Is it a good idea to go back down into the crypt to kill rumphy again and again to get more exp points to make my charecters powerfuler?

What are the best spells?

What are the best wepons and armors in all the towns?

What are the best roles besides the Zenmaster, Assasin, and Vykalriye?

Is it a good thing to get a vampire in your group and if so who in the group should get bitten?

Is it a good thing to have LOT of gold?

What are the fastest and strongest races and wich ones are best for my group?

Eney tips for beginners like myself?

Wyvern 05-25-2002 11:16 AM

Welcome to the board, Tavis!!!

Check out the BEST TIPS thread for a lot of useful information.

As to what characters/races etc. you should create - create what you like!! All races are pretty neat to play for one reason or another.

You will be able to change class as you progress through the game so don't fret about which class. The only thing you should be cautious about is changing a magic user from one class to another before they have learned higher level spells. It's always best to let them learn all the best spells all the way to level 7 before switching them to another class.

ZenMaster and Valkyrie are only available at the very end of the game :( BUT since you can reset the adventures and play the game from the beginning with you current characters, those classes are fun for a second pass through the game!

Gold is very useful especially for training. There are good tips on how to make gold in the BEST TIPS thread!

Not all the spells are really worth while. The Blood to Gold spell is the worst so don't bother with it at all. Personally, I like to choose good offensive spells and good healing spells. Illumination helps a lot for exploring when it is night time. Cure Poison is really helpful when you do the Serpent Temple. Create Portal, Teleport and Call of Home are especially useful when you finally reach the Lost Sea area.

Don't fret to much about how to create your party and which weapons and things to get. PLAY!!!

When you have trouble, come on back and we'll lend you a hand!

Hi Tavis!

Pay for the training and the training will be complete when that character makes their next level up.

That help?

Tavis 05-25-2002 11:44 AM

Oh yeah now i also 2 other questions and the answer to why i asked you about the strongest and fastest races.

About the races, i asked about the races because i read something in the tips area of the wb site for wizards and warriors about buying armor and stuff and how if you had the strongest races in your group and bought the best armor and wepons in the beggining of the game your partey would kike butt for a super long time without having to buy other new wepons and stuff.

the two questions are How do i use that booger guys lamp and how do i make the wishes is theyr a spicific way i have to phrase them and are theyr limits to the wishes like "I wish the whole group where all Zenmasters." or somnething like that.

I must admit that you have me a bit confused as to where you are in the game. You're asking questions about how to set up a good party and at the same time asking questions about the magic lamp.

Well, whatever - the lamp is a multiple choice thing. You choose from the 3 options offered. You don't type in anything. You can't wish to be a ZenMaster, you have to earn that! :D

There are ways to use the lamp over and over again but there are limits. You'll probably find that it sounds a lot neater than it is. You will get some nice items but most good things are found randomly in chests as you explore anyways.

It is just that simple. One thing I would like to add though; http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon31.gif

When you level up, Don't spend skill points on any skill you can train in. The guild's always train you to the next 'full' level and they do round down not up. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon13.gif

example; If you spend 1 skill point to increase axe 2 to 2 & 50%, then when you go to train up, it will only be to 3, not to 3 & 50%.

Tavis 05-25-2002 12:06 PM

I played up to the booger dude and got the lamp but then i came hear found that i could get three wishes and tride to use the lamp bye right clicking on it in my invetory just outside of ishad na and it dosent have an invoke button. but as to why im asking questions about the game for the beggining is because i rstarted the game cus i was lost in the mines and descided to give it a new shot and start all over again but wile i was in the mines my charecters kicked butt easily because i went down into the crypt again and again with my magik users and killed rumphyus ghost again and again just to get the magik up to level seven. Yeah it took a while but it was worth it!

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon2.gif To use the Lamp, Click on the USE/GIVE icon. (the flask & scoll) Then you get a blue targeting cursor and click on a character.

If you go to 'Valeia' and follow the steps in the 'Best Tips' thread, you'll get more wishes then you'll know what to do with.

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon31.gif ...The reason for going back to 'Valeia' is that you have an unlimited supply of 'mules'.

