I was looking in the Graphics Library at the roleplaying Gifs and I started wondering about it.
What did you think was the most impressive looking monster in BG2 ?
(other than dragons)

For me it has to be Bone Golems
(incidently, I was looking at them in the shadow keeper creature browser and it says they are True Neutral... can this be right ? because it would mean no hit bonuses with The Equaliser)

Edit: on a hunch, I looked at all the golems in SoA & ToB and most appear to be true neutral except a few that are chaotic good.
(the hunch was they are brainless and have no personality, so they can't be either good OR evil, although it makes me wonder why there are some chaotic good ones)

Bone golems,

Iron/Adamantite golems.

Earth Elementals/Shambling mounds/Rillifane.

Sahuagin king/prince.

Bone Golems are very cool but so are the greater fire golems.

Harkoliar 01-06-2003 10:11 AM

i say gauth and beholder. being caught unaware with any of them is something i would not like (if you dont have the cloak of cheats or baldurans shield of course

The Slayer have always impressed me. But if that doesn't count as a monster, then I'd say the Bone Golem and Beholder & Gauth.

MInd flayers are cool. I also wish they would have did something a little better looking for the lich. I have always liked these monsters. But they look chessey IMO.

you guys are talking visually right ?

When I first saw the bone golem I was actually scared
I went like "F#*@% ! what is THAT ?! run away !"

Rapida 01-06-2003 11:12 AM

I like and dislike vampires cause they run around randomly and im usually invisible and i think they see me or something. plus i havent seen many monsters so id have to say for best looking Yaun-Ti(snake people) i guess. im not sure i havent seen much of monsters.

The Cloak of Mirroring is aka the Cloak of Cheese, not Cheats.

But then, so is Jaheira and all she does is give instructions

"You sound like you were dropped as a child..."
"or kicked"

That moment makes me laugh everytime.

I have to agree on the bone golem - they look scary and I didn't know what to expect from them.

Where is this graphics gallery?

Lichs are my favourite in a comedic way. How can you take their threats seriously when they walk like that? When they cast a spell they lean right over like they can't open the lid on a jam jar or something. When they walk it looks like their head is going to roll off. Then they go and obliterate you with some kick ass spell power!

Wyverns and Demon-Knights are the coolest looking baddies. Both look like they seriously mean business.

I agree with those people who say the bone golem looks incredible. I was scared also when i first laid my eyes on one of them.

Yanez 01-07-2003 12:18 PM

The most impressive to me are beholders. Bone golems are very scary when you see them for the first time, but I saw them before in IWD. There were called Bladed Skeletons, they were weaker, but still managed to beat up crap out of my 7-8th level party.

They're also in IWD2, and you can summon them with the animate dead spells! They're called Boneguards/Greater Boneguards. In fact, its these beauties that have made it possible for me to succeed on Heart of Fury mode.
you misunderstood, because they have no free will they are nuetral. they can only act on instructions given by thier creator and then take nothing else into account. making them nuetral
