IMHO I think someone should create a familiar mod that not only makes them more useful but more fun to have, maybe even a few quests available through them depending on what type of familiar you have. Almost like another pseudo member of the party.

Familiar romances anyone???

JK... my god that'd be scary.

Helm himself 02-11-2003 03:51 AM

You know that just might work! i agree that familiars are pretty much usless and that a mod might just be the way to liven things up a bit, but familiar romances?????? no way, thats just taking it a bit too far i'm thinking.

Mickeys_Elbow 02-11-2003 04:06 AM

I wasn't being serious ;p

Annatar 02-11-2003 08:48 AM

Maybe weimer could brew up something with that idea... because IMHO familiars are pretty much useless...

though its nice to have your own pet in the forgotten realms world.

But it is disappointing for a demigod to have lowly imps. Demons are what I'd like! Imagine you summon your pet Nabassu and say to him:"Please enter my backpack." :D Or send him to steal something.

Steal? Why bother? If I saw a demon coming my way Id drop everything and beg for dear mercy.

Well, good aligned familiars could romance Boo... Providing you summoned a female.

Also, in order to have the Boo Romance, the PC must romance Minsc.

I think that it'd be more likely that your familiar would find Boo to be a tasty little treat...

Boo, "Squeek!!! SQUEEK!!!"

"Sluuuurp!"

"Now what was that you said about being hungry?"

Tougher Familiars are definitely high on my list of Good Ideas to be included in some kind of Wizard MOD. They definitely require some souping-up, so that characters might even be tempted to let them out of their backpacks every once in a while. Perhaps, when the caster is of a high enough level, the Familiar cannot be truly killed: The PC does not suffer a CON penalty, the Familiar is simply forced to retreat to the Backpack and cannot be used again that day.

I'd also like to allow the characters to choose the Familiar they get, and not have it be determined solely by Alignment. Add in some extra choices, such as Rat, Wolf, Chicken, Dog, Eagle, Spider, Troll (the smaller one), Sparrow, Baby Wyvern, Leopard..... coolness. Oh, and Moose, too. Moose bites can be pretti nasti.

Druids and all Rangers should be allowed to have Familiars as well.

I'd stay away from the larger Demon avatars, simply because of the incogruity of toting around such a large beast in your backpack. I also don't like my Familiar to look cooler than me. :D Perhaps the Evil Familiars could have the ability to temporarily take the form of a Demon.

Stratos 02-12-2003 09:25 AM

I agree with SixOfSpades, but you should be able to name them as well. ;)

Incongruity. :D

Sorry, Annatar, if I have spoiled you. I am just erroneously assuming that everyone has ToB.

Level 31? I finished ToB at level 31 with my solo Sorcerer( Xp Cap). You should more or less be able to sneeze your way through ToB.

"I'm sorry, did I injure you? It was meant to kill you. Here, here, have another Skull Trap on the house."

hehehe I stopped using the solo sorc. for a while and also my home made party because I was feeling BG II wasn't a real challenge for me anymore... (read ''Cold Turkey'')

I'm thinkig of installing weimer's tactics mod... is it capable of running without ToB installed? (because if it is really bugged without it I will not install it I think though..)

because ive heard allot of the famous tactics mod so... maybe that can spicy up things in the BG II world... because my sorc. goes like ''poef poef.. '' and another pack of terrible vamps are gone pushing up the daisies...