One other thing I would like to add; Next time you go to the 'Stout Mines',...take a good map.lol!!! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon27.gif

..Sorry, I couldn't pass that one up.
IMHO, try here first http://www.volberding.com/WHints/

Unlikely that Activision will do anything to support this game, they really don't care much about it. There is a strategy guide for this game but it isn't called the "tome of misinformation" for nothing. I have a copy and will sometimes refer to it but rarely. Xignal was much more accurate in his walkthru. ;)

Xignal, on the other hand, did a wonderful job putting together a walkthru with lots of pictures and maps. Packrat already posted the link! :D

To respond specifically to the question about how training works...

When you train at a guild, you immediately get the benefit of training. For example, if you train in Stonecraft level 6, you immediately have access to level 6 Stone spells. You can't do any more training at that guild, however, until you advance another level.

So saying that your training is "complete" when you advance to your next level is, IMHO, almost correct. It completes at that point, but you get the benefits beforehand.

And as for the Stout Mines, I made liberal use of the automap flags to let me know where I needed to go. Used the same technique in a certain shrine you'll come to later.

Aiax 05-26-2002 06:50 AM

I have question about certain skills. Does it make sense to raise skills such as Prowess, Gallantry, Leadership, Athletics? Aren't they useful only on higher levels (10 or so)? And second - what do I need to "hide in shadows"? Manual says that there is a function icon, that should bring a list of available special skills, but there is only "Dragon breath" and it doesn't seem to do anything. Thx for answer guys.

Aiax 05-26-2002 06:52 AM

And in what way is the Leadership useful anyway? According to manual it should "motivate" other characters, but how? Does it make them strike more often or what? I'm asking because in some faqs that issue is also unclear.

WillowIX 05-26-2002 10:44 AM

Well, let´s see... Raise prowess and gallantry all the way up since they (in order) increases attack speed using weapons and improves the chance of making a succesful attack and the damage of the attack. To get the ability to hide in shadows with that button you´ll have to get the cloak of night trait. As for leadership, does it do anything? I haven´t noticed and never use it.

Wyvern 05-26-2002 11:41 AM

LEADERSHIP - according to the Tome of Misinformation:

This reduces the ability of monsters to make successful strikes on the character and reduces damage by hand weapons to the character, however, the character is targeted more often.

SO - if you want your fighter to be targeted more often than your wizard this could be useful. I don't think you ever really notice in the game what it is doing unless you are extremely observant.

WillowIX 05-26-2002 12:59 PM

Aaaah, something like the vinespell lure then. Wow, they do have a lot in common, none of them works, lol....

Tavis 05-26-2002 08:52 PM

So...what are the three wishes the gienie will grant you in other words what are the options?

Tavis -

Please limit the use of a graphic signature to ONCE per thread. It helps keep our board fast loading and once in a thread is really enough!

Thanks, Wyv

P.S. I went ahead an removed the repeated graphic signatures. They are neat, but once in a thread is enough.

Aiax 05-27-2002 04:45 PM

Questions and questions again:
- I've just laid my hands on Mavin and set out for Brimloch. But when I want to get back to Ishad N'ha do I really have to plod all the way through Dragon Spire, or is there any shorter way?
- What's with that special clothings (ninja, samurai, assassin)? AC ratings of ninja and assassin clothing are very low and when they both can wear plate and chain mails (and it doesn't seem to hinder them in no respect) is it any use? Does it grant any special bonus (like, you know, when you equip your assassin with all that special togs, it gives you something extra) or it just looks neat and that's it?
Thanks in advance

Packrat 05-27-2002 05:08 PM

As you walk down the slope leaving the cave of Dragon Spire, you come to some tree tops. If you look down, That is still Ishad N'ha. (you can probably still see Torin standing there)... so to get back to Ishad N'ha you just jump off the ledge on that side of the trees... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon31.gif ...However, unless one of your party has 'create portal' and 'teleport', you will have to plod all the way through to get back to Brimloch...

As far as the clothing goes, I'm the not one to ask. I always try to wear plate or chain. I have worn special garb at times but only in a pinch, when I had no choice....and besides...If it's working for you.. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon14.gif ...why change.

Wyvern 05-27-2002 05:19 PM

The fast way to get back to Ishad N'ha is to jump off the cliff edge back to the Shire - BUT going back to Brimloch Roon will be require going through the Spire UNLESS you have CREATE PORTAL and TELEPORT.

If you haven't learned those spells yet, do so. They become increasingly useful after Brimloch!
