For me you ask!? Well I like being a thief and a ranger.

Theif why? Well they are the first class I actually tried out. Hiding picking locks and backstabbing backs is pretty fun and a little less than average fighter but overall da thief is coo!

Ranger why? Rangers especially and archer are the most fun. The are decent fighters and the archer oh he is so good he can shoot a flea of a hairy bear!

Now tell me yours I bet many of you are going to say cavaliers. Paladins goody goody two shoes boot lickin saving very good notty busters are too nice too good for my taste just too no no not good do this good thing yeahhhhhhhh

SecretMaster 01-22-2003 06:00 PM

Well mine is an odd combo, Thieves and Paladins.

Sneaking into homes, looting, its all so much fun, and helping people out is great, and you can have so much fun with a paladin.

Sir Goulum 01-22-2003 06:38 PM

Cleric/Mage

SomeGuy 01-22-2003 06:47 PM

Straight ranger. I dunno why i like them.I just think they are cool.

Sir Exxon 01-23-2003 09:06 AM

I prefer Paladins. I just love walking around in BG2, pretending to be a noble and fearsome Knight. And ofcourse, we have the thing that a Paladin is dedictaed to help others.

rhapsody407 01-23-2003 06:08 PM

monk. he needs not wear anything, and he can take out armies at high levels...the group of vampies in umar hills dungeon fell easily to a lvl 10 monk.

OH SCHNAP! this gives me an idea: party of 3

human monk
h/o barbarian
skald

heck, i bet they could take out the shadow dragon without pots or spells (other than barbarian rage)

hahah...(wtf? how did that not post...OH! my avatar changed)

your onto somethin there with the h/o barbarian rhapsody. Im playin a 4p party with a h/o barb main, and it seriously kicks ass.

My fav classes are Barbarian and Kensai.

Barbarian cause you can flip out and kill stuff really fast, and Kensai cause you kill stuff really super fast without even having to flip out. he he he

Gangrell 01-23-2003 07:09 PM

Hmm, tough question, I have a couple of favorites actually.

Monk. He may not be so great in the beginning levels, but once he cimbs the ladder, he's one of the baddest dudes in the game. Who else could take out the dragon in a single shot?

Sorcerer/Mage. Nothing real specific, just guys that can use magic, not including bards. I love using Horrid Wilting, or turning my enemies to stone and finishing them off with Meteor Swarm. I prefer this class mostly because of instead of bruit strength, you have to rely on strategy more than anything else.

Swashbuckler. So-so, but I choose this guy because in the higher levels, they get specialty traps and they're able to use Any Item at 24th level.

That's it.

Brennihelvete 01-23-2003 07:55 PM

Sorcerors. No its not because theyre a walking powerhouse of destruction, I just enjoy the fireworks they make!(seriously)

Montravant 01-23-2003 08:02 PM

My favorite classes are Sorcerers and Mages (any specialization).

rhapsody407 01-23-2003 08:32 PM

the swashy special trap: 2 q's...is it the same as the b/h special trap? and is it only for TOB, or for SOA as well?

Coats 01-23-2003 09:45 PM

I love Ranger's and bounty hunter's there both really cool!

Cheapy 01-23-2003 10:23 PM

Bard. Any special.

We fight, we bite, we cast, we're fast.

SpongeBobTheDestoyer 01-24-2003 12:18 AM

fighter/mage. Cast and slash, slash and cast.

Raistlin Majere 01-24-2003 10:11 AM

Assassin, Ranger, Mage are my top three followed closly by Fighter/mage or cleric

Calsiumus 01-24-2003 10:28 AM

A inqusitor... mostly becuz thats what Calsiumus is in my pnp game...

Butterfingers 01-24-2003 10:44 AM

Bards, Clerics, or Druids.

Nothing is better :D

McHaggis 01-24-2003 03:15 PM

Hmm.. Bards are one of my favourite. They can be very good fighters and they have also spell-casting ability, just wait until you can get Bladesinger mail to them..

And then comes probably paladins, especially cavalier. I have beaten the game once as a cavalier. In the end I was at level 25, I think. It was my first time through ToB and I enjoyed it very much.

Oh yes. And of course, fighter/mage/thief as a solo character.

SixOfSpades 01-24-2003 04:51 PM

Fighter/Thief, Thief/Mage, Ranger/Cleric.

LS0158 01-24-2003 05:20 PM

I have only been a fighter in the BG series, but I have heard a joke about how much fun/how much easier it is to be a fighter in D&D games.

DM: Problem X has arisen
Fighter: I hit it until it isn't a problem anymore.
DM: Problem X has been solved. Fighter gains X amt of experience.

Zarr 01-24-2003 05:30 PM

Dwarven beserker they rock!

Indemaijinj 01-24-2003 05:42 PM

Well, I don't know.

I feel really comfortable playing barbarians and berserkers, but it's usually my spellcasters who supply all the fun.

Imrahil 01-25-2003 02:00 AM

Definitely Thief/Mage for me - magic + decent fighting + stealth... whee!

Plus, with ToB, Use Any Item...

I've had a lot of fun with my recent 2 main characters in BG2, a dualed kensai/mage in a party and a fighter/mage/thief solo (although I think the kensai/mage would have gone well solo too).

I love having a bit of fighter mixed in there cause I love melee, but I like multiclassed fighters for the extra abilities you can have fun with. My solo F/M/T is being played as mostly a fighter/thief, but with robe of vecna and amulet of power... let's just say that instantly casting Death Fog is a great way to enter a room.

My current standard action for room clearing: (elven F/M/T, 13/13/15)
Equipment: dual wielding Flail of Ages and Dak'Kons Zerth Blade, robe of vecna, amulet of power, boots of speed/stealth , ring of preservation +2, sorcelean ring (last 3 are item upgrades), helm of balduran
battle prep = stoneskin, spell turning, haste.
Action:
1. hide, open door, run back before being spotted
2. hide again, move into position, cast fireball or other AoE damage spell, run back
3. Hide, run in, backstab most damaged mage (secondary on-hand weapon = Arbane)
4. swap back to FoA and proceed to kill everyone in melee.
5. (optional) for tough rooms, repeat steps 2 and/or 3 OR ...
6. retreat, cast death fog/cloudkill/ADHW, run out door, shut it and wait

with boots of speed and haste spell, you can lure enemies into nice groups before sprinting clear to blast nasty AoE spells (and with the robe and amulet, you don't waste time casting)

I've hardly used any summons at all, probably unusual for a part mage solo character, being really fast and stealthy has been my best tool.

Undead Hunter's are my faourite Paladin. They have immunity from Hold and Level Drain and since you can find only one item that protects from level drain (amulet of Power) and loads of ones that protect against charms and fear it is pretty easier. Not to mention they are good against Undead, wreak havoc with Carsomyr and are good priest spell casters they hae my vote.

karlosovic 01-25-2003 11:16 AM

actually I think there are many item which protect against level drain (one of the axes ? + whatever else). but I agree with you that Undead Hunter sounds the best Paladin on paper (and it's the only paladin I've tried)
