will be Grandmastery in daggers, 2 stars in single weapon fightning style for those close up moments, and the rest of the skill points going into axes. Dual wielding is not much of an option, before some of you power gamer types say anything, as you can not dual wield throwing weapons. I suspect that he will become quite powerful, and, seeing as how subtly powerful daggers are to begin with, I expect to find out if they can really live up to full expectations. |
Sounds like a promising setup, Let Them Feel the WRATH of the LITTLE PEOPLE!?!??!
Cheers, Decurion |
I wonder Butterfingers if your halfling can stand up against my future soon to be famous GNOME BEZERKER!!!!!!!
|
Why fight when the little folks should work together?
Together, the kneecaps of Amn would feel our wrath! Midgets of Amn, unite! |
Going after knees with an archer? Seems less like a plot to kill and more like a plot to cripple everyone and make them see the world from your eye level, oh mighty midget kensai ;)
|
(SPOILER: Non-specific answer to the question, "BTW, any good throwers in ToB axe wise?")
Butterfingers: "BTW, any good throwers in ToB axe wise?" I don't recall the exact stats, but I *think* it can hit Demiliches. Korgan put it to very good use. ;) Butterfingers: "Midgets of Amn, unite!" MADNESS! This must be stopped! I call all Big Folk to SQUASH this insurrection now! Consider what ELSE this might inspire: "Noobers of Faerun, unite!" Besides, revolutions are passe. The most logical way to deal with Halflings' "height-envy" is to mass-produce stilts. And I'm not just saying this because just I invested 50,000 gp in Amn's stilt industry. I'm saying this because I don't want to be the only stupid-looking person striding through the Slums District on stilts. Did I mention stilts can put you out of reach of cutpurses? Stilts: They're Not Just For Peeking In Other Peoples' Windows Anymore™ -Lem |
i'll tell you what, i'd be scared of a halfling army
an entire race with shortman's disposition. all out to prove themselves and don't think they'll retreat. why do you think dwarves make such good fighters? halflings gotta look up to them |
Well, when requested Lemmy, My Missle Kensai can BECOME the missle, hurled by Minsc. In effect, becoming the deadliest thing in Amn, the Kensai Missle. Hurled at enemies, the damage is phenomenal. Think Daisy Cutter bombs, a flying projectile launching dozens of other projectiles while in flight.
Stilts are no longer an option as the Talls have secretly invested in Project Gopher. To many holes to cause to many injuries... I can't risk that. |

Well, out of Jon's Funhouse. Still fighting with whimpy +1 dagger found in there.
It is a boring time, but, one filled with potential. Using Kai shot, he killed one of the lesser clay golems awaiting in that little room in one shot kill style. Rolled a natural 20, did oodles of damage. Been rough going to be honest, no missles yet, and, a severe lack of armoring. Melee is just not his strong point yet, he plays a bit like a monk. Let him move in after others absorb the initial impact. Can not wear helms, really hoping game will let me wear Ioun stones. I think first stop will be Copper Coronet, to raise some cash, and, get Azure Edge. Then, after some further cash hunting, I think I might go for the gusto and rid the city of it's Liches right away, no sense farting around, I really want and need a certain ring and I need it now. |
There is a glitch with kensi and missle, they can use throwing axes ;)
|
Ok. Currently armed with Azure Edge and Boomerang Dagger. Still working on getting the One Ring. Must do the bloody Unseeing Eye Quest.
So far, not a whole lot to report. Still struggling. Need to gain more levels for more kit bonuses I think to really shine. It is quite possible to do 24 or so damage with Boomerang Dagger. Not to shabby, could be better I reckon. Up to three attacks a round, Kensai Halfling throws very quickly. Usually the first person to do anything in combat. Lich in the Bridge District went down hard and fast, got lucky, got my shot in before his spells could start flying. He failed his save. POOF! Pop goes the Lichy. Lich with Daystar went smoothly. I think I will be able to tag Kangaxx if I have a little bit of luck. Klessil is quick as the dickens. |

It says +4... And I seem to recall slaying Kangaxx with it before... I could be mistaken, and, somebody had the IMoD... Maybe I am getting cornfused in my old age.
Southern Dictionary. Cornfused: Condition. Usually brought on by a life time of heavy drinking, usually corn squeezings. |
The unmodded Azuredge is +3. The Item Upgrade-Azuredge is +4. ;)
|
Well, my game has no mods what so ever, (I can't use them) and it says +4.
Wait. Might be +4 damage is what I am thinking of. Crap. This is not a good day for my memory. |

Butterfingers: With Grandmastery in Daggers, you may have some difficulty against Clay Golems, especially when there's only one ranged Blunt weapon in all Faerun--and you can't use it.

Well, that's what other party members are for.
I have Klessil, Minsc, Jaheira, Aerie, and Jan at the moment. I might drop Minsc for Mazzy, I might not. Dunno yet. |
Jaheira? Aerie? Minsc?! Too tall for my liking! Taking Jan, Mazzy and Korgan along would fit better to your concept. The Wee Folk party! :D
|
Korgan is to evil, sorry. Jan is getting to the point where he barely tolerates us any more.
Besides, Minsc is a sword defender of the little folk. Talk to one of the many Halflings in the city with Minsc around. There is a great dialog that is bound to be triggered. |
Come ONE Come ALL (short people)!!!! Join the league of the FOUR-FOOT FIGHTERS!!! The most feared group of warriors ever to swing at waist LEVEL!!! :D
Woooo....I'd pay to see that, sorry. :D |
