When naming your main character do you have a name that you always use?
Or do you have different names for different classes?

Myself if my character is a thief or bard they are named Shadow,
Warriors and all mainly combat orientated classes - Gromon,
Archer - Legolas.

Karse Soze 11-10-2002 04:26 AM

I always try to come up with new names that sounds suitable for the race and class. An example would be (my IWDII party)

Deep Gnome / fighter: Haldur Crimsbottom
Human / Barbarian: Dalf Longbane
Asimar / priestess: Lie'l Dormbringer
Thiefling / Thief: Fikk'e Fundelbinder
Human / Sorcerer: Ka'eena Dullblossom
Human(german) / Wizard: Ardan Krielweizer

And sometimes I go for the more obvious:

Fighter: Aewill Smak'urskullin
Thief: Pikjuer Pokets

I now it's stupid. But it's kinda fun. At least for the few seconds it takes to come up with them

Throrgrim 11-10-2002 04:29 AM

Dwarven Fighter/Barbarian: Stumpy Hilltrotter
Mage : Saureth
Ranger: Calerian Pathfinder
other than that i dont have set names!!

LennonCook 11-10-2002 04:37 AM

I`ve been know to use:
Malinan
Iffnosi
Quitzin (current game)
Quenya
Killiop
And alot, lot, lot, lot, lot more. :D

Gypsey 11-10-2002 04:48 AM

Currenty I'm playing a half-elf female mage/cleric called Panthera. And I've also played a half-elf male fighter thief called Psylan. (Yeah, I like half-elves.) I have a thing for interesting names, so I'm gonna try to come up with a new one every time I play.

DrakenKorin 11-10-2002 06:14 AM

I generally play different characters, most culled from past roleplays.

A few notables:

Salis -- your standard sorceror

Timothy -- failed attempt at a swashbuckler, got his ass handed to him by the ascension mod's final fight.

Nex -- Kensai, currently playing.

9_1_6 11-10-2002 07:10 AM

Anubis <--- Druid...
Playing him in NWN and BG2

Telchar of Nogrod 11-10-2002 08:22 AM

Naming your character is one of the coolest parts of the game. You want a name you are proud of. You don't want to go halfway through and say "This name really sucks." Most of the time I use names from my favorite fiction and sometimes from history.

Right now I have -
Human Inquisiter - Thrasson - from a Planescape novel
Human dual classed Beserker/Cleric - Barahir - The Silmarillion, Tolkien
Human Necromancer - Sauron - Tolkien
Elf Sorcerer - Artus of the Planes - Blood Wars Trilogy - Planescape novel
Elf Archer - Beleg Strongbow - Silmarillion
Elf Swashbuckler - Jandau - Blood Wars Trilogy

Others - Durin the Deathless, dwarf - Galgamesh - Dain Ironfoot, dwarf - Ecthelion, usually Paladin - Elric - Alatar the Blue, mage - Celebrimbor - Corum Jhaelen - Turin Turambar - Idril Celebrindal, female - Celebrian, female - Calimehtar - and many more.

At first my character (male or female) was always Jinx, but I grew bored to it. now it is usually the characters class backwards or something from the character creation menu turned backwards.Sometimes something from LOTR.
Now my characters is called Recnamorcen,Nanya,Ajnin,Feiht and Elnacc. I play many different games at the same time as you can see, good reason:when I grow bored to one,I can switch it without having to start over.

Lord Starshadow 11-11-2002 02:49 AM

My characters names depend on their race and class (and gender of course). In my main game (which is my first time through BTW) for example, I have a Swashbuckler named Starshadow. I created an assassin and I named him Deathshadow. So my thieves have names with 'shadow' in them. I like to use combo words for my elven characters (as the thieves were); for example, I have Windstar, a male Wizard Slayer. Everyone else, I make up names for, just random stuff I put together. There's a female Cavalier named Cyreina (pronounced: sigh-ray-nah), a female Fighter named Isha, a female Archer named Iliana, etc...

I really like making new characters, and once I finish the game with my first party, I'll finally get around to experimenting with them.

Conan the Destroyer 11-11-2002 01:13 PM

I have been known to pull names from European Hockey players. In BG1, I played a dwarf cleric by the name of Hakaan Loob.

In my current BG2 campaign, I am playing a ranger with the name Esa Tikkanen.

Alson 11-11-2002 03:16 PM

Maximus, Human Male Cavalier - "Humble, Just, Lawful and Good Willed". Inspired by the movie "Gladiator".

Mephisto, Human Male Anti Paladin - "Cold Hearted, Calculated Power Freak". Inspired by Diablo 2.

Alson, Half Elven Ranger/Cleric - "The Religious Ranger". The first time i completed the game.

Pullus Cor, Human Blade - "Dark Heart".

Taurus, Human Monk - "Fists of Fury". :D

And many, many, many Test characters, required for testing spells for the Spell Reference. May they rest in peace.

True_Moose 11-11-2002 03:19 PM

Amedyr 11-11-2002 08:17 PM

I tend to play the fist time with a random name (I have a random name generator, heh! It dates back to the days when we had a butcher as a Game Master, and character creation was daily routine... -_- ), just to get the hang of things.
Then I have some default characters that I adapt to each game:

Sarah, my kick-ass character. She's my game alter-ego, usually a fighter with some kind of magic power (fighter-mage, in BG)

Amedyr, a red-head elven magic user.

Blaid, a brunette human pirate. The list goes on and on, but these are the most common.

Right now I'm starting a game with a male character named Alain. He's a character from a shonen-ai I'm writing (long story)... let's say I wanna see how the Sola mod is going to behave... )

Lord Lothar 11-11-2002 08:23 PM

Lord Lothar - Solo Cavalier (WarCraft 2)
Orgrim Doomhammer - Half Orc Beserker (WarCraft 2)
Krogthar the Insane - 2 Barbarians (random thought)
Salman - Almost every other person that I have made. (Hey, it works for me )

Sodomatic Goat 11-12-2002 02:41 AM

ronan 11-12-2002 06:50 AM

One of the easiest ways of finding names for characters is to use surnames from real life. At lot of pro writers use this method. I prefer to name mine after Polish rock bands circa 1974 - 1985

I usually just make something out. Or I may alter names of book characters. Here's couple of what I have used (or are being used):

Ermon Steelfist (Monk, human)
Elthas Athlin (Bard, elf (cheated to get elven bard , but hey, nobody's perfect :D ))
Jales Ahqinth (Sorcerer, elf)

Probably more but cant't think anything else right now..

D*Ranged 11-12-2002 05:13 PM

I named my F/M character Eleina, I just took cue from iceguards from Warlords Battlecry 2 .

Currently a half-elf conjurer named Tintagel. I got that name from one of R.A Salvatore's books.
