my main character is a mage so i was wondering what a good team is for me,i just started Chapter 3 and currently have Jahira,Khalid,Imoen,Minsc and Dynhaier(only kept her because needed minsc and i want to get rid of her because i don't want two mages, waht i really need to know is what another good fighter characteris)
Thanks in advance!! |
Here is my old BG1 party that may give you some help or not:
Me - Ranger Minsc Yeslick - Fighter/Cleric Imoen Branwen Dynaheir * This gave me 3 fighters, 2 clerics, 2 mages, and thief. |
I have run up against the same problem, am now playing the game for the second time as a specialized mage. I am now at this stage:
Me (mage) Imoen Khalid Jaheira Ajantis I am considering taking Kivan as another fighter. Hope this helps... ------------------ http://faceweb-004.facelink.com/edit...72/4711972.jpg I am the great Kazara |
My party was
1) Me (mage) 2) Khalid 3) Jaheira 4) Branwen 5) Kivan 6) Imoen |
im playing an evil necromancer..
imoen sharteel-*highly recomended fighter. Viconia-cleric Kivan at this stage, lvl 2, all i think i need. thinking about collecting tiax when i find him. could have taken xzar and monty, but would have let xzar die and dump his corpse. for good parties, consider the dwarves.. they are very good. (yeslick or kagain) |
I think if Dynaheir dies you can boot her, w/o having Minsc leave. Not sure, though, save first. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif I would get Ajantis(area N of Friendly Arm) or Kivan(High Hedge). They are both good fighters. Personally, I hated Jaheira and Khalid, I would dump them, then you can get Branwen or Yeslick as a cleric, and Ajantis and Kivan. BTW, it is my opinion that two mages is good. just my opinion though.
2 fighters, 2 mages, 1 cleric, 1 theif is my ideal. ------------------ http://members.aol.com/lasttrueprinc...s/lioness1.jpg Sword Saint of the HADB Clan Waitress and entertainer at Cloudy's Cafe Lil' Angel :angelwings: |
instead of a 2nd mage i decided on a bard. They can cast spells and use bows/crossbows, particularly the light crossbow of speed.

I tend to agree with Lioness. Give Khalid and Jaheira the boot. They really aren't that good in BG. Ajantis is good, so is Kivan.
So, i would suggest this formation Minsc Kivan (if you want someone who is wicked with a bow) or Ajantis (more a melee type if you give him the gauntlets of dex) Branwyn Imoen You Dynaheir JR Damned i lost cousin Jan's techno gloves |
You can kill off Dynaheir and then remove her from your party and have Minsc stay with you. However, I've found in my latest game that several mages are VERY effective. Mine consists of:
Me - Mage/Thief Minsc - Ranger Ajantis - Paladin Edwin - Conjurer Xan - Enchanter Quayle - Illusionist/Cleric With the number of spells and Wands you can use, almost all enemies will melt out of your path. I have never had any serious trouble in a battle yet (even the big ones) and I'm in chapter 7. If you don't want that many mages then for your party I would recommend: You - Mage Minsc - Ranger Ajantis - Paladin Imoen - Thief Yeslick - Fighter/Cleric Kivan - Ranger This should be pretty effective, I had one very similar to this and I went through the whole game without too much difficulty. I hope you find this useful! -Jafin ------------------ http://members.aol.com/wolviejon/myh...gnature156.jpg Arch-Mage of the HADB Destroyer of the evil Bunnies Guardian of Boo and best friend of Minsc |
HOhoho
Did i hear a your looking for a good party 1)Me-mage conjurer 2)Kivan 3)Minsc 4)Afanis 5)Yeslick 6)Thief(forgot his name) Afanis and Thief? i hear you ask Well do you remember in the begining of the game in candlekeep you get a party to kill illusions, well there is a way to keep those characters. Afanis is the dwarven fighter his stats are all higher or equal to Kagain except for constitution which can be raised to 20 with that book you find. The Theif has very uncanny theifing abilities, sooooo good i would have him. And you get the wand of the heavens for free too. I love this trick, if you want to know how just ask. |

Personally, I tend to avoid mages altogether. My general technique is to have one guy with an incredible Armor Class run out in front and draw all the enemies' attention, while my happy cadre of archers pummels the crap out of all opposition. I do this almost ALL the time, and it works very well....but a Mage does not fit into it. Also, when you're far into the game and facing tougher monsters, you keep seeing "Save vs Spell" and "Magic Resistance" more and more often....with a party of archers, you don't need to worry about that.
That being said, however, Imoen kicks ass as a Mage, because she's the only NPC who can be Thief/Mage, and casting spells from Stealth can really kick ass. (Stealth really is way too powerful an ability in this game, they should have balanced it out more....like making more bad guys cast Invisibility Purge or something, or making it so you can only move at 1/2 your normal rate while in Stealth.) And she can still use the Eagle Bow, so she does fit into my archer party after all. Happy me. If you do want a Mage, I like Xan. He's the only one who's worth his salt in a melee (with his Moonblade, I commonly take him in toe-to-toe against gnolls), and I happen to like his attitude ("We're all DOOMED!"). So what if he can't cast Fireball or Lightning Bolt? What about all those wands you've been carrying around? Time to whip 'em out, bro. Of course, the same goes for Dynaheir, too: The only Enchantment spell I use a lot is Sleep, which she can use in Wand form. Only problem with her is she's proficient with missile weapons, but her DEX is only 13. So if you give her a sling, it's more to keep her from running up to the enemy than from actually hoping she'll hit them. ------------------ "How do you define 'fool?'" "I don't attempt to.
