Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Previous Cafe is http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/...d.php?t=101114
Cloudy's Cafe Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie. The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines: this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone * no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner * any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences) -a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately! * Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!) * do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it. Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course! The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Happy New Year, everyone!
Sitting at home, watching it snow, wishing I'd gotten more done on my holiday break... but all in all, it's a good day. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Yes it's a nice day here too. Feels kinda weird still, saying "2010". Have a good one peeps - I'm gonna go get plastered.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Happy New Year!
No snow here, but the trucks are out spraying brine in anticipation. The local news was discussing how they plan to crack down on fake id's in the metro area through the weekend. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Happy New Year all! Hope it's a good one.
Are all the fireworks supposed to go off at midnight? Becuse if they are, our neighbours were quite late :D. |

Happy New Year!!
I celebrated with a Burn Notice tv marathon. Dozed off on the couch about 10:30ish & woke up seconds before the ball dropped in Times Square. If the whole year goes by at this pace, I don't know if I can stand it :laugh3: |

<font color=plum>HAPPY 2010 EVERYONE!!!
A friend invited me to a New Year's Eve party (which would have been only the 2nd time in my life I've been to one), but the boys came back down for their regular visit yesterday so I spent the day (and night) with them instead. :D Today we're just relaxin and playing some games. Little too cold to go out.</font> |

Merryhappynewdayyearween!
Just celebrated by spending 9 hours building a new Lego Technic kit, was awesome, and yes it's childish, but who cares! |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
There's nothing childish about Lego. I mean, look at the massive Star Wars sets. Can you imagine kids trying to build those? The model of Han Solo's ship would be bigger than them!
|
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Child-like and childish- two totally different things! ;)
I'm eager for my little guy to grow old enough for legos so I can play too! :D |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
<font color=plum>Good morning, all. No new posts on the forums yet. Everyone must still be asleep or having a bad case of back-to-work <font color=blue>blues</font></font> :hehe:

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Nothing childish about lego, that guy from Top Gear made a house out of them.

Hello Cloudy and everybody remember me The Crimsom Blade long it's been more than a year or more between posts as I've been working on a Model Railroading project and haven done much Comp gaming. That is until Dragon Age came out but that another section of the forum. How is everybody? "Z" Did you ever finish Under Mountian for down loading? I browsed the New Forum and it looks good and I see post from many new people and a lot of the old Gang are still here.
Well just wanted to say hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR Everybody I try to drop buy more often. Dan TCB |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Wassup Crimson Blade! Model trains sounds like fun. Used to build those lot when I was a kid.
Little bummed out today found out someone at wife's work lost 5 siblings and total of 15 family members in Haiti. :( Very hard to fathom that level of loss. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Hi guys, just sending my little update on life.
I'm in the moddle of exams right now, for uni. My house has mice, we cleared up most the the mould problem, the downstairs bathroom is still leaking to the point of being unusable, we have a floorboard gone in the kitchen, and we can finally get the backdoor open after all thrpwing ourselves on it and then sanding down one edge. I hate student housing. I have two more counselling sessions left, and then I'm on my own. I'm going to talk to my counsellor and then my doctor abotuthe possibility of going on antidepressants for at least a little while, while I learn the ways to help myself. If I'm not constantly getting unhappy then I stand a bit more chance of working through it. A friend has offered to teach me meditation as part of him teaching me tarot (I know a bit of meditation, but am horribly out of practise). I'm also going to have to confront an old "friend" after my exams about things he did to me that I can't forgive or forget - Long story short, the guy physically hurt me very badly. I need to stand up to him, as what is the worst he can do now I've moved away? He can't get me here. Hey Crimson Blade! :) Long time no see. Glad to have you back. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Hey all, long time no post. Been without net access for over a month. Found the library to be invaluable when I don't have home access. Anywho, dropping in to say hi. Finally starting to actively look for work.
Tech question, My mom's laptop is an averatech something or other, not sure about the specs, running XP. Recently developed an issue where I can't select an item on the desktop and press delete to remove it without some kind of error that shuts down explorer.exe forcing me to restart. I don't have the exact message on hand but it was something about failing validation on some kind of .dll file. The problem only started recently. also happens when I try to right-click the C: drive icon to run scan disk. Aside from that it seems to be running fine. Any ideas? I'll probably post again when I copy the exact error message. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Howdy everyone! Yah I hear you Crimson Blade.... Dragon Age got me too! :D Just had pizza... we were too tired to cook when we got home. So glad tomorrow is Friday! My pc at work died.. or started its death throws at least, on Monday and I was without a working computer for a few days, then they got me a refurb from a lab and OMG, the keyboard was so filfthy! :P And it had a major jam up with the print spooler today.... so I was working in safe mode (YUK) until late afternoon when my tech got in and fixed it! YAY!

FSA sounds like a hard drive on the brink of failure or a windows issue that may require a windows reinstall or maybe malware or maybe something else. Not a nice array of options eh? geez am I helpful or wat?

