Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

HELLO IRONWORKS! :D Just taking a minute to get the Cafe set up for a new week. Hope you're all having a good Spring/Autumn (depending on which half of our planet you're hanging from) and are staying happy and healthy so far.

*puts bowls of chocolate chip cookies and tangerines out on the counter, starts up the next batch of muffins and other goodies and wonders if anyone is going to sweep up the front or she has to go find a magic broom, ala Mickey Mouse in the Sorceror's Apprentice*

First!!! :D

sorry, had to.

Anywho, fun day today. Sunburned my cheeks. Saw a car that plowed through a guard rail on the Sawgrass expressway at over 100mph. The posts were sheered off at the base. What was an SUV had become a compact convertable in two pieces. Sadly as you might guess, the driver didn't make it.

Add: forgot the fun part, had some ribs for dinner. Used a dry rub and cooked them for about 3-4 hours at 280F. good stuff.

Mmmmm.... ribs.... My wife cooks 'em wet, mixture of baking and grilling. Tender... delicious... slobber... drool...

Had a good weekend, aside from my lawnmower giving up the ghost. A piece underneath bent and stuck out... right in the middle of cutting the grass! So on Saturday, I made a contribution to economic recovery... ;)

Much nicer machine... has electric start so certain people (me included ;) ) don't always have to yank the cord to get it going.

Ahhh, May. The month with the most birthdays.
Australia is currently very cold (for me at least) with the max temperature today a cool 18.1 degrees. Froze my socks off.

Hope everybody is doing ok.

Hey all. :) Nice to see you all again.

This week is going to suck. I have to get a half 9 or 10 pm train home, walk through a couple of alleys to get back to halls (or else face hoards of drunks at clubs - fortunatly I know the quiet alleys that go round the back of the pubs and past the taxis), and then have a two-day field trip on Wednesday and Thursday, which could make me miss my D&D game for the second week in a row. I also can't do my washing until Thursday night. At about 1am when it is quiet.

Yeah... I don't sleep much. Went to bed at 5am this morning.

And also hand in all of my sedimentology practicals for the semester.

And an update - I have some teatree oil to use on my ear, which should take the swelling down. If it isn't better by this time next week, I'm going to go back to the doctor.

Hey everyone!

Less than a month now until i leave for basic. Im actually getting really nervous. Im not completly pleased with the thought of leaving my family for 9 weeks.

But i know they'll be especially proud when i come back. Little brothers need someone to look up to after all right?

Hi everyone.

I got a phone call yesterday from the uni counselling service, saying they have an appointment for me every Wednesday at half two. I get two appointments before summer, then hopefully they will continue after summer.

Also the tea tree oil on my ear is helping the infection or whatever it was clear up.

On the sad side of things, I can't see my boyfriend this week because he is busy with coursework. But only six days till I can next see him, which isn't too long.

Wolf Rider2 05-13-2009 04:21 AM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-May 3, 2009

Hi all.

DS, glad the ear is clearing up. Hope everybody is well.

Not a good day today. Just thought I'd pour some of it on you because I'm sick of carrying everybody else's problems around.

Three of my friends broke up with their partners today, so I came home with a soaking shoulder. Then I hear about one being cheated on, another friend complains about her *fifth* boyfriend in two weeks, and I accidentally trip somebody over, causing her to graze her knee and rip her stockings. She shouted at me for a whole 30 seconds.

Hopefully your days were all a lot better than mine.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-May 3, 2009

Maybe it's the autumn Aussie weather? Maybe everyone is scrambling to find that cozy someone to spend the winter with?

Funny thing with breaking up. At the time it seems like the end of the world, but eventually, you look back and think, what the heck was I so upset about.

As for the stocking,
Send it to DS. I think that fits her style. ;)

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-May 3, 2009

Mornin' all. Been a while since I've said hello, but I've been around.... lurking in the corners...

DS, glad to hear uni's getting things going for you. Only three more days to go...

Gangrell, happy 22nd... I didn't read about it in the papers, so that was good ;)

Wolf Rider... sometimes, it's hell being the stable one. Or the "good friend". Or what it sometimes is... next in line. Feel free to vent in here... right next to the Endless M&M Jar is a good spot ;)

Ran my first 5k this past weekend. I did the math and figured out that it was actually a little shorter than my normal treadmill distance in the morning, and since I walk that pretty fast (4.8MPH) and high (15 degree incline), faster on relatively level ground shouldn't be too difficult.

It wasn't... managed to run the whole thing, although I got passed by Captain America and the mascot for the local minor-league baseball team ;)

Finished in 30:28, which was in the top half of all runners.

Not bad for basically deciding the Monday before (aka the registration deadline) that I was really going to do it ;)

Not feeling too bad afterwards, although my hamstrings are tight. Have one of them wrapped to make recovery easier... and it was worth it. I got this cool T-shirt... and a pin, too!

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-May 3, 2009

Had my councelling today. And got back home to find my friend incredibly drunk, and getting drunker. At three in the afternoon. Turns out he is, or was, a recovering alcoholic. So now I'm worrying about him.

