Where do you take the ankheg heads i have 2 and i have no idea where to take them or sell em cus i member in baldurs gate 1 u could turn em into armour couldnt u?

Olorin 02-07-2003 12:01 AM

Visit Cromwell in the Docks district

SpongeBobTheDestoyer 02-07-2003 01:23 AM

IMHO the armor that they make is useless. And then if you try to sell it you get less than what it cost to make it.

Vedran 02-07-2003 03:46 AM

However, it is useful for Viconia in early stages.

Radek 02-07-2003 08:16 AM

SpongeBobThe Destroyer is right. The best thing to do with the shells is to throw them away. You can take one shell to Cromwell to see why you have thrown the rest of them away :D

Brennihelvete 02-07-2003 11:17 AM

Pick up an ankheg shell, throw it at another ankheg and hope he dies. Or you could take it to cromwell and pay him 5000 gp to get an unenchanted armour with a lousy ac...

Butterfingers 02-07-2003 11:26 AM

Well, it is a full plate at half the weight. And, druids can wear it. It's not that bad for some classes.

LS0158 02-07-2003 11:32 AM

In the first BG it was useful, but due to the thousands of enchanted items compared to the three or four total in BG, it has lost its value.

indeed, in the BG II it has lost it's value because of all those great boosted up enchantend armors, but in Baldurs Gate is was a great armor that you could get in a pretty early stage of the game.

but in BG II it is worthless... trow it away and save those 5000 gp for something worthy

in the first BG, a longsword+2 would be a candidate for "most powerful item in the game". :D

A Longsword+2 plus a point of cold damage! Don't forget the cold damage!

I thinkt that was THEY most powerfull weapon in BG, accept Sarevoks sword (poisen blade ect) that wasn't avaible (only with the use of gatekeeper... not really sure though)

hmmsz getting off-topic here...

[EDIT] forgot about Drizzt his ''Smack the hell out of a Gnoll'' tools Icingdeath (Twinkle) and Frostbrand , those were like UBER items in the BG days [EDIT]

I played Bg and killed ankhegs galore. I've never ran into them in BG 2 where are they? And if u think about it using unenchanted armour means you can use rings of protection. Theres a pretty nice necklace of protection you get somewhere along the line that gives you bonuses to your saiving throughs. I think....

LS0158 02-07-2003 05:53 PM

I think ankheg armor is treated as magical, in the sense that you cannot wear protection items. Or at least it was in BG.

A +2 sword with +1 cold damage WOULD be the strongest weapon in BG that I can think of. Or it's the +3 two handed sword of berzerk, although the berzerk may disqualify it...

In BGII, it would need to be at least +4 with lots and lots of extra bonuses... like the extra damage from Ryomaru's harmless staff in IWDII. It had a total of about a 83% chance of doing something special. the 3% extra is made of 1% chance of doing acid damage to user, 1% chance of poisoning the user, and 1% chance of casting "slay living" on the target. the 80% was various 10% chances to do various types of things. Poison target, do extra bludgeoning damage, slashing, peircing, target has hold person cast on them, etc.

It is in BGII, but you can't keep it unless you edit the game.
Its carried by Cattie Brie (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) who is in Drizzts party.

It counts as magical for some odd reason.

Xero279 02-07-2003 06:34 PM

To Arias, they can be found in windspeer hills.

The armor made from them is good or some characters, but the dragon armor is much better

If you happen to have the Item Upgrade mod installed you can get your Ankheg Plate Mail upgraded into something that's about as good as the Red Dragon Plate; otherwise, I wouldn't mrss with it.

karlosovic 02-08-2003 03:58 AM

what class of armour does ankheg armour count as ? What kits can use it ? eg, thieves limited to leather amours, bards to chainmail etc. Isn't ankheg plate ? or can druids use it because it's not metal ?

Vedran 02-08-2003 05:25 AM

It's AC is the same as full pate has (AC1). But, weights only as a half of one.
It is made of ankheg's chitinous armor, which isn't metal, and thus druids can wear it (IIRC). Viconia (STR9) can also wear one. Rogues (thieves and bards) cannot use it.

I also encounterd some ankhegs in the Small Teeth Pass near the great lake there... I'm pretty sure about that though

Vedran 02-08-2003 02:45 PM

Yes, there are Ankhegs there, too.

Kaltia 02-09-2003 04:57 AM

My tanks keep dragon and gorgon's plate until ToB, where they both swapped for some kick-ass plate and full plate and Jaheira got lumped with the dragon armour :D

In BG1 it compared unfavorably with full plate in regards to protection.
It lacked several of the bonuses vs. specific types of dammage, I'm not if that carried over to BGII.