It's a tough one for sure Wellard, but I am happy to report her company raised a good amount of money to help and donated several months of paid time-off for the guy.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Hello all! How was everyones weekend?
Mine was.....well lets face it, i only remember one day this weekend (my weekend started thursday night) because i lost the girl i've been with for two years and she went and banged someone who has been like a brother to me for many years. I had a complete mental breakdown, and my mother took away my pain killers and muscle relaxers i had for my back injury. Think thats extreme? More bad things have happend in the past two years than ever before, and this girl helped me to cope with a lot of problems. We had been through a lot together, and i love her with all my heart and soul, but now i dont think i can bring myself to ever be with her again. How long does it take a broken heart to heal? |

How long does it take to overcome that pain? It depends on the individual and the circumstances. When my ex told me she wasn't willing to work on the marriage, it was like a switch turned off inside me and I had no more feelings for her. She became dead to me. The anger of the betrayal took a few months (we had been married for 13 years), but I am civil towards her, just as I would be any person off the street. When she recently remarried, I didn't care at all about her. My only concern was still getting my share of time with the boys. Once that was worked out, nothing else mattered.</font> |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Thanks Cerek.
I have another problem that just popped up today. I was the passenger in the vehicle, and silly me wasnt wearing a seatbelt. I live in michigan, so i know the law about seatbelts here. This ticket is unreadable however, you can barely see the writing on it at all, and it appears to be absent in some spots altogether. Is there a way that this can get me out of the ticket? I cant afford this right now. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Hey there everybody.
DS, exams suck. Hope you're doing ok, both academically and personally. DA, damn man, I'm afraid that broken hearts never truly heal. It may seem the end of the world at the moment, but it will get better. I have absolutely no idea about the ticket, surely if you can't read it, you shouldn't have to pay??? Hoping everybody else is ok. |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
<font color=plum><font color=white>DA</font> - If the information on the ticket is unreadable, incorrect or completely missing, then it IS possible that might get you out of the ticket.
There are several tips available for beating traffic tickets (just do a Google or Bing search). Most of these relate to speeding tickets, but a lot of the ideas apply to any ticket. 1) First thing I would recommend is arriving at court early. The court will have an attorney present to speak with anyone who disagrees with their ticket. Since the judge wants to waste as little time as possible with traffic tickets (usually), you can often get a reduced offense or get out of the ticket by speaking with the attorney before court starts. Be polite and respectful. Show the ticket to the attorney and point out how unreadable it is, then let him/her tell you what your options are. Other tips I've seen or heard include the following: 2) If your court date is scheduled for a holiday, that can be a reason for dismissal. 3) If the officer who issued the ticket is not in court, that can be an automatic dismissal because you have a right to face your accuser. Most people only think about this in criminal cases. You can increase your odds of the officer not showing up by doing some legwork ahead of time. Find out which station the officer works out, then call that station each day and ask if the officer is on duty today. If they transfer you to him, just hang up. The idea is to find out what day he is NOT working. Then you go to the Clerk of Court's office (IIRC), show them your ticket and explain you can't be in court on the day listed, so is there anyway to change it. When they ask what day works best for you, pick the day of the week the officer is not on duty. They usually have the same day off each week and an officer is NOT going to come to court on his day off for a seat belt ticket. 4) Did the officer actually see you NOT wearing your seat belt while the car was moving? Since you are the passenger, chances are he probably didn't notice until he got to the car. You could always try to say you had unbuckled your belt so you could retrieve the insurance and registration info for your buddy. When that is questioned by the judge or officer, you might give them a brief summary of the physical and emotional problems you've had recently and say you know it didn't make any sense to unbuckle your belt, but you just weren't thinking clearly at the time because of everything that has happened. The car was stopped and unbuckling your seat belt was just a reflex action. Your best bet will probably be to see the attorney before court. He/she has the power to reduce or dismiss tickets outright. I got a ticket several years ago for an expired tag because I hadn't put the new sticker on it yet. I went to the attorney in the courtroom and explained I was in the hospital recovering from surgery when my tag expired. My parents had renewed my tag, but I had forgotten to get the sticker from them when I finally got home from the hospital. He told me to go back to the DOT office and get that tag renewed TODAY, otherwise I would have to pay the ticket. $20 (tag sticker) vs $110 (ticket and court costs) was an easy decision to make. </font> |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
We almost have 2 feet of snow, and it is still coming down! Record breaking weather here in Virginia! Anyone else getting snow?
|
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Michigan has just been really cold, no overly large amounts of snow or anything like that.
|
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Spent several hours working on a powerpoint presentation of photos for a thing we're doing at work today. Never did on before so it was interesting...and frustrating but fun, nonetheless.
LZ, you found your car yet? LOL Well, I know you said a lot of the snow blew away around the car... so have you found the roads yet? :D :D I cannot believe how much snow you guys got down there! We saw about very little.. a dusting or so, from those storms! Hope you've got some warm clothes for going back to the office! Or snowshoes.... teehee! |
Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY 2010!!!!
Ack, Is this really that old? Well.... I'm breaking out the cookies, don't think LadyZ needs a shovel now.. not with the temps in the 80's lately!
Been away from the place a while but checking back in! Hubby is still job hunting, while studying for his computer certification. My work's busy, as usual this time of year and I'm contemplating just how many weekends of weeding I'll need to do before some of my planting areas stop looking like a jungle shot from Dungeon Siege. |
