SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
Let me know what you think in regards to this feature.

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
Hmm - the load time is quite long, so I never really explored it extensively...

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
You know, I just noticed that a couple of hours ago. It's really odd for something that is only text to take so long. I know that it didn't use to take so long...I wonder if it's the new servers, or if it didn't get switched yet and so the response time to the new servers is slow...

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
I might be adding bias to this as I had problems that kept me from going to the SourceForge page. Not only my hit or miss internet access, but when I did have internet it would freeze and then IE would close with a "had a problem" whenever I went to SourceForge. It came on and went away with no rhyme or reason. I can now go to SourceForge without any issues, tho. :D

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
Since you're using IE, I hope you've downloaded all the latest patches to take of that nasty little problem that popped up last month...
For what it's worth, all of my instructors, even the ones who are pro-MS, call it Internet Exploder. :) |
Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
I dunno if you are talking about a different problem, or the issue I had with Internet Explorer, but I decided to give the automatic updates a chance to supply the most recent updates for windows.

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
I'm talking about the exploit that allows the 'black hats' to steal info off of your HD and in some cases turn your system into a zombie in their bot army. :) It was all over the IT news. I'm glad to hear that you've updated.

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
Zombie Computers? sounds like a mod... ;)

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
The FBI thinks that between 1/3 and 1/2 of all computers that can access the internet are zombies. So, if you have processes running when you're not really doing anything, or high CPU usage or port 25 open when you don't use outlook express, you most likely are hosting files or sending spam for a botnet.

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
So, apparently only 3 people have ever gone to the Wiki. I know the poll is still open for a bit, but I think it's pretty safe to say that it has been bumped to the bottom of my things to work on list, if not off of it all-together.

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
Well - slow loading times can kill a website quite easily... If only the wiki was faster (I do like wikis in general)...
|
Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
There was a wiki before the SourceForge wiki, hosted by PBWiki. It loaded fast, but had google text ads, which weren't too bad actually. But, no one ever visited that one either. In that time that I was active with it - which included advertising it - it was only visited by one person other than myself.
I certainly won't take down the SF wiki, but I think it's done. :( |
Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
:( I dunno - Wikis are a funny thing (some people like them, some people don't)... I do like them in general, as long as they load quickly :D
|
Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
I like them as well. I just don't want to put a ton of time into one if no one is interested. :) Besides, if I'm the only one adding information, there are much better formats to use. :D

I wanted to include that other stuff in there about those old game programming books that helped convince him it could be done but somehow that got left out of my article. Maybe you could work it back in there when you edit? BTW: That stuff at the beginning was meant to be on the humorous side. If it doesnt actually come off that way then please by all means edit it however you see fit. I think a tribute/petition article ought to be a collaborative effort on the community's part anyway. I just wanted to get the ball rolling on it. @UATU - As for the likeability factor of Wikis I think that when someone is just wanting to find any info they can on something that is of great interest to them they will be pleased to find anything in any form so long as it provides the info they were seeking. The form in which it is delivered doesnt really matter when someone wants info anyway they can get it. Of course, if you are talking about attempts at advertising DC to new folks to whom DC needs introducing and who do not yet know why they should even be interested in it, well that is of course a different story entirely. I don't think that crowd would even find a wiki, not on sourceforge anyway. They might find a DC article on the regular Wikipedia though if it is linked to many other things like the CRPG category in general and of course Gold Box game articles. |

Re: SourceForge Dungeon Craft Wiki
Add whatever you wanted to the thread on your forums and then PM me when it's up. :)
The bit of the wiki including the date I couldn't remember were directly from the original DC site, so they must be correct. :) |
