Can it be done? I've spent quite some time now fiddling with ShadowKeeper, but I cant seem to raise Frankenstein's 'monster'. What I mean is, I want a Lich as my second in command. Or B a Lich, whatever. Has anyone ever succesfully turned him/herself into a Lich, or made a Lich that was under their control?

YES, I'm suddenly aware of my obssesssivenessss with Lich. They so *RULE*! I think they're so cool because of their magical nature. just look at their animation, so wicked when they're casting a spell. When I met my first Lich 2-3 years ago, I wanted to turn off my computer, so freaked I was. Does anyone know where to find some good literature on Liches? I cant seem to find any good sites, other then those that promote drawing dragons.

well, i can tell you (from my old paper and dice games) that liches do not advance in levels or experience. they are stuck with what they've learned in life, which is usually enough...

aside from that, i'd like to see a game like this for dragonlance. that's be way too sweet.

would be kinda cool to become a deathknight

TaSSaDaR 10-24-2002 08:42 AM

That would be definitely nice! I loved liches since I have played M&M VIII. A party full of liches was my enemies' nightmare ;)

And, those liches (I know, they do not obey D&D ;) ) did level up even after the conversion.

Bah, anyway, my sorc is more powerful than a pack of liches ;)

The only thing nad about liches is that their avatars have a low movement rate. Will need to play with Shadowkeeper to correct that ;)

Morgeruat 10-24-2002 09:25 AM

with {ctrl}-Q you can add any creature to your party so find all the liches and add them one by one (including Kangaxx) I think you can change your avatar with shadowkeeper, but don't ask me how

If you have ToB, some guys are making a total conversion for BG2 with ToB in the Dragonlance setting :more info

Man, you're sick.

Furthermore, I would like to see the Lich that would stay alive beside an elf...
(Speaking from my....elf....point of view....)

Vedran 10-24-2002 11:03 AM

Ain't I good! ;)
Enjoy!
Note: When I exported/imported lich, he became an ordinary mage. However, it is a bard kit (mage kit cannot be made). Why didn't it became a bard?

Add:
This kit uses different spell sistem, so don't use more than one in your party. Read the documentation for more info.

BAH !!

I'm sooo disappointed in the BGII-Liches. I ctrl-Q'ed the elemental lich. He doesn't have spell triggers or sequencers (Sidenote: how nice is it that Irenicus can cast improved mantle thru a spell sequencer), doesnt have all the contingencies he uses throughout the battle, doesnt get prot from evil while gating a pitfiend. When using the MAGE disabler script, he DOES cast the spell trigger I gave him, but then starts chasing enemies all around the screen to maze them.

When his movement speed is raised to 13-14 he is as fast as my PC with boots of speed and when used as a normal mage, he is quite nice. Can cast three lvl 9 spells. Especially because of his higher alacrity.

One of my MOD ideas is to make the Lich you meet in Chapter 5, Alchra Diagott by name, available to join your party--if you're Evil enough. But now that you say that Liches can't Level Up, I'm having second thoughts. Granted, a non-advancing Lich in the party would be truly bitchin', provided she already knows Level 9 spells (which she does--she casts Imprisonment), but she wouldn't get the cool ToB HLAs. And there are other drawbacks: Liches walk so slow they need Boots of Speed just to keep up, they're immune to Healing spells, you cannot Raise them if they die (you have to wait for them to reincarnate themselves in their phylactery), and what would happen if a Neutral Cleric in the party Turned Undead?
And then there's the spells they cast: You'd expect Liches to be Necromancers, but they cast plenty of Illusion spells, usually Mirror Image and Mislead. But all the Liches in the game cast from the same variety of spells, so do Liches have spell restrictions? If so, what are they?

This set of random thoughts brought to you by Pennzoil.

And what happens when Viconia turns undead?
Valen runs across the screen.

Indemaijinj 10-24-2002 02:53 PM

A lich is a wizard that has undergone an arcane ritual in which he or she kills him-/herself in order to gain eternal unlife. They have the spells they had in life and are not necessarily necromancers, in fact bards can also be liches.

The AD&D monsters manual states that wizards often chose to become liches in order to gain infinite time to master their crafts. This speaks against liches not levelling.

Liches need not necessarily be evil, but their undead condition usually tend to make them wretched over time.