However, I slept last night, for a change.

Good for you on the running, Bung!

EDIT - Last I heard from him, Mark was still drunk. At least six straight hours of drinking. And didn't know what the time was, or even who I was too well. And now another friend of mine is coming home as drunk as a newt. And this guy has been known to be violent. I think I'm going to lie low from him for a while until his hangover sets in.

See, this is why I quit drinking except for special occasions.

Sorry all, rambling. I tend to when I get nervous and worry. And I am worried about Mark. Not much I can do, I don't have a contact number for him, and he lives several hours away.

Hehe, I don't think it's possible for me to be next in line, if you get my drift... permanently single, always have been, always will be. Endless M&M Jar sounds good, though. Can you become virtually fat on virtual chocolate???

We have a rampant binge-drinking culture here in NZ, and I must admit, I don't understand my friends' desire to get dangerously intoxicated almost every night. I am really not fond of myself when I'm drunk, and it is for that reason that I tend to only drink in moderation, if at all..

Anyway, got four uni papers due in a couple of weeks. On top of that I also have a 20 minute presentation to do on accounting. I couldn't think of anything more enjoyable than talking numbers. Fun. .........

In other news, my left index finger is quite itchy, and has been for several days. It is rather irritating.

EDIT: ..And Variol, if you read this, I typed thank and leaf instead of think and left. Never happened to before. See, it's not just you.

And good on you for being responsible!

Being single isn't a terrible thing. I've had about 2-3 relationships almost start, but didn't work out. One occasion when I was, I think, in my Junior year of highschool. I liked her, she liked me, each of us was waiting for the other to initiate. I was woefully oblivious to all the little hints and nudges she was sending. I didn't really realize about it until some friends pushed me together with some other girl (that didn't last long either), then she told me but said that it was too late now. Really bugged me, for two reasons, 1) how could I not have seen it, 2) If it's too late now, why tell me?.

But bleh, anywho, back to the main point. Being single isn't a terrible thing, but you never know about the posibility of things changing. I've had friends talking to me about how they love the single life, only to wind up in a relationship a week later.

As for the virtual chocolate, I'm not sure, but I know real chocolate can make you really fat. Of course this is in conjunction with multiple other factors.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 05-14-2009 06:55 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-May 3, 2009

I'm actually really glad I had as many relationships as I did. Good, bad, scary; like call the cops on her kind of scary stalker thing.

I think I'm a much better husband because of it.

Wolf Rider2 05-15-2009 03:49 AM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, a conversation zone-May 3, 2009

I am very happily single and don't plan on being in a relationship anytime soon, if at all. I know that they can make you happy, but seriously, for me it would just be another thing I would have to deal with. I think I'll stick to computer games.

And I know about real chocolate. But I am very, very lucky, and don't seem to be able to get fat, no matter how much I eat.

I am in a good mood now because today was much better than the other day, so anybody who feels like venting has a free shoulder on me.

I wouldn't worry about it -- it's virtually impossible... but don't let it happen in real life. Once it starts it's a bitch to reverse.

An old friend of mine and I are like this. We joke that as students, we're powered by black holes that suck in all the food we eat. Unfortunatly, it kicks it out around the time we're 40. Ollie said if that was the case, he woud die of massive organ failure the instant he had his 40th birthday.

My drunk friend who I was worried about showed up unharmed, and is going cold turkey.

However, Steve, who caused me so many problems a little while ago and who I thought I would never hear from again, is trying to get back in touch with me.

I've been looking for work-at-home jobs for a 2nd income. Seems like 99% of them are scams that want your money, but there's a couple that sound legit. Both provide call center support, but instead of having all the operators in a single room, the calls can be routed to you at home. Anybody ever hear of West At Home or Alpine Access? Know of any companies that actually use either one of these for their support? Know someone who actually does this?

This month marks 3 years of working at home for me. I do work for Staples (as most of you know), but at home.

Of the 2 dozen of us in our department working at home, I don't think any of us could handle going back to the call centre.

Dropped in on gamefaqs to look up some hints for Zelda Ocarina of Time (stuck in the forest temple) and they're running one of their Best Game Ever polls.

Todays features are: Mario 64, Castlevania:SotN, Chrono Trigger, and SMW2: Yoshi's Island.

All good games but I'm torn between Castlevania and Chrono Trigger for my vote.

Thoughts, ideas, arguments?

EDIT: short update, Forest temple is no longer an issue, Fire Temple is a frickin labyrinth.

Howdy DS,

do you know what the cause might be ?

Food ? http://www.mayoclinic.com/print/food...2/METHOD=print

Comfort ? Sometimes something like a body pillow (might be called something else in the Olde Dart) can assist.

Sleep Apnoea ? This one can be nasty :(

I must say that I do everything it says not do do on there, and I generally sleep quite well.

I eat a lot. Drink too much. And sleep like a dead man.

However I used to have trouble sleeping for a year or two. I didn't get anything done about it as I thought it was mostly stress related. It did pass soon after I started uni.

I know it can be really exhausting, DS. Hope it gets better for you.
