Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Previous Cafe is here
Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Hey all! Hope we have enough candy for tomorrow! The weather is going to be reasonable nice and it's a Friday, so I expect we'll see lots of trick or treaters!

Anybody going to dress up their pets, maybe like this?

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Trick or treat has really taken off down here in the last few years - would not let my kids do it though - there is usually a little party or something going on where they can dress up and mess around more safely.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We don't do Halloween much in our neighborhood. Got a bag of candy to hand out last year, and had all of one child show up.

But our church does a Trunk or Treat event. We've been doing it for like 6-7 years now and always get a good turnout. People bring their cars to the church parkinglot, decorate them, and the kids have a safe place to dress up and collect candy.

Only concern for me is scattered showers are forecast all day tomorrow. Hopefully it can hold off between 5pm and 8pm.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween, all! It's a double celebration here... my son's birthday is also tomorrow, so I'm flying home as quickly as I can to celebrate. No dressing up the dog, but the kids will be dressed. And I might just sneak something on as well... or not :heee:

We'll have trick or treating around the neighborhood, then some local friends over for cake and ice cream. Then off Saturday to Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor water park / hotel, for my son's birthday. He wanted that instead of a party... I think it's cheaper... :D

We usually get 5 kids, or less on the court. There are 2 boys here now, and I'm pretty sure they'll be around. I got some 3 year old tootsie pops for them...

Mr Life-of-the-party strikes again... :D

Just remember... they can find eggs, and people who know how to use them...

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Nobody knows the difference between new & 3 years tootsie pops. How long do you think they're sitting around before they get on the shelf...?

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Whaddaya think they are... twinkies? :D

*Walks into the café like a zombie*

Ungh, I was at this party yesterday. Had a wee bit too much to drink, and my stomach have protested that the whole morning.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Well, it rained last night. Despite that, we had an awesome turn out for the "Trunk'or'Treat" event. Parking lot was packed. Sadly, the people who brought their cars to be decorated didn't go quite as all-out as they have in the past, though, there was a really nice Nightmare Before Christmas set-up at one of them.

The kids had a good time. I was running all over the place and lugging traffic cones around, so now I'm sore.

And I only had one person get uppity with me over the parking situation.
[rant]
Some complaint about how they pay $600 a month for their kid to go to school there and they can't get the parking spot they want. Funny thing, she had no clue who the Senior Pastor was, and the $600 pays for the school, not a seat on the board of directors, or preferred parking. Our pastors don't even get preferred parking. And if she wants to complain about spending $600/month to send her kid to a private school, here in Fl., I don't know of any that are cheaper, so she could always send them to public school.
I'd hate to be the guy who has to wait on her table in a restraunt.
[/rant]

But all complaints aside, it was a great evening.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Despite the mild temperatures and the fact that it was Friday, we didn't get all that many trick-or-treaters last night. Usually they keep rolling in up until around 9:00pm, but I didn't see anyone after 8:00pm. I also noticed that my Halloween fanatic neighbor kept her lights out and didn't do anything, which is strange. I'll have to ask her why (cause I vaguely remember her saying something about somebody stealing one of her Halloween lawn decorations once)...Anyway, wasn't the same without her across the street with her dry ice going, scary music, and she even hides behind the bushes sometimes and jumps out at the kiddies LOL. :hehe:

And boy do I have a TON of candy left - 10 bags!:lamb:

We just left the lights out. We usually only get 3-4 kids anyway...

Evening all.
Just got back from visiting my boyfriend and sister. Oh and getting some more holes punched in my ears.
Good times.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I actually spent my Halloween with my girlfriend watching scary movies and munching on popcorn.

My little brothers went trick-or-treating, one was Darth Vader, one was Thing from F4, and the littlest one was a duck. he was very adorable.

So! Exciting news! Almost broke my nose in Building Trades today. I got hit in the face with a 2x4. Nothing series, just contusions and probably a black eye tomorrow.
Just wanted to update everyone on my exciting life!

*pulls up a barstool and asks about the endless M&M jar*

Bungleau 11-04-2008 09:01 PM

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

*puts arm protectively around the jar*

It's only available for temporary loan, not for permanent annexation... have some :D

Bummer about the 2x4... someone forget to tell you to duck, or someone else just not paying attention? Milk it for all you can with the ladies... prey on their sympathies and such :hehe:

Finishing my time up in West Virginia tomorrow, then on to home for a day or so...

Evening all. Mind if I have a handful of M&Ms Bung?

Just got back from a computing lesson, where my friends and I already knew the work. So we got into the IM program and chatted with each other about dinosaurs and Jack's incoreect spelling of certain parts of the anatomy.
Plus I now have a geological hammer. http://www.norgeo.co.uk/acatalog/hammer1.jpg It's pretty heavy. As it wouldn't fit in my bag, I had to walk for ten minutes down a street then into my building brandishing it. Past several police cars...

Well, it is mighty tempting... Pity I'm hardly the most menacing person around at about five foot tall. I'm hoping the peircings will go some way to fixing that :P

What am I doing officer? Why, nothing... nothing at all. No, those aren't bloodstains on my hammer... why, they're... berry stains, of course.

Would you like to examine it.... *CLOSER*?

Say... interested in a part-time gig guarding the Endless M&M Jar? :heee:

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Do I get paid for it? I accept cash, cheque and M&Ms.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Typical Uni student... first question is how much she gets paid.

You'll get paid twice what I get paid 'round these parts... :D :twocents:

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Hey, I need to pay my rent and food bills (which are about £10 per week, with an occasional one of £20, so that isn't too bad I guess).
But mainly alcohol bills, I'll admit. Currently, I have a tab with one of my friends - He buys me alcohol, I pay him back next year in food.

Re: Cloudy's Cafe, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Hey all! Have been swamped with applications for a position we're hiring for and I'm the processor of papers around here so no time for online for some time now... Can anyone see my desk? I had one once.... LOL

LadyZekke, I expected way more kids than we got, too! Still got about 50+ but the weather was so nice, we thought there'd be a lot more, especially on a Friday night!

Oh man, if you have that much candy left, I want to visit your house! You get the GOOD stuff! LOL, all we had left mostly was tootsie pops and jawbreakers and a few reeses cups - the kind with caramel. They're ok, but nothing fabulous imo. :)

Hope the birthday went well, B. My hubby didn't dress up, but the kids all looked in awe... mainly as he is 6'3 and our front entry is about 8-10 inches up so he looks very intimidating to little ones at the door! :D

Got a cold going... blech, a few people coming into my office seemed to feel it was ok to come in, cough (with accompanying spit) and sneeze near/on my work area.... *sniffle, snuffle* ugh...

Yes, but she also brings the Cafe...

No Cloudy, no cafe, yes?

And she provides us with unlimited M&Ms, I think a little cloudy weather is worth it.

Had it been a boy, they were going to name him Donovan Jude. I would have nicknamed him Donny, and taught him to sing Disney songs.

Anywho, Here's Cailyn:
