Muggers will try to attack a paladin in full platemail wielding Carsomyr? What in the heck must they be thinking? "Hey, that looks like a prime target, I hope that he doesn't know how to use that big freaking sword though"

Andrew Mcveigh 12-14-2002 03:02 AM

i do find it weird! i love getting mugged though, the battles are usually easy, and a lot of the time they have some cool junk on them. plus u can't complain about experience points!

debiler 12-16-2002 10:15 AM

Yeah, although SoA is the best game I have ever played on CPU, it's always these small things that I miss, for example:

- The paladin thing.
- Imagine you cast a fireball or some other freakin' powerful spell right into a bunch of goblins and they see half of their companions dying and frying, don't you expect them to run away or something?
- Thieving. The shopkeeper should be aware of someone who's just "looking", standing right next to that unsecured diamond upon the table in that dark corner where nobody would expect it to be stolen...
- Negotiations with potential enemies. !!!No way!!!

I'll think of some more...

I think it's only annoying. You're traveling from A to B, and then the journey gets interrupted by a bunch of soon to be dead muggers, who carry nothing else then a bunch of useless scrolls.

That's why they made the improved-encounters Mod A lot better

Well, there is something called "morale": If a creature (even party member) sees a powerful foe, many of his allies killed or stg else, he gots "morale failure" - his circle turnes yellow, and he randomly:
-runs,
-attacks everybody,
-panicks (combination of the two).

He is. This is why you get "pickpocketing failed" message. As your PickPocket skill grows, so grows your ability to avoid that awareness.
Morale failure only works when the crature's health points are almost nil. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thieving: my point is, that the most expensive items just lie around and you don't even get an eye of the storekeep. They just gotta be clever enough to lock 'em up somehow. And come on, even if your thieving skills are great, sooner or later even a dumb nut would realize that the mighty sorcerer's staff +666 is gone.

Exactly!
It's a whole new game, now...

No pun intended. :D

Well, you are wrong.
In BG1, when fighting large groups of kobolds, tasloi, xvarts, after you kill half of them, the others got morale failure and turn yellow. Same thing happens in BG2 as well.

Dundee Slaytern 12-17-2002 03:39 PM

Rest assured, there are Morale Failures in BG2. What can I say? I like to poke my enemies... ...

DJG 12-17-2002 05:07 PM

Well, I prefer to use "Symbol Fear" to invoke morale failures rather than waiting, or even better "Symbol Stun". It has the exact same specifications except you get a still target rather than one that runs about.....

Alright, I know it would "unbalance" the game....but I do have a pet peeve about the shopkeeps.

If I go into a store selling all kinds of goodies and just decide to kill the shopkeeper....doesn't it make sense that I would then be able to plunder his shop at my leisure (assuming there were no witnesses).

In BGII, when I killed off the rival Thieves Guild...I would have LOVED an opportunity to crack open the safe behind the front counter....there were lots of gems and other items that could have been sold for more gold....but I defeat the entire guild only to find their inventory has mysteriously disappeared. Bardan the Slayer 12-18-2002 12:07 AM

Maybe the shopkeepers *have* no inventory, and just operate some kind of instantaneous mail-order system?

"I'll have a Warblade +4, a Stonefire +3, lrge fries and a coke please"

"Please drive to the next window sir, and your assorted wargear and refreshments will be waiting for you"

Angelousss 12-18-2002 12:15 AM

lol bardan

actually i think those muggers are one of the funniest things in the game.
hey see those guys carrying the shining weapons and perfect armor, who look alot like the heros of trademeet and those guys who slaughtered the slavery ring, rather than some rich nobleman let's attack them.

Amn must have Fae run's dumbest criminals

LOL!!! So true...

Sazerac 12-18-2002 01:33 PM

I don't think the "Morale Failure" thing was implemented properly in BG2. It definitely works in both BG1 and IWD...after you kill a certain number of a crowd of monsters, the others start getting the "yellow circle" syndrome. ;)

Of course, I've never really seen a "crowd of monsters", per se, in BG2... the largest group I ever had to face at any one time was about 6 or 7. A far cry from the 10-20's you'd get in IWD/HoW.

Bill26 12-18-2002 04:26 PM

I have had monsters turn yellow when they get hurt, but mostly early in the game. Hobgoblins under Copper Coronet. I have also had members of my party fail morale check, though not frequently.

Indemaijinj 12-18-2002 04:41 PM

The one who have most frequently chickened out for me is Anomen.

BTW, if you have a cleric or a paladin there is really no good excuse for not prepping your party with Remove Fear.

karlosovic 12-18-2002 11:11 PM

I do find it annoying when those crappy thugs etc decide to take on a party that waayyy over-powers them but...

***Spoiler****

What is that quest you do in ToB where you encounter the young adventurers who think they can 'take' you ? somewhere in the dragons lair ? I thought that was hilarious how they're psyching themselves up and stuff, then when you casually swat them, they re-load and take the other option, ie. talk to you and do everything you tell them to. lol

anyway, maybe all the muggers and thugs are just like that ? overconfident. I know I've (saved first) tried to have a go at some of those groups you find at an inn sometimes that will decimate you early on in the game, but aren't too much of a problem later on.
