Odd. Some potions have effects similar to that, but they are only temporary. In that case, resting again should clear it. On the INT score, have you been fighting Mind Flayers? Again, resting will cure that.

Other than that, some cursed item perhaps?

Yeah, but I must admit I think that is quite a good bug if you are a Ranger. High Wisdom and Charisma which you can use for low intelligence which you wont seems like a good bug.

However if you are a Sorceror, it changes slightly!
Nope. Srocs need WIS (for Wish) and CHA (which is there spellcasting stat, although it has no actual effect in BG2. Also good for shopping). INT is useless to them. Weird I know, but thats the way it is.
Try fighting mindflayers with that much INT. . For them ONLY, higher INT is desirable no matter what you are.

If your sorceror is meleeing illithids, then he's dead already, no matter how much INT he has.

Incorrect, in fact I would prefer to use a sorceror over a fighter in melee combat with illithid. Why?

Fighters always have a chance of being hit, except through special equipment. Sorcerors, with the right spells, can avoid being hit altogether (or hit, to no real effect).

By the way, (anal-retentive me) the plural of illithid is illithid, not illithids.

Your sorceror would have to have low INT in order to melee illithid. An intelligent sorc would get minions to do the job for him.
