I am soloing with Assasain and Tactics Mod.I was wondering:if Kangaxx see invisibility then i cannot use backstabb. But if i use Protection from Undead then go in Shadows, can I backstabb him then?We are talking about Improved Kangaxx version here so just tell me please.

Thanx.

Your Assassin will have a very hard time vs Kangaxx. He can see the invisible and is frankly not vulnerable to any of the Assassin's strengths. I've tried poison against him but it rarely seems to work. Best bet would be to use a Protection from Magic Scroll and hope that you can kill him before his Mordies kill you.

His first form can be dealt with rather easily by just stacking traps though...

Assassin Cheese! Come in various flavours, but specialises in the Trap flavour!

Recipe:

Set two sets of traps in the musty tomb of Kangaxx, one set at his spawning spot, one set in a room corner. We recommend 3 Spike Traps for the first set, and 4 Spike Traps for the second set.

Poison your weapon, then summon Kangaxx and quickly rush to his spawning zone, positioning yourself behind him. Before he has a chance to speak, BACKSTAB him! Watch him go hostile and get impaled by the traps!

Listen non-chalantly about how more powerful he has become, then take out your Ring of the Ram and punt him to the second set of traps.

Voila! Less than a turn of combat, maximum profits of the highly enchanted Ring of Gaxx.

Not satisfied? Taste not to your liking? NEED STRONGER CHEESE?

No problem! Get the ability Use Any Item and use the Mace of Disruption +2 in conjunction with the scroll Protection from Undead( to be used only for the second form, not the first).

Proceed to play the game of, "How Many Times Can Kangaxx Make His Save Versus Death?".

LOL!

Great cheese tactics!

I shall have to try them out.

I prefer scrolls of protection v magic for this particular encounter. The prot v undead makes you stand around whacking the lich until it wears off and he decides to tell you that he's really a demi lich.

Magic protects against both forms, leaving them unable to hurt you. Of course, you've got to deal *massive* damage to actually get anywhere with him. I normally end up getting him to nearly dead when he panics and flies around the crypt. At this point he's too quick to actually catch - a few well placed traps will get him at that point without *quite* as much cheese as Dundee's suggestion.

Of course, the only reason for that is that I never got the hang of aiming the RotR

Aiming or Timing? RotR is a funny weapon. I've not done any serious research into it but it always seems to be the only offensive attack that will punch through the combat/spell protections of enemy mages, liches, vampires (bodhi) etc. This excludes area offensive spells.

For this reason, i always carry it around (two of them if i don't feel like roleplaying) as a backup weapon for those times when nothing else seems to work. As for the aiming, the only factor that should affect this is standard spell targeting issues (invis, sanctuary). Timing is the critical part. The bolt from the ring is painfully slow moving and usually requires a second thought as to when the perfect moment would be. After all, you've only got one shot.

Baros 01-11-2003 05:29 AM

It's more of a positioning thing. Everytime I've tried to use it the target flies off in a semi-random direction. (Watch that skull fly!!). I have the same problem aiming lightning bolts...

7 Spike Traps to handle the first form, read the scroll of Protection from Undead while he is rambling about how much more powerful you have made him, then play musical taps on his head with the Mace of Disruption.

Protection from Magic scrolls are very, very precious and should only be used as a last resort. Unless you use the clone trick of course.

Baros 01-11-2003 06:38 AM

The only two times I've ever needed to use prot v magic is Kangaxx and Twisted Rune (which kind of ruins that one as well!). If you don't think that Kangaxx is a "last resort" encounter then there's a problem! I have a habit of collecting loads of single use items (scrolls/potions/wands etc) and never using them "just in case" I really need them - I suppose I've started to learn my lesson.

I like to dual wield of MoD and StoneFire Axe for undead slaying

The mace of disruption is in the pool of blood in Bodhi's lair, so you can't get it until chapter 3. Also remember that it can be upgraded.

Not many, actually. I've just checked with Shadowkeeper, and Improved Kangaxx only has a save vs. death score of 8.

That's not the interesting part, however. His save vs. spells score is much more interesting. It's quite high, actually. 254, to be precise. :D

Heh... It's Shadowkeeper's fault, then.

I also noticed that 254 is too close to 256 - which is a significant number when it comes to computers. Shadowkeeper wraps the save vs. spells value (2, 1, 0, 255, 254, ...) - just like the Infinity Engine wraps when your pickpocketing score is too high... I'll bet pickpocketing will wrap at 256 or 255, too.

daan 01-11-2003 12:22 PM

Nice 1 Alson, IIRC 250 was about the highest score you could go with, using potions of thievery.. and 260 was too much. Which fits nicely to what you're saying.

Kangaxx is a formidable foe to a fresh player, but is merely a minor annoyance to those who are well aware of his weaknesses. Besides, when you have the Improved Battles and ToB, there are tougher battles.