Morgeruat 10-24-2002 03:59 PM

Liches can gain further understanding of magic, in the form of learning new spells, devising spells of their own, and basically gaining a further understanding of the nature of magic, even though they cannot increase their potency with those spells (raise levels) when they've reached a certain understanding of magic and it's universal applicationthey can become demiliches, when the body falls away and becomes nothing more than dust and only the skull remains while the soul is off travelling other planes.

(i think if you add a lich to your party they will be able to level up normally) despite PnP rules to the contrary, and a mage must be at a minimum level 18 to become a lich(unless the ravenloft Requiem rules are being used) so he would have access to level 9 spells.

Zuvio 10-24-2002 04:21 PM

Yeah, the liches do lvl up in the game, they start with 22000 or so EXP, are at lvl 20 or higher and simply require the amount of exp for their next lvl, which you should gather (i.e.: next lvl = 21 -> requires ~5.000.000 EXP)

I ctrl Q'ed liches and made a lich thru vedrans lich-kit (excellent work vedran, if the credit goes to you !!) and I find they add a nice new dimension to my game. The new casting system is also nice. I'll play thru SoA this time with Zuvio The Lich (looks nice in the dialogbox when fighting high lvl monsters)

No, no, no, no, no.
It is not my work, it is just what I found.
I'm sorry if i seemed that I made that kit.

Slizerio 10-26-2002 08:35 AM

I'm no MODmaker. But wouldn't adding a lich in the party suck out the fun of the game? I mean heres my example of a Lich battle:
Dierix casts:Spell:Time stop
Dierix casts:Spell:Symbol Fear
" '" " " " " " " Stun
" " " " " " " " Death
Dieric cast:Spell:Wail of the banshee
Mazzy:Death
Aerie:Death
Viconia: Save vs Spell
Viconia: Death
Minsc:Save vs spell
Minsc save vs spell
Minsc:Stunned
Edwin:Stunned
Edwin: Death
Ballchiled: Save vs spell
Ballchiled:save vs spell
Ballchiled : Save vs spell
Dierix casts:Spell:Finger of Death: Minsc
Minsc: Death
Ballchiled casts:Khelbens wharding whip:Dierix
Dierix:Spell protections removed
Dierix casts:Spell: Flesh to stone: Ball chiled
Ballchiled:Petrified

GAME OVER

As I have just explained lichs, if used properly, they can defeat ANYONE!
Becaus they are supposed to have unlitimed bank of spells.

Alson 10-26-2002 08:47 AM

Any Sorcerer or Mage can do just that and far more, but i don't see anybody claiming that Arcane Magic takes the fun out, right? ;)

They do NOT have unlimited spells, they have 1 spell trigger, chain contingency, spell sequencer, contingency and a load of other spells. The cheese is, that they can load ANY spell into a spell sequencer or trigger, they are not restricted by spell level. Furthermore, they *get* several spells for free, like they get prot from evil when gating in a fiend.

Also, Liches work with a different spell system, as explained in their kit description. My lvl 18 sorc is capable of completely draining a lich of ALL his spells, forcing him to engage me in melee.

Liches CAN defeat anyone, but so can you!

Dundee Slaytern 10-27-2002 09:58 AM

A Mustard Jelly can defeat a Lich... ...

Slizerio 10-28-2002 01:31 AM

It says something about having unlimited spells in the ranger enemy description. I am not sure if thats true...

TaSSaDaR 10-28-2002 07:28 AM

I know this is a dumb question...

Is there a way to install that pretty Lich mod without IEE? I have no means of downloading it... Any suggestions?

Vedran 10-28-2002 02:34 PM

Aye, there probably is. Manual alteration of every single file that newLICH.IAP changes.
"Unzip the zip file to any directory. Import the .IAP file(there is only one) using IEEP infinity addon patcher. This will add any extra options and modifications that are required but keep all the settings for the other kits the same."
I would like to help you, but I am not clever enough. It would take to much time for me to figure how to do it (and I am lazy) ;) .

You have no means of downloading? What do you imply? Too slow connection or something else?

Vedran 10-28-2002 02:49 PM

Hey! I found that program IAPSFX creator that converts IAP files to self-extracting files! I converted newLICH.IAP and could send it to you via Email. Or, you could download the program and convert the file yourself (easy enough). Send me a PM or post here about your decision.
If anybody knows more than me about all this, let him say it now.
