THE 2nd EDITION OF THE GREAT, BIG, PAIN-IN-THE-BUTT, SHADOWS-OF-AMN TRIVIA QUIZ!!!

Since I know that none of us has anything better to do on a Friday night or this weekend, it's time to make you all hate me again. You will probably find this version substantially easier than the first Quiz, due to the expanded multiple-choice and true-false sections.....but note that I said easiER, not easy.

All of the questions herein have their answers contained within the game of Shadows of Amn itself, with the sole exception being the final question, which deals with Throne of Bhaal and is extra-credit anyway. This quiz assumes that
A) You have installed the official and BaldurDash patches, and
B) You will ignore ToB and any MODs you might have (such as Solaufein, etc).

Since this is a trivia quiz, all answers must be supplied out of your own head. I can't tell if you cheat, but you sure can.

All questions will state how many points are awarded for a correct answer, but some will allow you to earn additional points by explaining why you chose that answer. This was done most frequently in the True/False section, to discourage random guessing. These additional points are NOT extra-credit.

Don't cheese your answers: For instance, if I asked, "List all recruitable NPCs who can make themselves invisible in some manner, without resorting to a Ring or a Potion," and you replied with a list of every single recruitable NPC in the game, I will penalize you 1 point for every NPC that cannot Stealth, or cast Sanctuary, etc.

DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS BY REPLYING TO THIS THREAD. To do so would very quickly make this thread an extremely long read, and at the same time display your hard-thought-out answers for all the world to copy off you. Either send me your answers via a PM, or send me an Email at: sixospades@yahoo.com. I repeat, DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS BY REPLYING TO THIS THREAD.

quite hard indeed.
now, when can we expect the answers? (including explanation)

Raistlin Majere 02-01-2003 07:04 AM

That was about as hard as the first one, in my opinion. for some reason i have a bad feeling about this one though :( ...

Horatio 02-01-2003 08:03 AM

That was very hard...

Dundee Slaytern 02-01-2003 10:51 AM

/me bangs head on keyboard.

Annatar 02-01-2003 11:41 AM

Wejoooo I dont even wanna start making that one :D .... and people call this *easier* :( ...

Alson 02-01-2003 12:32 PM

Wow... What an effort. I [ think/hope ] i did fine. Section four was the hardest by far. :( The first quiz was certainly easier, though.

Kaltia 02-01-2003 01:25 PM

I am a self-proclaimed chinchilla!

Dundee Slaytern 02-01-2003 01:27 PM

Hmm? How can you call yourself a newbie when you registered over a year ago?

Anyway, I'll be sending in my answers by tomorrow. I'm too tired to think clearly now.

SixOfSpades 02-01-2003 06:54 PM

THE FIRST CROP OF ANSWERS:

Kaltia: Chinchilla
Ar-Cunin: Illasera
SpongeBobTheDestroyer: Sarevok
Raistlin Majere: Sarevok
Galadriel: Sarevok
Tancred: Yaga-Shura
Dundee Slaytern: Yaga-Shura
Alson: Sendai

Plenty of Sarevoks this time around....a nice change, considering that there weren't any after the first Quiz. Alson, you were only one point away from being an Imoen, but I don't know if telling you that will please you or just irritate you.

Alson said, in reference to the Underwater City question:
Quote:

Would have been tougher if we were to actually spell the names.
Now, people, I may be cruel, but there's no way that I'm THAT cruel. :D

A few people were worried about their answer to #18, the "There's a WHAT in their chicken" quest. Don't fret, you don't have to know the person's name: A clear indication of where they are is enough to prove that you're talking about the right person.

On the negative side of the balance, though: I noticed a few people were hurting their scores by listing too many quests in their response to #17 (the Reputation quests). I warned of this in my opening post: Listing wrong answers can cost you points.

Back on the positive side: 2 people have answered the ToB Extra Credit question with different work of literature than the one that would fit the most correct answer. This different work is, in fact, from the 19th Century, but only just barely, and from an author who was very much American, not European. Still, though, there is a reference to it in ToB (not as strong as the reference to the "correct" answer, but there nonetheless), so they did recieve partial credit.

