I am considering doing my first solo, but i have some questions, like kind of gear would be best, what my attributes would be, etc. Also, is it reccomended to remove the xp cap? i guess it would be easiest if someone could just give me a link to a guide or something.

Thanks

There's good info on solo sorc's at

And of course...kudos to Dundee ;)

I'm currently soloing a sorc, and they're a little tough at the beginning, but once you get the death spell you become nigh-unstoppable ;)

Can anyone give me pointers for the frickin Astral Prison first battle. I keep getting stunned then getting my butt handed to me. I'm lvl 12, and I decided to do the Unseeing Eye in the meantime, but pointers would be good...plz? :D

What are you doing there at lvl12?? Its dangerous, you know...

One advice comes to my mind: summon lots of spiders. Have your Mirror Images on (Yan-Ti will cast a FoD or ADHW), use skull traps (do not fear to hurt the dwarf - it doesn't make difference).

The initial tactics would be to cast a skull trap into the crowd as soon as you portal in there. Go invis, and the battle will not start until you reveal yourself. Try to disrupt Yan-Ti's True Sight to keep your MI's on. Do try to get the boots early and run in circles while waiting for a round to pass.

Archers use arrows of ice, they will damage you, but they have 5-6 of 'em each, so provide them with a target. Soon they will run out of arrows, and will be of no threat to you.

If you have the Robe Of Vecna, the chance of disruption of your spells will greatly decrease consider buying it beforehand.

That has to work...

Level 12 be a low level to do the Planar Prison. I usually go there when I am level 15. Tradesmeet should be the first major subquest a solo Sorcerer does, as it will accelerate his levelling up with little to no resistance.

This is then followed by De'Arnise Keep, where you can kick the Trolls around using the Web + Spider Spawn combo.

Of course, prior to these quests, you should have settled the following mini-quests. Circus Tent, Mencar Pebblecrusher, The Paladin & the Orphan, The Ghost Child & his Teddy-Bear, Uncle Lester, Graverobbers, Copper Coronet, Lilarcor, Slaver Ship, Docks District Pirates, Mimic Blood in Umar Hills, Swords & Ale for the Boys, Investigating Merella's Cabin, etc... This is just a small sample of easy quests that you do to get to the crucial level 15. The point where you can stop skulking around, and actually start to fight the Cowled Wizards and then some.

A Sorcerer's turning points are at level,...

08: Stoneskins
09: Web + Spider Spawn
12: Death Spell
14: Project Image
15: Animate Dead:Skeleton Warriors + Mordenkainen's Sword
18: Time Stop + Improved Alacrity + Ruby Ray of Reversal

Not that I know of.

I would not be surprised if the guys at Bioware asked Dundee on advices on how to play a sorcerer... ;)

Hey Dundee, is there ANYTHING you don't know about sorcerers? Come on, admit it.. you are actually the guy who added the sorcerers in the game, right? I knew it! You are a dev! ;)

I deny everything!

ADD] Seriously though, I have been a fanboy of spellcasters for as long as I can remember.

Thank you all for your help

Edit: Also, if I intend to play through ToB, is it reccomended to remove the XP cap? Also i know i need the staff of the magi, but where do you get it?

Standard remove the EXP cap. A solo sorc hits the SoA cap in the Underdark and I dont know about ToB, but I bet ya its soon. At the end of Soa you have around 7,000,000 EXP so yeah, removeit

~In the docks district, next to the door where the elemental lich is (all the way downunder) use a rogue stone to teleport through the door. Youll engage the Twisted Rune in a battle for it.

Dundee Slaytern 11-04-2002 11:49 PM

I do not use Xp Cap removers. ;) ToB is all the Xp I need. 8,000,000 Xp be a lot already.

Zuvio 11-05-2002 05:40 AM

Yeah, anything beyond lvl 31 is complete overkill, but its nice to have those last two spells. Its the last step away of becoming a deity or deva. :D
