I am going to solo a sorceress, which spells should I pick?
What about stats.

(maybe I will pick up Soulafein)

LennonCook 10-15-2002 07:23 AM

Choose spells that you will use. Choose spells that you *do* use. Don`t bother with say, mirror image, if you never use illusions.
As for stats, try to go more for Wisdom/Intelligance than the tank stats (Strength, Dex, Con); high Cha also helps with Item Prices- you will want that Robe of Vecna ASAP

Find dundees sig. Follow the links. Absorb his wisdom.

TaSSaDaR 10-15-2002 07:52 AM

Dundee's sig works very good ;) About stats: roll 18 for both INT and WIS (Wish and lim. Wish spells), roll at most 16 CON (mages do not get bonuses from high CON), and do not bother about CHA(even set it as low as you can - distribute points to other stats) - you wont sell anything untill the end of circus tent, and by then you'll have a veeery good ring (no spoiling) and a Friends scroll. that would be enough, along with the Den Of Seven Vales, to raise enough money to buy that pretty cool ROBE!

daan 10-15-2002 08:07 AM

The sorcerer-class doenst need INT., since he doesnt need to scribe scrolls and it really useless except for some more dialogie-options once or twice in the game. -10- would probably be best, since that way you can still cast from scrolls and such, ( might be 12, but IIRC its 10 ).
Wisdom is extremely important, as its that stat. that'll truly make you powerfull in the end ( lvl. 9 Wish-option to rememorize all spells ).
So i'd say boost DEX. to 18 for AC and sling bonusses. CON to 16, INT. 10, WIS. 18. Make strengt good enough to be able to carry some inventory around; 12-14 should do it. Charisma isnt really that important 'cause of lvl 1 friends and that ring.

Not that hard to roll

Unless you have ToB, dont bother with WIS or INT, they have no effect (very little anyway) on your game. You will miss out on one or two witty comments, some options for the limited wish spell (which aint that good anyway IMHO) and some lore, which you dont need because of the glasses of ID. CON no higher than 16, strength... there is a girdle to increase it to 19 right near the start of the game... but you may want another belt. DEX, max it out (18). CHA, as Tassadar said, these is a ring right near the start, as well as a friends scroll, and if you go to the docks district, you can purchase a nymph cloak (+1 or 2 CHA) That + the ring + friends will give you 25 charisma, you'll be the hottest sorceress on the planet :D

It depends if you're role playing or power gaming. If you're role playing, then forget the whole dexterity, strength, constitution and go for Int/Wisdom (Makes more sense for a Sorc in my opinion). Otherwise, go for the 16 constitution/18 dexterity

I wouldn't completely drop the Con. After good ol' AD&D-rules, the higher Con you have, the bigger chance it is for the spellcaster to finish casting his/her spell whilst beeing attacked. ;)

can a solo sorceress do all the quests and fights? Is it too hard? Any advice would be nice...

Yes.
For tactics, trying using the Search function.

You can, but there`s no real need.
Most likely you`ll hit the SOA XP Cap just out of the underdark when you only do your stronghold quest

TaSSaDaR 10-16-2002 06:30 AM

I did all the side quests (except Mind Flayer lair in the sewers) with my own solo sorceress ;) Not so tough. Just try to gain as much XP as you can, buy the robe, find some cool rings. By the end of stronghold quest I usually become of significant power. And after all trademeet trouble I get lvl8 spells. And after unseeing eye quest I am a god ;)

I still insist on sorc having some decent INT&WIS score. Its just an image of trully powerful spellcaster - he/she must be veery intelligent&wise. That's rp, man!

CON score is nearly useless - if enemy gets to strike you you're dead no matter what is your CON. Spellcasters do not participate in melee crap - they stand back and rain death on the heads of their enemies ;)

DEX is nearly useless for the same purposes. Why should I care to use a sling when I have Melf's Minute Meteors for nearly endless missile weapon? And when you grow a bit, say, older ;) you wont have to use any sling or such - your spells will be your best weapon. The best and the only one ;)

All this discussion makes me want to solo a sorc once again - this time, a CE one ;)

Indemaijinj 10-16-2002 08:17 AM

Con is good for some things though.

Setting off traps for example.

TaSSaDaR 10-16-2002 08:24 AM

Spend a second to cast Mirror Image. Will block every trap, for me it failed just once or twice in the game. And for those special cases you have Spell Immunity ;)

From RP point of view - how could a spellcaster develop a great health? He has to practice every time. And even inborn casters such as sorcs have to practice spellcasting rather thatn doing pushups all the time ;)

All except the Stronghold-quests. Without cheating, that is. ;)

TaSSaDaR 10-16-2002 09:39 AM

OK, lets then mention that a SOLO sorceress can not complete all romances and other NPC-specific quests. ;)

Tyrion 10-17-2002 08:44 AM

So there are cheats to be able to do all stronghold quests?

TaSSaDaR 10-17-2002 08:54 AM

There are some cheats making you able to get every stronghold. But every cheat steals interest from the game. Do you think stupid strongholds are really worth the interest???

SixOfSpades 10-17-2002 05:12 PM

I, for one, am against multiple strongholds. The reason the class strongholds were implemented in the first place was to increase the game's replay value by making sure you couldn't do every quest in the game in just one run-through. Why would you want to take that away? I say, if you want to know about the Druid stronghold quests, build thyself a Druid.