Dundee: Take a chill pill after answering quizzes like this, OK? ;)

Six, what exactly are you looking for when you say "explain"?

In particular number 8.

Damn those were nasty! As for the naming the characters in the underwater city, there was only one name I was sure of :( . I think I kicked ass on the reputation question though, I got 11 quests I was sure of.

Tancred 02-03-2003 05:12 PM

Rataxes: Yaga-Shura
Sir Exxon: Yaga-Shura
Alson: Sendai
Jim: Imoen

Indemaijini, are you gonna send your completed answers back? ;)

Dundee, what's wrong with being a Yaga-Shura? I certainly liked him one heck of a lot better than Illasera or Sendai, or even Abazigal. At least Yaga had some real personality.

As far as the literature question goes, I have edited the Quiz post to show the number of points awarded for each reference.

On a more important note, however, I AM A DRACOLICH!!!! THE COOLEST AVATAR IN THE FORUMS IS ***MINE!!!*** HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! Now I just have to figure out a way to remain a Dracolich *permanently*.....Hey, the "Rules & Regulations" page states that flaming or excessive spamming can result in being penalized posts & rank....so after I jump up a notch, I'll kick myself back down! Sweet! :D

Sir Exxon 02-04-2003 07:56 AM

I became Yaga-Shura? And I was expecting no more than an Oris!

Rataxes 02-04-2003 10:30 AM

Eeekh! I honestly thought I'd do better than Yaga-Shura. :D I counted the answers I was mighty sure of, to at least a Sendai rank. Well, I'll do better next time!

I'll have to get around to beating ToB sometime soon as well. Never got further than the fire giant palace, thus had no clue about the last question :(

Also, how'd this get to page 2? *bump*

I am in awe of Jim. Oh well, he was one of the few people I expected to score high in this quiz. I mean... he bloody soloed a Kensai on Insane Difficulty through Improved Ilynich. This guy knows what he is doing.

LOL ah sheesh! You're trying to embarass me now aren't you! Seriously though, there's still loads of room for improvement. My score range cannot of exceeded something like 56-62% so I could have done loads better. As for being Imoen, I wanna be Sarevok...he's truly awesome, my favourite character in the BG series.

Yeah, I'm in the process of creating a post about the solo Kensai, it was a stressful time! Need to get some images sorted, so hopefully will have the post up by the weekend.

Sorry about the delayed response, but I had to go and check the location where Olorin said he found 666 gold pieces. Actually, Olorin, that particular container holds 6666 GP. Very impressive anyway--I gave you 3 out of 4 on that one.

Indemaijini, don't you answer your PMs? I am forced to assume that you don't want your extra points for explaining your answers, and I'm posting your score anyway. You could probably take the top spot if you sent in your justifications.

To Everybody: After thinking about it, I've decided that this quiz really isn't all that difficult. I say this because, if you put your heads together, you would get just about *everything* right. With the exception of the Literature question, every single question has been answered correctly, with an accuracy of 75-100%. Even the Reputation question was aced. Most of you know how to spell the fishy folk (when I don't).....and that one question that I thought *everybody* would miss? I was shocked at how many people knew it. Jan's middle name? Indemaijini knew it. The 666 gold pieces? Tancred got it.

(Hey, maybe that'll convince Aelia Jusa to try her skills on *this* quiz, too.)

And where the heck is pcgiant? He practically blew the first Quiz out of the water, why hasn't he spoken up on this one?

The correct answers will be posted after this thread goes ignored for 2 days straight. (Posts that bump the thread for the sole purpose of bumping the thread will be ignored.) I will also go back to the First Quiz's thread, and post the answers for that one, too, so *everyone* can relax.

(And then, I'll combine both Quizzes into one, toss in a couple of additional questions, and mail it to Weimer. :D )

Believe it or not, I only just noticed this thread. I can't understand why it had evaded me for over a week! Darker forces at work, perhaps?

I will do the quiz later on tonight if possible, my Grandfather has unexpectedly turned up and since I haven't seen him for years I am going to spend some time with him.

Quick comment: Six, you're a sucker for hidden easter eggs, aren't you?
