Can I still join?
 

After finally completing HotU (after 8 years), I want to give this a try...

Since I've never played this online before, could someone tell me how is it like regarding pvp? If I understand it correctly, you don't play against others, each one does quests separately by himself? And I just quit anytime and come back to wherever I left my character?

Do a lot of people still play this?

Regarding PvP, there are, or were, arenas for that. The server itself is no PvP, so you don't have to worry about being engaged with enemies and a player coming up and nuking you. I've been on a couple of times the last day or so, and it's pretty empty, which is ok for just goofing off. At it's peak, it was pretty busy sometimes, and pretty empty other times. However, yeah, you can do a lot of stuff on your own, especially now that it's local vault, so your char that just finished the games can be exported from there, and used. I'm thinking I much prefered server vault though, as it keeps the number of chars I have with the same name to a minimum, and I don't accidently log the wrong one in.

Started my game.

This might be a stupid question, but whenever I leave I always come back to Yawning Portal? No way to save character anywhere else?

Also, whenever I quit, a new character gets saved. Is it possible to overwrite same character without having a zillion ones on the list?

Also, everything gets reset when I rejoin (quests and so on)? I was slightly annoyed to find my henchman reset and without all the items I bought him... until I realized I can rebuy 5 times as much after clearing out the basement.

Going to explore Waterdeep, then first level of Undermountain.

By the way Ziroc, wow! Excellent job. I'm really amazed you've done all of this yourself, (and I still haven't see much).

If the server is empty, it will reset when you log out.

Oh I see.

I wish now I joined this earlier... kept putting it off telling myself I'll join sometime, and now when I finally did it's empty.. :(

I'm in and out, at odd times since I reinstalled all the stuff. Revisiting an old favorite of mine, Mebrinde Kelven. If I see you, I'll give you a shout out. I'd offer to tour guide, but I find myself getting lost all the time. It's been a while since I've been in, for one, and my memory isn't what it used to be anyway.

Thanks, a question then all those locked doors in Waterdeep, can they be opened? Do I need the Open Lock skill? I can't seem to bash anything, even with elemental damage, and having a thief henchman is a pain if I'm going to have to re-equip him every time I log in...

99% of them are locked because they don't go anywhere, the ones that do aren't locked. Look for map pins, or signs that light up when you push tab to know which ones are good. Be careful of some of the sewer entrances, as some of the residents aren't lowbie friendly.

What about the money lender which is locked? Is anyone there? And the large castle?

Now you're starting to make me have to remember things, and I think at one time you could hit a money lender, and I simply have no clue about the castle, although I seem to recall...Yes, they say memory is the first thing to go, and in my case, it's been in Hawaii, for a few years now.

Mirt the Moneylender can be reached from the secret door in the Yawning Portal -- but I need to connect the exit to a house in Waterdeep still. I'll update it very soon, just getting ready to move a PC to Windows 7 Pro... (Think XP mode will work with the toolset), if not, I have an old system that can handle it.

Still have a fractured wrist, but with no cast. lol.. gotta stop smoking before they will do a bone graph on it.. just slows down my work on things.. and begins to hurt if I work on the mouse too long... ugh. :)

Next update is VERY soon, and I also plan on updating Skullport's Merchants, and much more.. a few bugs and some new areas to check out I've been working on for some time.
I'll keep you all updated on it!!

Where is the secret door to the money lender from the inn?

On the second floor of the Yawning Portal Inn, there's an open door to a bedroom at the far corner, and it has gold on the floor. there's a secret door that will appear if you have a good spot skill. It's low, so you should see it easy.

Take the stairs down, and run down the hallway.. there are two diff mansions to enter.. Khelben Blackstaff's tower, and Mirt the Moneylender's mansion.

I want back into the game!!! I have been away so long and it is so hard to change things around to make time. I think I need to reload all my disks...I think I had a HDD change since the last time I've played. I remember bits and pieces...I remember my favorite hang out was the island. I hope the island is still there!

Ah yes, the Haunted Isle! :) Sure is, and probably modified a bit better since you last visited it!!

BTW, you can use your own local chars now, so if you wanted to create a good pre-made character for EFU, you can!!

All your server vault characters are still intact too, if you wanted to play them.

That's great news. I still have Itzelt and Rat. I tried playing them local last week and all I could see of Rat was a cape walking around. I need to get back to gaming. It should be medically beneficial for me.

Indeed! :)

My dream for NWN -- a NWN1 updated to a better engine... (NOT the NWN2 engine).. The texture limits increased, tileset limits removed... would rock.

But I still LOVE NWN1... so many fond memories playing with you all when it came out. :) So many good memories... ;)
