Has it really been ten years?
I signed up to Ironworks in 2001. We're 2011 already. That's a long time ago.
Lots of things have happened since then. We've all gone a long way. But somehow it doesn't feel like ten years to me. What about you guys? What have you been up to since the day you signed up? Has your life changed much? |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
I've got 10 years older...........................:D
|
Re: Has it really been ten years?
I did that too. :P Getting 30 really soon. It's... scary. I always wanted to have children by the time I reached around 34-35 but I haven't found the right person yet.
I'm getting a degree in Multimedia Technology (programming, scenario, design, 2d/3d animations, computer graphics, movies, sound editing, flash, etc.) and it's pretty great so far. I have a mandatory conference with a writer from Funcom Montreal next Wednesday. I hope it's interesting! Next year I should start posting some 3d stuff here. Maybe Ziroc will be able to give me some tricks to get me ahead of class. :D How about you Mouse? I'm sure you didn't spend all that time just getting older. :P |

Re: Has it really been ten years?
Just looked... I joined in 2001 as well. Time has definitely gone by... kids went from being an idea to being teenagers. Nothing wrong with waiting for them...
I still enjoy playing games, helping people to play them, and figuring out how to beat them. Some things may never change... |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Well, i was a drunkass when i signed up in 2002 and i am still a drunkass today, so nothing much has changed. :D
|
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Nothing much in the way of progress to report here either. I remember giving myself until 25th birthday to get my stuff together. I stretched it out to 30 and still didn't deliver. Habits of more than 10 years still haven't been kicked, but i did recently get a big wakeup call which led to opportunities and incentive for change, so who knows? Maybe i'll only be a few months late on that 30th deadline.

Re: Has it really been ten years?
My kids were rug rats when I joined what was my first ever forum ... Now they are teenagers with thier own forums. And I seem to have gone strangely wider around the waste in that time

Nearly 10 years for me as well - from memory (no longer so reliable :D) I was looking for every drop of BG2/TOB/IWD FAQ goodness I could find... :confusedquestion:

Re: Has it really been ten years?
I feel old.

Re: Has it really been ten years?
Heh, I got married, I got a son, got fired, got a new job. Lost friends - got new friends - got older, have more gray strands in my hair now. I even gave up and joined TaceBook and Twitter.
Got my driving license, bought car, moved to house.. What else, yeah moved from the place where I signed up to four other places - now I am back again in the town where I first signed up ;) |
Re: Has it really been ten years?

Re: Has it really been ten years?
Okay, so I read Luvian's post and not having a clue to when I signed up I just had to find out; it is not one of those things I paid any attention too.
Well I was astonished I will have been here 10 years this coming June 13. Now I am really feeling old. |
Re: Has it really been ten years?

Re: Has it really been ten years?
I signed up in... oh hang on wait... I'll post and check...
EDIT: JAYSIS. 10 years ago also. Christ, a lot has changed. Mainly seeing I wasn't really a person when I first logged in. I mean, who is at 12 :P And this must be my first post in at least 3 years or so... |
Re: Has it really been ten years?

Re: Has it really been ten years?
I joined in 2001 as well...wauw ten years...
I am a LOT rounder on the waist *urrgh* doing swimming and stuff now to get rid off it. Moved from Denmark to France and worked for Blizzard Entertainment as a highpoint - moved back again and joined a new job that I now quit. Lost my grandpa, grandma, mother and aunt to cancer...but got a nephew and a niece in return. As a person I have changed so much...gone from the guy everybody picked on to the guy that will tear your head off if you flap your mouth too much |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Is interesting. I went from the guy who ran around hugging strangers and being friendly to anyone I could, to the guy who drinks scotch, sits in the corner and has a laugh with a few, select friends. My personality has changed ridiculously.

Re: Has it really been ten years?
Damn kids skating on the sidewalks!
Edit: Damn, this whole thread is full of olds! |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Well I joined 4 days after Luvian - and I haven't posted (as Davros) in a very long time. You guys forced me to remember my wierd original password that I never changed. I was stunned that I got it correct (with capitals and lower case all right) on the very first go :).
Let's see - back then I was single, living in Mandurah, working at Alcoa, playing golf and computer games, and had all my teeth. Actually none of that has changed :) - I don't lose the 2 teeth till tomorrow's visit to the dentist. At least they pay me 4 times what they did back then :). I have managed to meet lots of people - went to two Ironworks BBQ's in the French Alps with our wonderful host Moiraine. Ran into Sir Tainly in a pub and shot off his hat which ended up in the pit (or a pit bull). Opened a bottle of Australian Whine with Lanesra. Explained to Mouse all about Goats and Ferrari's. Witnessed Donut's moondancing and his "uncanny dodge". Introduced Wolfie to Vegemite. Survived Epona's snoring (actually Mouse's snoring was worse but I was drunker - just not as pissed as him). Met the beautiful Melusine. Went to a wedding with Aelia Jusa - and a football match - or was it the other way around. Lot's of good times and nostalgia. |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
I wasn't snoring, I was just singing in my sleep :D

