I have a kensai warrior and as you know he cannot wear armour or bracers....any items that can reduce the THACO?
I have ring of protection +1, and know you can get one from Aran Linvail that is +2. Can you wear them both at the same time? Are there any other items that can help. Im getting slaughtered in one on on combat. If you suggest an items please tell me where to get it from, e.g. which quest and chapter. Thanks everyone. |
Spoilerish...
. . . . . . . . . You are speaking about AC, not THAC0, aren't you? You can not wear 2 rings of protection at the same time. This is the drawback ;) Instead, you may wear the Ring Of Gaax ;) To boost your AC (and saving throws sometimes ;) ) quaff a potion of defence, invulnerability or such. Wear the Cloak of Sewers. Shield amulet may come in handy too ;) Some girdles grant you a great bonus to AC agains a certain type of weapons. My favorite is the one granting a bonus vs. slashing weapons.. Big men wielding swords are no longer a threat ;) Use your Kai to make sure the battle will not last long ;) ADD]Cloak of Sewers is found in the sewers in Temple District, on a rakshasa surrounded bu some kobolds. Not very difficult ;) Shield amulets are spread allthrough the game. I encountered 2-3 of them. They should not be too difficult to find. The girdle I am talking about is the Golden Girdle, aquired in the Planar Sphere (if you do all the quests properly) Also try Boots Of Avoidance (the buried man quest). Finally, if you can find BGI, complete the easter-egg quest for Big Metal Unit ;) That will boost your AC to -10 ;) More than enough! [ 10-23-2002, 09:04 AM: Message edited by: TaSSaDaR ] |

I have no idea what you are talking about Where is the ring of Gaxx? What is it? Thanks. |
HUUUGE SPOILER
. . . . . . . In BGI you can get a "useless" item - Golden Pantaloons (spelling?). In BGII you get silver pantaloons as a ransom for a woman (buried man quest). In ToB you will get Bronze Pantalettes in Abazigal's Lair. There is a dwarf (not Cromwell) in ToB that will make a Big Metal Unit from these two. Search the forum - I remember Dundee posting 3 screenshots with full item description. It is like the Advanced Power Armor in Fallout II ;) Grants AC -10 and other bonuses IIRC. Of course, they will be available to you only by the end of ToB, but they will serve you well in final battles. The Ring of Gaax can be obtained from Kangaax the demi-Lich. Lich body parts quest. Remember 3 tombs across the city? The fights are of hard difficulty, and you will need a +4 or better weapon to harm Kangaax. And you will need a great magic protection to shield from his infinite Imprisonments... But the ring will grant you 2 bonus to AC, 2 bonus to saving throws, and regeneration (at a good rate ;) ) |
Don't you need also Silver Pantaloons for the Big Metal Unit?
Spoiler * * * * * * * * * You can't get them in BG2 (unless cheating), instead you get them from BG1, Upper floor of the Friendly Arm Inn. There is a man how asks you to take them to dry cleaning (or something like that ). Or atleast I think you can get them from there. Correct me if I'm wrong. I know where you can get the BGM, but I don't remember names, so I'm not going to explain . I once cheated so that I could try hte BMU, it was kind of kewl! |
I didn't know you get could get anything higher than a +4 weapon!

best ways to protect your Kensai, ring of Gax(+2AC), ring of earth control(+1 AC), amulet of protection +1 (I don't think there is a +2 amulet), cloak of the sewers(+1AC), boots of avoidance (+5AC vs Missile), girdle of bluntness/golden girdle/girdle of piercing (I believe you can only get the golden girdle if you are a mage) Dak'kon's Zerth Blade (+1 or 2 AC I don't recall which) wielded in off hand, with an assumed 18 dex (-4 AC) you would have (10-4dex-2gax-1earth rin-1amu=ac2-1cloak-1 zerthblade is an AC of 0 which isn't too shabby and I'm sure there are items out there I can't recall that are better and work as well

Im weilding two weapons as a Kensai warrior, which weapons do you suggest.
One has to be the celestrial fury, the other i was thinking of was flail of ages. I have forgotten where to get the celestrial fury! Know where it is? |

and your suggestion for my offhand weapon?

if you don't already have it download the bonus merchants that came with the pre-order and collectors editions and buy Dak'kon's Zerth Blade from Diedre in the adventurers Mart; it is +2 and has an AC bonus, as I stated earlier. also if you dual class to a mage later on as many people tend to do with Kensai the sword will give you some free spells.
also in the ToB forum Dundee mentions the damage resistance from the defender of Easthaven (from Joluv in the copper coronet) it could be a nice bonus (20% physical damage resistance) |
i just started a kensai too and i was wondering a couple a things
Where is the ring of earth control? can someone give me a link to the bonus merchants? |
Oh and i hope you put your constitution to 18, I did and my kensai w/ only like one level up has like 130 hp

the link for the bonus merchants is here look under tweaks and cheats (I don't consider it a cheat since it is official material sent out by Bioware to people who got the special stuff, like me) [ 10-23-2002, 02:10 PM: Message edited by: Morgeruat ] |
Robe of Vecna from the bonus merchant in Adv. Mart sets your AC to 5
|
but it's only usable by mages (multi/dual classed) it would be useful IF you dual classed to a mage

Where are the other ones? Quote:
He's a Kensai, not a Mage, so he won't get it. We all know how Kensai and Mages don't get along, right? :D |

Getting the AC down is not as difficult as it looks. Here are some options: Minor Spoilers: * * * * * * * * * * </font>
Kensai Bonus -2 18 DEX -4 RoP +2 -2 Ring of Gaxx -2 Cloak of Sewers -1 Ioun Stone -1 Shield Amulet -6 ------------------ Total AC = -8 [ 10-23-2002, 04:40 PM: Message edited by: Alson ] |
If you have downloaded the Bonus Merchants, go to the guy in the Copper Coronet and buy (or steal! Teeheehee ;) ) the Defender of Easthaven. It grants Physical Resistance, which is better than AC Bonuses.
Also, it works well when complimented with Hardiness (ToB High Level Ability) |
if your not soloing there are lotsa spells to lower ac. stoneskins proably the best.

Howeveeeeeer... Flail of Ages is a better pick. Flails are the best weapons for Kensais, powergaming-wise. Why, you ask? Shameless Self Promotion. :D Quote:

I remember crawling out of Jon Irenicus' Dungeon with my solo Kensai on Insane Difficulty after more than 1 game year( let us lie here bleeding for one month while I recover from my wounds). The most memorable fight had to be the Duergars with Illynich(sp?). I was left with 1 Hp... Talk about a close fight.
|
That may be a cheesy way to heal, but: if you're evil-aligned, cast the Vampiric Touch on yourself (Bhaalspawn ability). My evil sorc is boosted to nearly 100 hp (from 44 ;) ) in that way... A sure way to heal your char! Larloch's Minor Drains are also useful in that way...
