Hello all, i'm just back from a game of BG2:SoA , doing it Solo, i'm in chapter six right now, just got out of the underdark, talked to the elves, and returned to Athkatla for some nice new goodies. Right now i'm on level: 32 , and my AC is -16 ... what's the highest level and AC you ever reached? (without the ToB add-on..) i just want to know if this could get any better
[edit] no drow plates, or cheats (apart from the exp cap remover) used [/edit] [ 02-04-2003, 06:14 PM: Message edited by: Tormentor ] |
My Blade can hit about -20ish or so AC (I don't remember the exact number) in a Defensive Spin.
|
i didn't mean the AC bonus you can throw/hit/roll, but the AC from your character...
|
No no no, his AC hits -20ish AC on the character display screen in a defensive spin.
|
well i was actually wondering about the 'regular' AC... if i turn into the slayer, my AC gets -18, but that doesn't count hehe...
cheers |
My best AC's were -22 with a Swashbuckler and -24 with a Blade. -24 is the AC ceiling btw.
It's actually possible for a swashbuckler to run around with a permament -24 AC!! The Blade can only reach these godly levels when using the defensive spin ability |
My soloing sorcerer made it to level 34 through BG2:SoA once, I believe... I didn't even care about my character's AC, though. It was simply not applicable. I don't think he was hit a single time after he'd reached level 18 or so. Why get your hands dirty if you've got enough summons to do your dirty work? Not to mention the painful arsenal of spells... ;)

Jim, I seem to have a cap of -25 AC. Anyway, that is what my Swashie reached with her top AC gear on. Though with my all-round equipment I *merely* had -23 AC
|
Yeah, well, I've reached -16 ac, so THERE!??!?! Beat that!
P.S. J/k, seriously though, those ACs are ridiculous. Also, what is the highest HP that you can get? |
The highest HP I've had is 366/366 with my Half-Orc Barbarian. True, he was going NUTS with Foebane at the time, but he still had a few more levels to earn. That's what having 25 CON will do for ya. ;)
|
how can you get 25 con? is that just a plus of half-orc barbs? or did you have item bonuses too....
On the edge of my seat, Decurion |
BG Saga Spoilers
~ ~ ~ ~ I need to know if there are any DEX tomes in BG1. Anyway... here we go. ;) Introducing the Swashbuckler, level 40, Elf, Evil. He starts life in BG1 with 19 DEX. Deck of Many Things, 20 DEX. Machine of Lum the Mad, 21 DEX. Nine Hells Wrath Test(Evil), 22 DEX. Big Metal Unit: -10 AC 22 DEX: -15 AC Nine Hells Selfish Test(Evil): -17 AC Kit Bonuses: -25 AC And I am just only getting started! Helm of Balduran: -26 AC Sentinel Shield: -31 AC Defender of Easthaven: -32 AC Ring of Gaxx: -34 AC Ring of Earth Control: -35 AC Cloak of the Sewers: -36 AC That is his BASE AC. It cannot be dispelled, and good luck trying to 'penalise' it. ;) I have not factored in Girdles of Bluntness/Piercing, Golden Girdle, Boots of Avoidance, etc... yet either. Boost him with Improved Invisibility, Chant, Defensive Harmony, etc... and the party will go on. ;) |

Excellent... notch down another point to the Potential Base AC then.
|
Just a couple of notes...
1) No difference between dexterity 21 and 23... each of these provides -5AC 2) The character needs to be a thief (good choice with the swashbuckler btw) because some of the stat bonuses apply only to the PRIMARY stat 3) Sacrifices need to be made along the way in the BG series, some of your other stats will be reduced at some point |
Ah dang... 24 DEX is the next breakthrough. Any idea on how to obtain that one more DEX point?
I purposely chose the Swashbuckler because it is the class that benefits the most and I am aware of the stat penalties. I already took them into account. |
Can thieves choose sword and shield proficiency?
|
Girdle of Glory knocks another 3 off the AC...
|
We could also use the Stiletto of Demarchess as a weapon [replaces Defender of Easthaven], which knocks a further 2 off the AC.
Then we could also equip the belt of cursed boots of phasing, for another 2 off the AC... This AC is going to be pretty low... [ 02-06-2003, 03:41 PM: Message edited by: Dace De'Briago ] |
Would be yes, if AC wasn't capped at -24/25 that is :(
|
Oh, and Dundee. It is possible to get that extra point of dexterity Armour class would remain the same though...
Might be worth doing if you are a thief and want the extra 5% to all your theif skills... |
You might also be able to sneak an Amulet of Protection+1 in there, depending on whether or not it conflicts with the Big Metal Unit. There's certainly no problem with the rest of the equipment you mentioned, Dundee.
For what it's worth, I've designed a Holy Buckler of Mask (only usable by Thieves), which I think is a Buckler+3 that grants (among other things) a +3 bonus to DEX. |
Stiletto of Demarchess does not grant an AC bonus.
Boots of Phasing is not a BG2 item. Girdle of Glory is a mod item. I know there is an Ioun Stone that grants +1 DEX, but I think the Helm of Balduran beats it flat. Sword and Shield Style grants an AC bonus versus missiles, not to your base AC. If the BMU is not considered magical, I would rather replace the Ring of Earth Control with the Ring of Protection +3, then wear an Amulet of Protection +1. Effective AC is capped, but do not forget about penalties. ;) Whether it be by Slow or whatsuch. Hence my comments of, "~~ and good luck trying to 'penalise' it. ~~". |
Disclaimer:
Be forewarned though. Even with -25 AC, you will find that it is still useless against the Bosses, as they generally have -20 THACO or better. -20 - (-25) = 5( number to match or beat on 1d20) It will rock against the usual fare of bad guys, but switch to a different setup when dealing with Bosses. |
my regular AC is now -18 , and i'm nearing lvl 40 ! hehe.. it's not fun anymore when you are a god... kangaxx was not that hard as well... just slayer change, and that's it!..