Re: Has it really been ten years?
Nice to see so many veterans Ironworkers coming out of the ironworks! :D
It seem that we've all changed but some things never changes. We're all young at heart. ;) I had a rough day today. I stayed up until 5:30 am to fix a bug in my javascript program I had to hand in at 7:00 pm. I ended up missing the class and sending the file by email because I couldn't stay awake. Turns out we had a 15% quiz today. But the teacher is pretty nice. He gave me a chance to do it next Friday. But I had some bad news too. One of my teachers apparently doesn't like me and she gave me 0 out of 20% on a exam because I left after the exam period was over and didn't stick around for the free work period after it. I'm pretty sure she can't do that. I'm 10 years older and I'm still getting in trouble at school. Some things truly never change. :D |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
It's been a little over 10 years for me--I started at the Wizards and Warriors forum in late 2000, during the old Blue Board days. Although I'm not around that much anymore, I still "scan" the boards frequently. Back in 2000 I was a teacher at a career school, kept pet rats, had just recovered from a life-threatening illness, and was living in Denton, Texas with my wife of three years. Today I'm an assistant financial analyst at a major staffing company, am living in Louisiana with my wife of almost fourteen years now, help take care of my mom, and have two cats rather than rats. Oh, and I'm still an avid gamer--just started Dragon Age 2 and am looking forward to The Elder Scrolls:Skyrim; not to mention still multiplaying games with my three dear friends Cloudy, Nachtrafe, and LadyZekke from here at Ironworks.

Re: Has it really been ten years?
SkyrimskyrimskyrimYAY.
But it's odd. I haven't posted here properly in at least 5 of my registered years, and yet I still see the same names about. Ironworks seems to be more of a lifestyle choice than a forum... I used to capitalise every letter (for some reason), now I've learned to type. I can also now spell the word biscuit, and I am no longer sporting the nickname Binky. Life does go on eh? It is odd though, from Davros' post. I don't think I've ever met another Ironworker. Except for Lavindathar, who I knew before either of us were here. But then again, I don't think that too many lived anywhere near me. Brings back some fond memories this board, though. |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
I joined in 2000 when it was still a blueboard before this one came into existence. It really is amazing it has been so long! A lot has changed for me since then. I married, then divorced, and have gone through several jobs. Life is pretty good for me now, although of course I am always looking for greener pastures. :)
As for Ironworkers I have met - Lord of Alcohol, Charlie and Epona (I immediately liked all of them) :) A lot of forums have come and gone, probably because people move on, or maybe have posted about so many topics they are all posted out, and I think places like Facebook and MMORGS (I'd love to see more multiplayer gaming options here, I don't like gaming online with strangers!) have grown ever so popular. But I'm glad Ironworks is still here and even though I don't post as much, I still check it out pretty regularly. I will always be a part of this place and support its longevity. :) |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
I joined in 2001 November (just like it says next to my posts). Probably the main changes I'd point out are that I lived in China for a year and I've begun my BA studies in Philosophy. It's loads of fun.
I've honestly generally kept away from CRPGs since I stopped playing BGII and all the other awesome games from around that time. They just don't make them like they used to. While I don't come to IWF often, I sometimes do stop by to lurk around. It's great to see that the place is still here, same as always. :) |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
It is indeed nice to see the old Ironworkers comming out from the behind the works...and as Beaumanoir wrote - Ironworks IS a lifestyle choice - for some - or else it is just pure nostalgia and the thoughts of nice people that draws me here.
in regards to the comment on missing MMO's - I am waiting for Torchlight 2 to hit the retailers in april - its not MMO but does have Multi and seems to be a clone of diablo2 and dungeon siege... It looks good for me ( played the first one through several times ) so if anyone wants to co-op the pm me for some battling of strange creatures and fun |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Personally I'm looking forward to Diablo 3. I've had so really good time playing that game with the people here in the past. :D

Re: Has it really been ten years?

Re: Has it really been ten years?
This April 5th is also our 10th year Wedding Anniversary!!!
(we've been together since 1994) Which is awesome. I mean, these days, its rare, ya know? BTW all you IW'ers facebook me!! :) http://www.facebook.com/dhuling It's amazing that it's been 11 years (including blueboard).. I mean, I never thought I'd create such a forum that turned into a close friendly place, kinda like a family. Heck, because of Ironworks, people got married. THAT right there is worth it for me! :) I plan on IW's being here in 20 years! Have been having some health issues, but are getting better. I have MANY new things for IW's to come soon. I'm almost done with my tgeweb remake. Its massive... over 200 html pages. Then update/upgrade Ironworks Gaming website, and the Forum. BTW, I sprained my right wrist bad.. this was like 3 weeks ago. The swelling and bruising went down after 3-4 days, but its going on 4 weeks! Normal to still hurt? It begins to hurt when I use the mouse, lift things... I'm a righty so its getting irritating. :) more than painful. If its not better by 6 weeks, I'll get an x ray.. I mean, I probably ripped the tendon... |
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Hmmm... I dislocated my left knee cap almost 2 years ago. Took over a month before I could go without crutches. Still bothers me now and then. Bicycling helps though, so perhaps consult a physician on some therapeutic excercizes? Personally, I never saw a doctor on the issue, just pushed it back in place and hobbled home and put some ice and bandaging on it. (probably not the smartest way to handle it)
|
Re: Has it really been ten years?
Yeah, I would rather not have to go to the doc for it.. I've done it before, but this time its healing slower.. must have been worse this time.. dunno. It IS doing better. Just irritating mostly ;)
