Well as you know from my last topic i am playing The Tactics Mod with Tdd. My Party: Me-Conjurer or Necromancer Korgan Kivan Jan Viconia Something like this.Any help would be appriciated. </font> |
I am just completing a solo necromancer on hard with tactics mod and was pleased with the results.
The only drawback is that a necro can't use project image or simalucrum - but it hasn't been too much of a drawback as only three or four fights have been mutiple-reload type situations. |
Necromancer... the name sounds sick...
Who is Kivan? |
i have a necromancer since bg1. its great!! one of the main reasons why i got a necromancer is because of the skeleton summoning, it beats any beast the conjurer can cast in animal summoning plus those skeletons (once your in lvl 14) can be perfect monsters against mages since they have such high resistance.

Necromancers cannot use Illusion spells and Conjurers cannot use Divination spells. Normally I'd say a Necromancer is far better since a mage basically cannot survive without True Sight. But since both Jan and Viconia will be able to cast it, I think a Conjurer would be better. There are loads of very powerful and useful Illusion spells (Mass Invisibility, Project Image, Blur, Mirror Image, Simulacrum) . And even though you do have Jan, an expert illusionist, I think you'll have better use of two people who can cast Illusion spells, than three people who can cast True Sight.

I can live with out Illusion, but, I can't live with out Divination. Far Sight, Wizard Eye, Identify, True Sight, it's all good. Wizard Eye is the all powerful summon. Even Kangaxx just can't resist using all of his spells to toast the all powerful Wizard Eye.
Why, with out the Wizard Eye or Far Sight, how could a Mage look into the ladies bath house? Or peep into their romance interest's room to see what they are getting into early on? Let's face it, Conjurers are eunichs. Or prudes. What ever strikes you as being worse. Of course, that being said, Diviners are the ultimate perverts, as nothing can escape all the eyes they keep around. |

These are the two most powerful spells in the game, and Necromancers can't cast them. Quote:
You can use the Book of Infinite Spells to cast Farsight, and the Glasses of Identification to cast Idenify, x3 times per day. Wizard Eye was godly before ToB - it was immortal. With ToB installed, though, Wizard Eye is easily killed and thus loses from its effectiveness - scouting can be done by other means. [ 01-01-2003, 11:08 AM: Message edited by: Alson ] |
Conjurer is far better, since Project Image, Mislead and Simulacrum will make everything more or less a walkover, depending on how much you abuse them ;)
For summons, use Spider Spawn - this levels up as youi do, and Sword Spiders are wicked. And yes - scout with a thief that has the cloak of non-detection and a high high stealth score, and you can't go wrong. [ 01-01-2003, 02:39 PM: Message edited by: Bardan the Slayer ] |
Spoilers within...
. . . . . . . . . . . I am currently struggling with the improved Irenicus battle as a solo necromancer - the main problem is I run out of spells - even at level 38. Taking down the first five fragments is fairly simple with the right combinations - much thanks to those that suggested energy blades for the wraith - and the slayer form falls quickly to your own slayer form coupled with protection from magical weapons. But without project image and simalucrum, I have depleted all of my spells - and I have at least nine at every level and ten at some levels - by the time I face Irenicus, the shattered one. You can imagine my displeasure when the third Irenicus appears, my necromancer moves to cast a spell and finds he has two spells left, an extra spell trigger and true sight. Doh! Things would be much simpler if my limited wish worked properly, but it always seems to erase spells from memory, rather than adding them. For these reasons, as a soloist, a conjurer probably has the edge on a necromancer - though I would still choose the necromancer for roleplaying potential. In a party, the disadvantage is much less. |

Low wisdom = bad wish choices and effects. Of course, I could be wrong and it could be a bug |
It's not the wisdom - mine's 18 - and the spell has worked properly before. I think in the particular save game I'm beginning off of I have caught a bug somehow with the limited wish effect.

why not go for an illusionist then instead of a conjurer?
|
necromancer is the best... deals with death spells and undead...
|
Death spell is nice, but I have to agree that illusionist is the best specialist mage.
Leave undead handling to Clerics. |
